- Опубликовано: 9 июл 2024
- In this Rescue Vet episode, Dr Scott Miller meets rescue dog Amber, a stray malinois x who has one of the most extreme leg abnormalities that he has ever seen. Back at North Clywd Animal Rescue Dr Scott examines Amber's poorly leg and starts fundraising with NCAR to raise the money desperately needed for her specialist surgery.
PART TWO of Amber's story coming next week...
If you would like to support the amazing work that North Clwyd Animal Rescue do, find out how on their website - ncar.org.uk
And to donate to Amber, you can follow this link - ncar.org.uk/do...
Or to help other rescue animals in your area, contact your local animal rescue, and ask how you can do your bit to protect and care for our rescue animals. We understand times are tough for everybody, and there are a lot of ways to support animal rescue that aren't donating money. From sending in old towels, to donating clothes to a charity shop, hosting a fundraiser, sharing their good work online, or volunteering at local shelters, I have seen first hand how all this is so greatly appreciated.

The second part of Amber's story is out next week, so make sure you're subscribed to be the first to watch and find out what happens to beautiful Amber ❤
Also check out the links in the description if you would like to support the work of North Clwyd Animal Rescue Centre, or contact your local rescue centre and ask how you can do your bit to help dogs like Amber 👨⚕
Will the "thanks-donations" under this video also go towards Amber's surgery? If yes, please let me know. 😊
So good to see she found a new home already.
All donations to Amber will be passed onto NCAR, and you can find her specific donation page on their website here too - ncar.org.uk/donations/ambers-appeal-2/ ❤
I'm in Australia, could I donate? Thank you and good luck Dr Scott and Amber!
@@rescuevet Thank you Dr. Scott! 😃👍👍🐕
I wish I were a millionaire. There would never be a lack of funds to help the Ambers' of this world
You wouldn’t be a millionaire for long ❤️❤️❤️
@@annieconway8998 that would b ok too!
@@annieconway8998 oh but such a good reason to go broke!
Prof Noel Fitzpatrick has saved many dogs over the years with groundbreaking surgery. He has a very soft heart with dogs like Amber. Wouldn't it just be fantastic if my two favourite vets, you Scott, and Noel could find a solution for precious little Amber.❤️
Or even his mate Mike who is an orthopaedic vet.?
That trio would be amazing ❤

@@janethompson6724Mike used to work at Fitzpatrick's Referrals.
Dr Scott, I've followed you for years. You have been a blessing to so many.
Hoping this will help Amber! Thanks!
So, does this mean that you've put out an "Amber" alert to help pay for this cute baby's surgery, LoL!!
That baby girl has the best smile. I hope the folks that want to adopt her are the very, very best of people. She deserves to always have a smile on her sweet face.
These people, each and every one of them restore my faith in humanity.....I wish the best for this poor dog who has clearly been suffering for quite a while but still has a wonderful personality....
Why hasn't there been a go fund me for Amber so all of us can help?
There actually is a fundraiser on the shelter 's website. Maybe it is too much for a shelter to admin two or 3 income sources. And it is also a question of transparency: imagine, you set a total goal of 8000 as they did here. Now, either you part it in 2x 3000 + 1 x 1500 On different fundraising platforms. If people think there is only 1500 or 3000 to fund, and the goal of the 1500 has been reached easily, they stop donating and sharing. And so, you won't get all, but only part the necessary money, which means amputation.
But you can't put the total goal of 8000 pounds on all 3 platforms, because people would start asking questions about where 3x 8000 so total 24000 bugs go, if there are only 1x 8000 needed.
Plus, maybe they wanted to increase local awareness for their charity/shelter and therefore ran the donations via their own website. You have to imagine, as sad as it sounds, there is concurrence between the shelters. All of them are filled and crammed till under the roof, and all of them want the best potential new owners for rehomeing their pets so there is space to rescue the sadly never-ending stream of new dumped pets....
So yes, they need to create awareness and this must have been a reason, why Dr. Scott is the new Patron of this charity.
@irisgallati this makes sense. As an Alaskan, I appreciate Dr. Scott's recommendation to support our local shelters & rescues if donating to Amber's cause isn't possible. Vet costs are astronomical here in the states as well, so I am supporting locally more substantially with a small donation to these special cases when I can. $5 or $10 isn't much on it's own, but if everyone gives a little, it adds up fast.
@@elsiestormont1366 yes, you are right! A little from everyone adds up to a lot and goes a long way.
Literally brings little happy tears to my eyes what you are doing for the Alaskan pets in need.😇😘 Thank you a lot!
I asked Dr. Scott in his pinned comment above, whether the money of the "thanks-donations" under this video go towards Amber's surgery aswell. Let's hope he will see it and find time to answer.
Sending you all the best wishes over to Alaska from Switzerland!😊

GoFundMe charges a fee to receive your funds, or at least they did when I tried it a few years back. Even a small percentage is a big chunk of this kind of expense.
I'm extremely fortunate to be able to afford the medical care my dog has needed, and he doesn't even have a chronic condition requiring ongoing care. I couldn't imagine having to deny care to my pet.
Amber is lovely and it’s been good to see the first part of her story and just shows how caring and compassionate the staff at the rescue centre are in that they want to give Amber the best possible chance of being a normal dog with four healthy legs even though that’ll take a lot of work and money rather than just going straight for perhaps the easier / cheaper option of amputation. The animals welfare is at the forefront of things. The couple that have adopted Amber despite her disability and the issues treating this will have are fabulous people 👏🏻❤ Really looking forward to seeing part two of Ambers story and her hopefully getting her surgery and living the great life she deserves 🐶❤
Couldn't AGREE with you more!!💯👆🐾🐕💞🇺🇸😘
This beauty is surrounded by angels !!! She will be healed !!!
Wishing Amber the best! What a beautiful name for a terrific girl
Poor little mite. Really hope she can be helped. So young and happy. Good luck.
She's so cute. Little baby.
Hi Scott 🤗!
Just tried to donate to NCRA to help pay for Amber’s surgery, but no chance from Germany 😒!
I was just not given the chance to change from United Kingdom to another country, what an utter pity!
Best of luck and love to Amber!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe send a check?
I love Dr.Scott but many pet owners are finding about the huge cost of taking care of our pet family. In January2023 I took my cat to my vet. She had developed a mamarry "bump." The decision was to remove the bump, hysterectomy, total removal of mammary glands. This cost me about $4000 US dollars. One year later I had to go back because the mammary bump had returned. Upon examination, the cancer had metasized to the lungs. Within a week my gorgeous cat passed away. THE HIGH COST OF VETERINARY CARE HAS BECOJE A EMERGENCY UNTO ITSELF. I have 4 cats left. I will take care of them to the best of my ability but after that I will stop. The veterinary prices are just crazy and we can longer have pets.
I agree, we used to have pet insurance but it was very expensive, now we self insure by putting an amount in a bank account only for pet medical, we also put the money from bottle recycling into that account, it helps. A lot of vet drugs are the same as human ask for a script and fill att human pharmacy or vet pharmacy online often a lot cheaper than getting it from vet, they charge for the script.Remember they are not helped by government like human doctors and have a lot of overheads, cost of living hitting everyone.
That's why I support Flatbush cats the founder has set up a low cost clinic for people that struggle to pay such high veterinary fees. Check them out for more info about what they've achieved so far with abandoned cats in their part of New York, it's inspiring!
I'm in the U.S. and it's like that in every country. There's also a shortage of Veterinarians so that further complicates things. Since COVID the cost of items have gone up including veterinary supplies. Items have started to come down in cost but it hasn't been passed on to consumers, very large businesses are just taking in more profits for the President, CEO, CFO etc. instead of coming off the prices. It's hard for everyone and so unfair to the least of these...dogs and cats.
Fundraising...... Good idea! Animal lovers should donate and....also the team of specialist, vet, medicines, treatments, surgery and so onnnnn....!
I can clearly see how Ambers situation affects you, and what a lovely happy girl she is, so strong and resilient despite her wonky leg. Interesting to learn about the medical aspect and the work put inn trying to help her. So ready to see the next part of her journey, a bit worried, but hoping for the best 🤞💓🐶💓
Thanks!
You were able to fix poor Jimmy, so I have no doubt that Amber's going to be just fine, eventually.
Also, I've watched enough Vet on the Hill/Bondi to expect a call to Michael. Lol.
Aw what a cutie she is 🐶 looking forward to next week’s episode now, hope she’s going to be okay ❤
Wish Amber all the best! Hopefully, with all the Donations, the RUclips-Thanks and the new owners, we will get together all the necessary money for corrective surgery.
Maybe the Bondi Vet community could help sharing this aswell?
Thanks for looking after Amber!
Thanks for helping Amber! Just saw part 2 and it turned out amazing! All the happiness in dog and owner: normally I am a cat person, but this is priceless!
Really interesting video to see the start of beautiful Ambers story. She’s got so much energy and enthusiasm for life it’s sad she’s limited by her leg and in pain 😢. It’s really hard if people have to give up an animal just because of money and I guess this is why pet insurance is so important to cover things like this, but insurance is not cheap and it’s understandable that some people can’t afford it and just hope nothing serious happens to their pet. Absolutely lovely that the new owners were willing to take Amber on knowing the long and tough road they are going to face with her treatment 👏🏻. They and all the staff at NCAR looking after Amber and all the other animals in their care are wonderful people 👏🏻❤️. Looking forward to seeing part two and Ambers progress on her journey and hopefully a healthy, happy and pain free new life she deserves 🐶❤️
Very well put.❤❤❤❤

I've got a special interest in Amber because my rescue cat is also called Amber!
The German shepherd is so cute. Beautiful face . Hope he doesn’t need amputation.
Thanks
Wishing that Amber gets the necessary operation
ThanksvScott for helping Ambers team❤

Amber is gorgeous. A bundle of energy ❤❤
Donated for our rescued pets, Oreo from Greece and JoJo from near us in the USA. Thank for helping Amber Dr Scott!
When it comes to fund raising check out Rocky Kanaka sitting with dogs. Dr Scott take a few notes could be very helpful in future for the rescues. Thanks for this video.
As a Kiwi, I'm obviously too far away to do much, but oh how I wish I could give her a forever home. Keep up the good work, Scott.
What a wonderful new channel !Dr Scott loves this type of practice. PĹEASE keep this going 🐶🐶🐕
SHARED on my twitter for help for Amber or the shelter!
What a cutie! Hope she gets fixed up soon. A 3 legged dog isn’t the end of the world and her charm makes up for it. I’d adopt a 3 legged dog is she wasn’t a gazillion miles away. I don’t think you have enough viewers to raise big money. Diverting some of your time and energy into fund raising is a big decision. Takes enormous time. You need to think carefully and get some good professional advice.
How about getting practices to ask their clients to round up fir Amber. 🙏❤️
Dogs do really well with amputation. I owned two. They really quickly find new ways to bust a move. Lol
Yes, they do but remember that dogs carry 60% of their weight on the front legs and when you remove one front leg that one leg takes 60% of the weight. They are much more prone to injuries later in life in the front leg remaining. Removing a back leg is less traumatic because they don’t carry as much weight.
Might consider networking with Dr Noel Fitzpatrick. He even has the technology at the university for the hardware.
Might just be an option with discounts.
The poor baby Amber and Wow, are amazing and heaven scent. 😢😮❤
Amber, poor dog, and so sorry for the leg and lover her.😢
Dearest Scott, I understand that surgery/medicine costs are very high, but surely you could help a dog/cat now and again without considering this?
Yes, of course, you have to run your clinics, but maybe once in a while?
Or do you actually do this?❤
He might already be helping out the charity in donating his knowledge and skilled hands. And as far as I have read, he is indeed patroning the local charity which helped Amber.
Vets do not earn as much money as one might be tempted to think, just because they have a doctors title.
Fresh off University, a vet in Switzerland maybe earns ~3000.
Me however, I used to get 5000, just for office work, and NO university degree needed, just a free 3 year apprenticeship, and obviously NO university fees to pay!
And in Switzerland, wages are very high, so elsewhere, they might be even lower!
So let's say, Scott gained 5000 a month aswell (age and experience), he would have to put two monthly wages aside just to go bankrupt himself and fund surgery for one dog. Imagine, he would have to do this for every dog! Just not possible.
Hopefully it works out ok.
She could very well be a purebred Malinois, one of the colorings of the breed is a light fawn with very little black. Her demeanor, her face and slight body shape are all highly suggestive of a female Belgian Malinois.
I would think they're saying she's a cross to avoid any backlash from claiming she's a purebred Malinois. Amber is a sweet dog for sure.
Ps
Fudging amazing work!❤
Sweet girl!
It'll be interesting whether the options are to shorten the growing radius (which will result in a short fo😊releg), or lengthen the shortened ulna (which is super hard in an animal), or something out of left field
Yes, tjus would be a very interesting surgery! Hope they won't blurr it or upload both, a blurred and a non-blurred version of the video.😊

Gorgeous puppy. Hope she/he can be helped.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Aw bless amber ❤
Aww bless her

My dog looks exactly like Amber...except mines a boy, lol
I feel like Prof. Fitzpatrick would be the best for this case. He has the expertise and equipment needed to do so. He also had a charity for these sort of cases. It might be worth a try.
Poor baby
Do you think your friend Dr. Michael, the gentleman who helped Betty, would be willing to help Amber? He seems to be a wonderful orthopedic surgeon.
Why are some streets strait lines and others are wavy? From Southern California
I wonder WHY super rich people dont react to save lives?😡😡😡
Most don't watch thing like this. Many very rich do help shelters! In USA there are many!
You don't get super rich by spending your money on people and animals in need.. Not the kind of people for such things
Most rich people donate a lot of their money to non-profit organizations.
Perhaps they do but don't brag about it
Probably why they are rich! They must hand on to their money!
Amber looks to me like a Egyptian Pharaohs dog
Shame on the people that didn’t do something when it happened. There are just so many irresponsible people out there. It is discouraging to the rest of us. If they couldn’t afford the fix at the time, they could have reached out to rescue or fund, raising of some sort. They left the puppy to suffer. Those people get what they deserve.
💔💔😢😢🙏🙏❤❤❤❤🐾🐾🐕

Hi there 😊
If you check in the comment that Dr. Scott has pinned above, you will find that he has replied that all tje RUclips Superthanks will go directly towards Amber's surgery.
This is why I donated here aswell.
Take care and if you really happen to have some spare money for Amber, thank you very very much! 😊😘
Vet care, like everything else has become so expensive! But where it hurts the most is when people want to do the right thing and spay/neuter their pets, but prices went from $60 for a dog to $200! A little dog now already cost you over $100! And thats at a LOW COST spay/neuter clinic! Or when you have to pay over $100 just to walk in the door at the vet for mandatory tests. I had to result in doing my own shots and having rabies done at events and animal shelters; which is only good for 1 year instead of 3, but still cheaper!
If one does not have the 150 extra money for neutering and spaying, how are they going to get together the money for food, leash, harnesses, basket, blanket, poobags, vaccinations....
Some could easily cut down on cigarettes and alcohol, that is literally 300 per month, if one is a regular smoker/drinker. But for this money, one can buy a lot of dog food. There's enough stories, where homeless people came off drugs, fags and alcohol, because they set their priorities right and spend the money for the dog. If even people in such big poverty can do it, why should people who still have a home, not be able to do this?
Even in Indonesia, a ROAD-SIDE- surgery to spay/castrate costs 30 Dollars, so if the vet has to run a practise with nurses, x ray, ultrasound, and rent to pay, 200 isn't much at all! And the dog's size does not matter a lot, since there's a certain amount of steps the vet needs to do with any animal to end up with an infertile dog/cat.
You can only donate if you are in the uk :( thats the only billing address option
Not true, PayPal can be used
Where is a link please to donate to Amber
Hi there
You can donate directly to Amber's surgery as follows:
1.
Use the link in the video description and it will lead you to the main page of the charity.
(I can't post the video link here, because RUclips would then delete my comment.)
2. On the top right, there is the "3 bars symbol".
Click on it.
This opens the website's navigation.
3. Scroll through the navigation and you will find the "Dr. Scott and Amber" point.
Click onto this and the project description page will open.
4. After having read it all, you can then click the orange button "Donate now".
Hope it helped, and if yes, thanks very much for your contribution, how ever little it may be. 😘
Why not form a Veterinary National Health Service, similar to the services available for the people? Taxes may go up, but at least every animal will be properly cared for. This would help relieve the burden of abandoned animals.

Amber looks like a malinois
did he get a divorce over the years? I don't see a wedding ring anymore... that would be sad.
Not necessarily. Vets constantly need to remove wedding rings for surgeries. And when working in a shelter with possibly aggressive animals, they might remove it or wear it on a chain around their neck.
I think every couple finds their own "code" about wearing the rings. As long as it is fine to them, it's allright to me.
I personally would wear a wedding ring on my thumb, because I want to see and feel it. When worn on the ring finger, it disappears behind the mobile phone. But worn on my thumb, I would see and feel the ring, switch the screen of my mobile off more often and just think about the relationship I have with my real partner in real life, not with digital people on social media.
And I could even imagine a little ritual, which is actively working with the rings. For example: taking the ring off every night and giving it to the partner, and exchanging the ring again every next morning and enter a new day together. Many different codes there, so yes, divorces happen, but there might be a different reason.
I'm always surprised when shows like this don't provide the surgeries in return for having a supply of content from the rescues. I hope they at least pay them something.
The rescues are also getting publicity. Smaller rescues like this one (I used to live near this one) need all the help they can get to get their name out there, get funds in general, and advertise the animals available.
This well off celebrity status vet asking people to pay for her surgery while profiting off her is just disgusting.
Any update on Amber?
I am unsure how to donate for Amber's surgery specifically. The link to the Rescue Centre appears to be for general donations to the Centre. If I donate through that link, will the donation be applied to Amber's surgery? Or is the right method to donate through the Super Thanks button for this video?

There's 2 links in the information with the video. One is for the rescue (general) other is for Amber
Why not get Dr Noel Fitzpatrick involved.
amputation is far less expensive than reparative surgery and most dogs recover faster
Why are vets so expensive?
Cause they have expensive wants. My vet is expensive due to building a new house. $3300.00 for my cat that was attacked by dogs running loose.
@@user-gh5gf7ow1j No, vet school costs the same as medical school. No grants to speak of, student loans are expensive, then there's the cost of an office, staff, taxes, supplies, etc.. Not to mention the cost of living, they pay the same rents as we do. Small wonder so many vets end up committing suicide.
Don’t get a pet if you can’t afford it. Animals are not disposable.
Although this much is true, the way you expressed it is utterly awful, may even shameless!
@@ingonowack3839 no, it is the truth. If someone does not want to hear this, their problem, it is not ok to be silk gloved with people and because they don't understand it, they buy an animal that has to suffer again, before it is rescued.
Was will man mehr?
