hello i have one question.....this model dcd 996 18V XRP is the same to dcd996 20V XP??? have the same spec...or at least thats what i found on internet...i cant find the diferent.........i also see a dcd 996 20V XRP.......:/ i lost
The batteries read 20volts straight off the charger and for the more gullible buyer, 20 is higher than 18 so must be better. It's the same battery and since it does read 20v for a very short time, they can get away with selling it as a 20v battery
20V is U.S. 18V is rest of the world. That's because in the U.S. 20V is trademarkable but the rest of the world, says that its misleading and use the actual voltage rating. 20V is hte batteries peak voltage from fresh charge. 18V is the batteries nominal rating.
The n on the end means it doesn't come with batteries or a charger or a case. It is a bare tool, with handle attachement, magnetic bit holder and belt clip. The T on the end means drill, box but no batteries. M1 means small single battery, M2 2 small single batteries. P1 1 large battery, p2 2 large batteries. Don't bother with flexvolt batteries. All ones that include batteries, include a charger.
It could have been the perfect tool, but then they decided to use a electronic clutch instead of a trustworthy mechanical one. It made the tool unusable for driving screws around the house e.g. door hinges as the electronic clutch does not clutch out in speed 1 at all, and only cuts out the engine after the damage to the screw was done. Had to return mine today - very disappointed with the product.
That's disappointing to hear Dwaine, Dewalt is usually up to the job. Check out our page on Dewalt Warranty here (www.toolstop.co.uk/dewalt-warranty/) and hopefully you can get your issue resolved. Thanks for watching!

they are the same, they just lie to americans saying it is up to 20v when it actually just uses 18v.

What is the difference between the dcd996 and dcd996n?

When will you guys be getting this back in stock and is there any chance of stocking the pack with the flexvolt battery?
You can find it here - www.toolstop.co.uk/dewalt-dcd996x1-18v-cordless-xr-3-speed-brushless-combi-drill-1-x-flexvolt-9-0ah-battery-p78857
Can i buy it as a bare unit? If so, what sorta price range?
We don't have it body-only yet, but keep your eye on our site.
Just split the kits surely?
In new Zealand it costs 430 dollars for bare tool, I got it in a kit with the 887 driver, the 406(or5) grinder and a flexvolt battery for 550

Is the chuck better than the dcd796?
The dcd796 chuck is garbage
