What a memorable fight and fitting theme that was! Btw, I've played both neutral and pacifist routes blind on the gameplay channel. You can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/JHxQCEf2Vf8/видео.html
8:29 This is actually my favourite part, even though it's short. Short and sweet, happy upbeat, and it's the same as his music when he's not in battle, the one called "It's Showtime!"
Death by glamor is actually made up of 3 other songs in the soundtrack. The 3 songs are "Core", "Metal Crusher", and "Show time!", which are all played in the areas leading up to the fight.
@@CrashCubeZeroOnethat's because Undertale utilises one motif for all the area music. Edit: except for Here We Are which is pure alphys but that's. A very specific exception.
To quickly reprise some of the leitmotifs this song riffs on: - When the first piano kicks in, this is the opening motif from the CORE's BGM. - After the "Mettaton singing" part where you noted the underlying chords starting to actually progress, this is the latter half of Mettaton's battle theme ("Metal Crusher"). - When the saxophone kicks in, this is a remix of Mettaton's base theme ("It's Showtime").
Thank you for pointing these out! My favorite thing about undertale music is how its all so connected through leitmotifs in one way or another that also inform the character that the given ost belongs to. It's amazing how he is able to take all these leitmotifs and then do all these awesome music theory things on top of them.
6:40. So what you're saying is Toby pulled the musical equivalent of "I see you shiver with antici.......................PATION"? That's too perfect for Mettaton!
I remember Pokemon Black/White also did this build up. When passing the gates toward Victory Road, they'd start with just one instrument, and whenever you presented a badge and moved on to the next area, they'd add another instrument. And then you're completely hyped up while traversing Victory Road. It technically wasn't much, but to me, it's one of the most memorable moments of the game.

Davi you made me realize something about this song! Mettaton's song also mirrors his transformation. You mention how the first part of the song is just one simple cord and feels claustrophobic like kind of like being trapped in a box. Then the second part of the song is very dramatic and even "classy". This is just like how Mettaton transforms from a simple, rectangular robot to a tall glamourous robot. Toby is brilliant!

Death by Glamour is one of my favorite all time boss themes, and I think it’s a masterclass in how to compose the theme for an area boss. It weaves every Mettaton theme and the themes of Hotland and The Core into one big final piece, really tying that whole portion of the game together. I love it.
"a lot more dramatic then it needed to be." Yep. That's Mettaton in a nutshell. He's an entertainer, and being extra is part of the gig. He starts the fight actually wanting to fight you, but as it progresses. He gets into the moment with the fight transforming into a performance, and is just having fun.
This track incorporates leitmotifs from Hotland, CORE, Mettaton's regular battle music (which is where the 'voice' noise was already used), his hotel/shows, and even the dramatic riff from before the fight. Always a nice way to make boss music since they're supposed to be the culmination of the area that they're at the climax of.

one thing interesting: in an interview, not sure which one, toby fox said that he had planned one song for the final boss and later he changed his mind to another one, I always wondered if maybe this one was going to be the final boss song and that maybe when he changed his mind he just changed it so it fits mettaton there are other few I feel could be, but this one is so powerful I really believe that's possible
I love that the part from 4:01 to 4:25 is a heavily sped up and glitzed up version of the latter half of Metal Crusher, Mettaton's first battle theme when he attacks you in Alphys' lab.
Not related to Undertale, but that comment on holding a single chord for an extended period of time and how music is usually supposed to have lots of movement made me think about one of my favourite battle themes from another game. It is almost _completely still_ and doesn't even really feel like it's building to anything at all. It simply _is._

I still remember my fight with mettaton on my first playthrough, it was easily the most memorable part. I distinctly remember saying "this is so awesome" in the intensity of the fight and music; I was just having pure, unpolluted fun
The first half is made of one power chord because he's made of metal. Jokes aside, I associate that major chord and tense chord with Mettaton a lot. It has the same gravitas that news shows' theme music had back when I lived with regular television watchers.
I love how far you go to break things down, it’s very appreciated. I’d love to see you do more undertale, there are so many great tracks in the OST! I’d recommend a few but I’m sure you already get tons. I do at least have to vouch for track 72 because it’s not actually in the game and often gets overlooked
I really like the inclusion of the second piano for the opening number. The way the first synchs up with the drum makes me think of a foot tapping to the beat to get into the rhythm, but then the second one comes out and it's like the song starts breaking out into this full blown dance number. It's like it's saying "hey gorgeous, check out these LEGS!"
death by glamour it's an amalgamation of a lot of themes: CORE at the beginning, Metal Crusher at the "best part" (as many call it) that is actually inspired by Noise Master's theme from another game (if I remember right), It's showtime! at the actual best part also the OST version is sped up, in-game this sounds slower.
Daviii it's been so long ! Glad you're reacting to Undertale tracks again ! (Just remember I forgot to update myself in your Undertale playthroughs. Whoops.)
It's interesting that you comment on Mettaton "singing" his own song, bc it makes a ton of sense, but it also harkens back to something interesting in Heartache, Toriel's battle theme: that one has a high pitched portion at times that sounds, to me, a lot like a goat crying. I hadn't really noticed that level of character "voice" in their own songs before this series!
This guy can tell you the story of Undertale better than "The story of Undertale" (The fan-made song, yeah, the really cringy one) without having the full experience of the game.
Woah 7 days ago, didnt expect another one of these videos. Maybe we can get a professional opinion on mettatons cousin. Although id really wanna know your opinion on Legend of Zelda songs, such as the main theme
Funny You Say this cause as soon as the video came out i just got to mettaton lol, but yes i agree that Death By Glamour is one of the best Undertale Songs
The "oh" at the end killed me I understand that video ended right after the song because average attention span of a youtube viewer is one song, and after that they close the video, I suffer from that too. But it's really a shame that you haven't said anything about the happy relaxation bit, how it skyrocketed into tensity and the mad dummy style little playout out of a song

CORE at the beginning,
Metal Crusher at the "best part" (as many call it) that is actually inspired by Noise Master's theme from another game (if I remember right),
It's showtime! at the actual best part
also the OST version is sped up, in-game this sounds slower.
The Noise Master theme was also composed by Toby Fox for a friend's comic series or something like that
I think Metal Crusher came first though
I would love to see a Spider Dance analysis. Wouldn’t analyzing the theme of your favorite character be amazing?
Same!
é tão bom ver pessoas gostando das músicas que eu amo :)
Woah 7 days ago, didnt expect another one of these videos. Maybe we can get a professional opinion on mettatons cousin. Although id really wanna know your opinion on Legend of Zelda songs, such as the main theme
The best way I would describe the one note thing is like the beginning of a song when you are like tapping your foot or snapping your fingers
Funny You Say this cause as soon as the video came out i just got to mettaton lol, but yes i agree that Death By Glamour is one of the best Undertale Songs
The "oh" at the end killed me
I understand that video ended right after the song because average attention span of a youtube viewer is one song, and after that they close the video, I suffer from that too. But it's really a shame that you haven't said anything about the happy relaxation bit, how it skyrocketed into tensity and the mad dummy style little playout out of a song
Not sure if you take recommendations, but the Terraria Calamity OST has some great tracks with a really interesting use of motifs and I think you'd love it
definitely my favourite track from the game
it's like, the perfect track, perfect for vocals, perfect for dancing and just vibing to it
OH YEAH!! Davi's made a video about one of my favorite tracks of Undertale's OST!
Please do Another Medium (Hotland theme) analysis. Such a great theme
