  • Join Eric as he makes individual Beef Pot Pies using the Instant Pot pressure cooker. These pot pies are then baked in mini springform pans. The Instant Pot pressure cooker makes cooking the filling fast and easy. These pot pies are the perfect comfort food because they are single serving and filled with beef, onions, celery, carrots, garlic, and peas in a flavorful gravy. The pies use regular pie crust that can be homemade or store bought. They are shaped into the mini springform pans and baked. They pop out of these pans very easily and are an impressive dish. It is a great family recipe!

    What a great video. I loved your teaching me how to use my new Instant Pot making something I just love. It's almost fall and soon winter time here so will be sure to make it but will make a whole pie and invite our friends over. Thanks and keep on teaching us.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 6 лет назад +2

      Thank you Sherri, glad it was helpful for you. Yeah, I wanted to show how to cook the recipe, but also show how to use the cooker since many people don't show the details of how it works. Yeah, you can cook up a big beef pie. I did a different video doing beef stew. Forgot if it was on the IP or the Cosori, but they are almost identical. Watch that one too if you want to make a beef stew. Once again, thanks for watching.

    Okay, I am a beef loving Texas girl, no doubt about it. However, never in my life have I been even slightly attracted to beef pot pies, or even chicken ones... but turkey...YES! With that said, this video absolutely enthralled me. I was salivating all the way through and now I am craving one. You made it look delicious and inviting and by the time it baked, it was absolutely gorgeous and alluring! I am up for a beef pot pie now... homemade. The only thing I would possibly change is to add mushrooms. Brilliant! Great job both Eric and Amy {:-))

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +3

      Thank you Janine. There are a million ways of doing these. I treated it like beef stew, but only smaller since these individual pans are smaller. If you are going to do a bigger pan or a casserole dish (stew with a crust or two), then you can go bigger. I hope you let us know how it turns out if you make some.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for subbing. It's amazing what you can cook in a pressure cooker for say, 20 or 30 minutes under pressure. I have this video and the beef stew video. Most Aroma pressure cookers are also multi-cookers like the Insta Pot and the Cosori. So you can brown your meat in the cooker to save on dirtying a pan, or do it in the pan and save time. Up to you. Stew meat cooks fast. Chicken cooks fast. Really amazing. We made chicken bone stock in one of these. Saves a ton of time. Cook something and let us know how it goes.

    They look amazing Eric, I have never made beef pot pies before, only chicken.
    That recipe is very similar to my beef stew recipe which my family loves.
    I am going to try this soon.
    You looked a bit nervous but you were great, Just enjoy it. You know what you are doing and that is the most important thing.
    Hope Amy feels better soon. Have a great day,..

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for watching and the complement. I'm glad you like this. Yes, I would treat this like a beef stew recipe. I only suggested smaller pieces because of the individual pies are kinda small. If you are baking in a larger container, then regular stew size should work. I was only nervous a bit in that Amy did not help me film, except for her small part. I always like a second set of eyes on the camera to make sure I don't goof. I'd hate to have it all cooked and find out I forgot to turn on the second (close-up_) camera, like I did when I made the huge oatmeal cookies :-( Amy's fine. We filmed this a few weeks back during our Christmas break. I just didn't have time to edit it. I appreciate your words. I had only used this Instant Pot once before with this recipe (the trial run was equally tasty), but I wanted to convey on camera that it works well. I usually use a heavy pan to cook my stew meat, so the pressure cooker was an interesting change. If not being accused of TMI, Amy and her mom beat me once at a chili cook-off because I used a different pressure cooker. I had NO IDEA that this meat cooks so fast. I think I ran it for like an hour or more and scorched it so bad, it was horrible. I came in last. Only good thing was, that I had some tasty beer, so I didn't care too much about what the poor judges had to eat :-) LOL!!! Amy's fine. She wasn't feeling good for a few days on our break. She's back to her normal self. Please let us know how it turns out for you.

    I couldn't imagine desiring any pot pie at all...but given it is you two I wanted to watch....I loved every moment-I so want to do this ! I just love that I'm going to be able to accomplish this...I shared in another video when making muffin meatloaf(s) I was going to give them to an uncle a good distance away(Hospice) & they were so successful & such a surprise, I'm going to do the same with this...can I freeze them? You two are a winning combination in every way...cannot put into words how good I feel when watching any of your videos...and afterwards...I learn so much...I laugh often at you Eric & your comments...you're an entertainer...and Amy...well...she's just got a permanent place right here in our home...we love visiting with her...well it's almost like a real visit... Here's to you both ! Thanks for everything.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoy our videos and even give the recipes a try. Thanks for letting us know about the muffin meatloaf. I don't know why you couldn't freeze them. Just do your best to get rid of the air if not using a food saver. If using Ziplock bags, maybe cover in freezer paper or just make sure to not leave them in there too long. Glad you watch us for entertainment as well. My biggest concern is that if people ONLY watch for watching, then it doesn't matter how the food turns out, right? But if one person actually dared to try the recipe, then it had better work or else it's not going to be pleasant. So we do our best to teach and show how to cook so anyone can do it. Thank you for all the kind words. You are very kind and thoughtful. We definitely appreciate that. Glad I inspired you to try the pot pie. It is very tasty and has a fraction of the chemicals the Banquet TV dinner ones have. LOL!!! We have a lot of videos on the way. Just need to get them edited and uploaded.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 6 лет назад +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching. You can use either one, but I think cornstarch is a little more powerful in absorbing the liquid, thus takes a little less. But when making gravy, I'll use either one. For those that are gluten intolerant, they would prefer cornstarch.

    I think I'll make chicken pot pies this week and beef pot pies next week, with pie crust from scratch.
    I've never liked store bought pot pies, although I've eaten them often. I made Hummingbird cake and sweet potato cornbread in silicone cake/loaf pans I recently bought because I like the idea of smaller cakes, smaller meatloaf, etc. Really looking forward to using them for pot pies, even though I have small springform pans.
    I have never made pot pies, so thanks for making it look easy, and delicious.

      Thanks for watching. Amy's in negotiations right now to get a pressure cooker for review purposes. So we'll see how that turns out. It looks like the Fagor at Macy's is $60-$70 for 4 qt/6qt or this InstantPot is $100, but it does a lot of cool things. Perhaps Amy can chime in. Keep your eyes peeled as we hope to try out pressure cooker review.

      They need to bake. The IP doesn't really bake. Thus not a good idea . If you just "saute", it likely wouldn't cook either. If you have an air fryer, they may cook because that is just an expensive small convection oven. Hope that helps.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching. In your case, you may want to cook the meat under pressure and add the veggies at the end like we do with the peas. That way your veggies are still raw like you like them. For people that usually cook their veggies, they can add them like I did, and they'll turn out fine. See my chunky beef stew for an alternate way to cook the veggies. Thanks.

    You know you could freeze those, remove them from the pans, make more, freeze them. Then when ready put back in pans to bake. I would suggest sea salt rather than table salt which is literally just poison.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +1

      That sounds interesting. We just make them for lunch for the week and eat within three days and nuke to reheat. but if eating for dinner at a later time, then that would be neato to freeze and rebake in the pans. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it.

    How's is this different then a normal pressure cooker?

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching, we appreciate it. I'm not sure what a "normal" pressure cooker is. There are stovetop models that have less safety features going all the way back to the ones my mom used years ago that have simple weights on the vent. You control the pressure by adjusting the stove burner temp. The electric ones adjust automatically so all you do is tell it how hot and how long and it takes care of the rest. They all feature interlocks keeping the lid from flying off (and preventing you) from removing the lid unless you manually defeat the device. That's about all I can think of. Does that help?

  • @wayne1955

    Oh man, those looked awesome. I love pot pies but I'm not to fond of the ones you buy in the stores. Could you tell me what brand of piecrust you used? The reason I ask is because I bought Pillsbury pie crust one time to make a pot pie and it turned out looking great. I let it cool and put one on my plate and took a big bite of it and I was like whoa, something is way off. Then it dawned in me that it was sweet, I'm like what the hell? So get the piecrust box and start reading the ingredients and there is sugar in the crust. It just really ruined my pot pies. I'm 61 years old and I don't recall ever seeing my mom, or any of my aunts or my grannies use sugar in a pie crust. Maybe some people do, but no one in my family ever did.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад

      Thanks for watching. I honestly can't tell you. Our supermarket sells a name brand, probably Pillsbury, and a store brand. I've used the name brand. I don't recall any sweetness from sugar, but will have to look the next time I'm in that aisle.

    • @AmyLearnsToCook
      @AmyLearnsToCook  6 лет назад

      +julee nave You definitely do not want to deep fry in a pressure cooker. It is only done in a commercial pressure fryer that has a heavy latched lid and is built for pressure frying. They are very expensive. Deep frying in a home pressure cooker is dangerous.

    Could you add potatoes to this recipe?

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +2

      Sure!!! I haven't tested with potatoes, but I don't know why they would not work. They should be able to be cooked in a pressure cooker in the time specified. If not using a pressure cooker, then you'll need to figure out how long you are going to cook the meat to be tender (1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours) and cook the potatoes toward the end so they aren't in the pot for a whole 2 or 3 hours. Different potatoes hold up better than others and if cutting them small, they will cook faster. If you are using these small individual pans, then you'll want to cut the potatoes small. Otherwise if making a larger pot pie, then your potatoes can be a bit larger. I hope that helps.

    • @GailMarie1972
      @GailMarie1972 7 лет назад +1

      Eric Learns to Cook I think if you cube them small enough it should work. Thank you for your time.
