I'm sure it's been said in the comments but for anyone who uses to new formula of Rit, use denatured alcohol instead of Acetone and it will not turn blue. Followed the exact same process myself but substituting the Acetone and got the same end result. 😁
Thanks, I watched a few other guys on youtube do similar but I pretty much followed the same method as nsz85. His came out really nice. I just put the final coat of poly on it tonight so should have a finished product vid tomorrow sometime.
Thanks for the how to..been using your technique on several AK builds...turns out AMAZING.. I found out if you think the clear coat is to shiny at the end hit it with steel wool..then lemon pledge 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
They change the formula of RIT dye in 2010 it turns blue and acetone. Also want to get it done within 12 to 16 hours or else it darkens. You can get anywhere from I’ll die in orange to Russian read this way
Can you tell me the exact color red you used? Also are both packages the exact same color? One looked slightly different. Thanks for the video, by the way. This looks great.
Inna Minch Got it all figured out bro. Once I ordered the old formula from Rit Dye it worked perfectly. The new formula in the small box at a local store will not work anymore.
It's like watching a Bob Ross video, I'm like it looks perfect stop there,,,,,,, oh that looks even better now. Lol thanks for doing this I'm getting ready to do my Maddi. I think I'm going to to do the epoxy paint for the metal parts anyone have any thoughts?
A long time....I think the dye actually gets darker and more profound the longer it sits in the jar..I mixed a batch and used it for a span of 10+ months..

Can you still add the polyurethane to the rit dye and denatured alcohol?
Wow, looks great! This is exactly what I want to do to mine, thanks for the upload

looks great!!, I'm following your steps, hope mine comes close to how good yours turned out.
Very nice so far...great job. I like the color.
I would have thought the acetone would eat the sponge
Beautiful stock set man. I'm trying to do the same thing to my M92 handguards but the results are not coming out like yours...

That looks great. Gonna do that for my RI 1911 grips. Where did u learn this?
Nice.
They’ve changed the formula on the powder; it’s purple now.
Mine came out purple as well I added a little more acetone and more poly and it turned red.
My Acetone and Scarlet/Rojo dye came out purple.....?
What size can of polyurethan are you using ?
Why steel wool between aplying final coats ?
How long will the rit dye in poly stay good for?? I just made a batch & Im waiting on extra furniture sets to do

I did the RIT dye and it almost looks blue. I got two of the scarlette color just like you but it almost looks blue. Is that what yours looked like?
Charlie Mullen you need the old formula! Changed in 2010 new formula turns blue no good!
Where do I find the rig dye at????
Michaels,hobby lobby. Most craft stores
Why do you have to add Acetone to the dye?
..... because it's powder
This dude sounds like Leonardo DiCaprio
He does :O
