I would only knit something in fancy yarn for the baby of a fellow knitter who would love the yarn . And plenty of coordinating bibs to help keep it clean 😂
Absolutely, man-made fibers have a place in the world of needles and hooks. Great for those garments that are going to have some wear and tear. Great to practice on before I knit with something more expensive. I have major stashes of both man-made and natural. Love both types.🥰🐑🧶
I use acrylic yarn for jumpers and anything that’s going to be next to my skin because I can’t find a wool that doesn’t itch. Also I can’t afford high end yarn. For socks I use 75/25 wool/nylon because my feet don’t mind! Wear my socks for two days. Thankyou SO much Tina for this down to earth channel and for being so encouraging! ❤
It was great to see your stash video with the variety and it including acrylic. I've made 3 garments so far and the one that is the most comfortable for me is the one made with acrylic. I love knitting with soft yarn - be that merino, acrylic, other fibres- because I have sensitive skin. Right now what is in the budget for me is acrylic and your stash video reminded me that I like stylecraft yarn. It's made the idea of more garment knitting possible again. Thank you for your videos - I'm new to your channel!
Hi Tina Whitmoor is beautiful. I use mainly Acrylic yarn for sweaters as it is much more affordable and hand dyed yarn for shawls and socks. Your Granny square blanket is looking very good too. Have a great week. Take care Amanda from Lincolnshire xxx 🧶🧶
Tina, I so enjoy your podcast. I find myself waiting for the next episode. Thank you so much for including acrylic yarn in the survey. I think acrylic has a place in the conversation not all of my makes need the high price yarn. I love Lionbrand heartland acrylic yarn it washes well and it holds up. Please make a Whitmoor pullover tutorial, your sweater is gorgeous. Thanks so much for being an inspiration.
Sorry no tutorials, it's a paid for pattern so wouldn't be ethical. It's a very well written pattern. If you have knitted a top down raglan before you would be fine knitting this 😁
Hi Tina. I wash my socks after wearing them 4 times and non wool socks after second time. As for yarn, I knit with acrylic, cotton mix and wool. I enjoy your fun podcasts very much. Thank you!
I can not believe how far my knitting had come. About a year or 2 ago, I knit my first sweater watching your videos. Today, I have done so much more - colorwork, cables, lace, steeking, and currently knitting another cardigan. I knit with all sorts of yarn(mainly natural, non-superwash) and have yarn from economical like Drops to Nutiden/cashmere. Still, I appreciate that you use yarn of varying price points. I started knitting in 2019 and if I had encountered your videos back then, I would have made better yarn choices as some of the yarns I bought back then were just pricier for no reason. I think using budget-friendly yarn is an excellent idea because it shows people they do not have to spend $150 on a sweater and they can see how beautiful it turns out. Let's be fair, if someone compliments your sweater, they are not complimenting the yarn - it's the actual garment they love. If someone prefers hand-dyed yarn and have the budget for it, that's great. However, using more accessible yarn makes this wonderful craft open to a lot more people.
Yes that is exactly how I feel. I made the tutorial videos because I'm passionate about helping people start knitting. We need all yarn price points budget to luxury to encourage new knitters and keep more experienced knitters excited about the craft .Thank you for your lovely comment and well done for coming so far in such a short time. I'm so happy the videos helped 😁
Hello, great podcast content and lovely projects. I knit with wool and acrylic depending on who will receive the end product. I believe everyone more or less started with acrylic content yarn and forgot its uses when they moved on to the more natural yarn. Both have their uses. As for socks, if I am using them around the house, I tend to wear them often (for the week) before I put them in the wash. I wash my socks in the washing machine and will dry them on sock blockers if I remember to do so.
Hi Tina,I use acrylic yarn for blankets and shawls, knitwear and baby items.Sometimes there will be 80% premium acrylic and 20% wool in my yarn for shawls and knitwear.I purchase commercial sock yarn for my socks,WYS,Opal and Drops are my favourites.I do have some hand dyed sock yarn, but I do not purchase alot of it,although I love the wide range of colours. It is refreshing to watch a podcaster who used acrylic yarn.I only really know of one other who uses acrylic quite happily.I have been a follower for a long time now and have liked that you use acrylic yarn and discuss it on your podcasts.😊
I knit with both natural fibres and acrylic yarn Tina A baby blanket may be easier to care for if it is acrylic for the new mum I am experimenting with sock yarn I handwash my hand knit socks I do not have many of them at present I hand wash my scarves too and machine wash acrylic yarn slippers I do not have the budget to knit with expensive yarns exclusively nor am I an experienced knitter Have a great knitting day!
I use both acrylic and natural fiber. I am a larger woman and just can’t afford not to use acrylic fiber for sweaters. And natural for the smaller items like socks and hats. Thank you for all your videos. You taught me how to knit!!! Thank you thank you
Nothing wrong with using yarn in your price point. However, if you are in the market for natural fiber, try Drops brand or even yarn in cones - excellent value.
I’m fairly new to knitting and I’m getting confident with the basics. Your tutorials are so helpful to me and you’ve given me the confidence to try making the vanilla socks 😊. I just need to get the right sized needles & I’ll get started. I like to use acrylic & natural fibres. Thanks for all the great content ❤
Hi Tina, In the 80’s I remember knitting a really lovely mohair sweater that was all blocks of colour, I used to wear it as a coat. Unfortunately I no longer have it but wish I did as it was probably one of the best sweaters I have owned, i really loved it that sweater. It was not a cheap knit at the time but it lasted for years and years. I like middle of the road prices, Wool Warehouse is my favourite yarn shop too! I also knit a 100% chunky cardigan for lounging around the house and I love it, very cosy and warm. Regarding the socks, I tend to wear mine two or three times and then wash them but sometimes i will wear socks just to go the shops and only wear them for an hour or two, in that case I would probably leave them for longer before washing. Love all of your yarn choices, if the yarn looks pretty then I am sold on it no matter what the content is. Happy knitting!
Hi Tina, I wear my knitted socks about 10 wears as well but i am just wearing them around the house, if I wear them out for the day I will wash them afterwards. I have just used up all the acrylic yarn I have to make slippers and won’t buy more as I don’t like the feel of it in my hands when knitting, I just prefer the feel and smell of natural fibres🌻
Another good video. I throw my socks in the machine on gentle and hang to dry after wearing them three times. Then hang to air in between that. For all baby items I use acrylic, as well as for people who do not like anything scratchy. Currently knitting some socks out of drops nord. I find it stretches a bit after knitting a previous pair with the same yarn si I just keep that in mind now adjusting my needle size or stitch count. Love the sweater you are working on, you inspire me to try one of those. Happy stitching 😉
I like Carleen Barker's comment that you taught her how to knit!! Lets not forget, you taught me how to knit socks!!! I love your videos, keep em coming!
I use acrylic yarn as well certain fibres can be itchy or scratchy so I use what is comfortable for me! Thank you for these tutorials because of you I was able to knit socks and top down sweaters!
I love that you knit garments with acrylic, and use simple/free patterns. That is the knitting that appeals to me most, it feels fun, timeless, and accessible. I do occasionally get sucked into the indie sock yarn vortex on Etsy, but I can’t afford to make larger items from them and don’t have the lifestyle to support caring for garments made of high end yarns.
Hi Tina, I have a fair few hand knit socks and alternate a lot. Wear for a 4-5 days, then back in drawer for another pair. Then I do a big wash every few months. I’m a wool gal! I’m knitting the Aurora Cabin shawl at the mo and have everything on a tray, so it’s portable but the balls can all be kept in order, and it’s easier to carry the ends. I’ve just finished the section you’re on. Xx
Hi Tina, I love acrylic and Drops yarns. To be honest I can’t afford high end yarns and I knit because I enjoy it… I wouldn’t enjoy it if I was spending a fortune on it, I’d be too afraid to enjoy the process. Besides which I can’t abide snobbery in hobbies so I use whatever I can afford and be happy with x
Hi Tina. I wash my hand made socks the same as you do, about every three wears. I also wash them in the washing machine but I hang them to dry. So far I have had no problems. I decided this new year that I was l wanted to knit a pair of socks every month and figured out that about 5 to 6 rows a day would be good. The heel, toe and cuff would count for one day each. I am knitting them two at a time. I’m really excited to use up some of the yarn I have purchased for this purpose as they were just sitting in my stash. I love your videos and will look for them every Sunday now! ❤
I love wool! I have knit with blends, wool, acrylic, alpha, etc etc. It's not in my budget to spend a ton on a sweaters quantity of expensive yarn but I have found wonderful yarns on clearance, overstocks and in many of the online yarn box stores too. There are destashes on etsy. It can be very fun to see what you can find! There's a place at the table for ALL!!
Hi , I use both, depending on what I’m making. I love alpaca cause it’s so soft. But sock torn is wool and nylon mix. Baby clothes usually acrylic or a mix. And then a touch of luxury once in a while in a shawl or mittens, and an odd sweater .hope this helps. As you say, use what’s good for you, you’re the one paying for it and making it/wearing it ❤️x
I knit and crochet using both, acrylic and wool yarns. It just depends on who and what I am knitting or crocheting. I wear my hand knitted sock twice before washing them. I love both your Whitmoor sweaters. Thank you for sharing 😊
This is why I love your podcast because, I am like you, middle of the road, I knit/crochet with acrylic and wool. I usually buy commercially produced yarns because they are in my budget. Thanks again for sharing and doing these videos, I really enjoy them.
I prefer to knit with natural fibres, mainly because they're warmer, though I do occasionally use acrylic or a mix. My favourite is Drops Karisma. Not expensive and machine washable. Pills a bit but it's a good workhorse yarn. For your sock question I usually wear a pair 3 times, sometimes 4 or 5. I have a friend that wears hers 5 times. I hand-wash all mine - using wool wash. As some of mine are commercial yarn and some are indie dyed - and I forget which are hand wash only - it's easier just to do them all the same. I'm retired, so spending time hand washing is easy. Loved your video. Your Stephen West shawl is looking lovely.
HI Tina,,,,Enjoyed UR chats,,, Sunday!!! Used to use alot of argliic yarns,,,Now sometimes for blankets,,,Like style craft,,,for that,,, and usually wash and air dry my socks everyday,,except my boot socks,,,They get washed once a week,,, Love UR scrappy cro het blanket,,, Elaine🏡🏡🏡
Hi Tina, I knit with acrylic only. I can not stand the prickeling. Acrylic only even if the whole world is natural, I knit with acrylic. Love your video's
Oh you did make me laugh! I'm not so much inclined to throw my toys out the pram but I have zero patience for fiddly! I love that Knitted Animal Friends book but haven't the patience for knitting them. Same with that tiny frog everyone has made. I'd love one but not enough to make it! For those five colours, I'm wrapping them into the icord edge. I won't "weaving Stephen them if I'm cutting them. I find it messes with my tension. I'm recording later, if I remember I'll show you x
Hi, I wash my socks every 2 - 3 wears. I wash them by hand , get the excess moisture out with a towel and dry them on sock blockers. So good to hear acrylic yarn being discussed. I use whatever I can afford and as much as I’d love to spend a small fortune on expensive yarns for a jumper, I just couldn’t justify it. I tend to use 100% cotton for crochet and I’m already thinking about summer knitting projects I can use my cotton stash on. Hope you have a good week and I’m already looking forward to your next vlog x
Love your channel. I watch you on my phone. Typically, it's cast to the TV while I sit and knit with a blanket and puppy on my lap and a streaming hot tea on the table. It's my favorite time of the day. You look fabulous on my 65 inch tv, btw. I use acrylic and natural fibers depending on the project and who it is being made for. I have only made 2 pairs of socks. I am excited to see the socks you make this year and try a couple more pairs. Thank you for the content you provide. I am a visual learner and your tutorials kept me from throwing my toys from the pram.
I don't use acrylic yarn other than a blend as I get way too hot and sweaty wearing anything acrylic (not a good look). I am envious of others that don't have my problem. I think it's important to have fun with your hobby, there's lots of really good acrylic and lovely blends around. Something for everyone. I'm busy trying to get a handle on my stash and am currently knitting a fun sweater from wool I've had for about 12 years. Probably couldn't afford to buy it today! Thanks for another enjoyable and entertaining video.
😀💕xx thanks Tina. Your cardigan looks lovely on you. I used to knit baby blankets for a hospital and they would only accept acrylic so I was happy to oblige! Acrylic yarns have a very important place.
I use both types of yarn. Acrylic for things that will need to be washed more often. My socks are all hand dyed wool. I just find that acrylic is very hard on my hands.
I use a mix of yarns. With hubby and me both retired and current climate with inflation that has tilted more to mostly acrylic yarns in last couple of years . I wash my socks about every 5 wears if just wearing around the house.
If I make garments for myself & family I use merino, bamboo, cotton yarns because some wools make us itchy. I use acrylic for dog jumpers, crocheting poppies for Remembrance Day, blankets, postbox toppers and toys. I like the Women’s Institute brand in HobbyCraft. Sadly the Shaws shop near me is closing down ☹️ but I’ve had some nice acrylic yarns in Home Bargains lately. I will get some Drops Nord to see if we can wear Alpaca socks 🧦
I use both. It depends on the project really. I use mostly acrylics or acrylic blends for afghans and blankets. I use wool blends for socks. Same for shawls and other accessories, though sometimes there will be a 100% natural fiber yarn in there. I also want to be realistic about the care needed and who will be caring for it and will they do it? I do a lot of sale and clearance shopping to help with cost. As for your sock question, I'll go 2 or 3 wearings before washing.
Hi Tina! First, I want to thank you for teaching me how to cut my own hair. I meant to thank you ever since that video long ago. Second, I avoid too rustic itchy yarns and I don’t use acrylic as much any more, but it’s like you said a personal preference. Have a lovely evening! ❤
Hi Tina, I do use different wools, blended, I didn't vote about the socks as I don't knit any 🧦 socks, Your cardigan looks lovely on you, I have been researching for wool to use, it's too hard here to get style craft, and it costs so much to order it from overseas, but I have narrowed it down to 3. Thanks again for all your help on help, Sarah ❣️❣️
I like using red heart super saver yarn it is 100%acrylic I have been knitting the flax sweater with it i made my grand kids the sweater for Christmas I love your podcast
Hello Tina, I really enjoy watching your videos. Watching your tutorials on making the vanilla socks was how I learned to knit socks. Now I’m working on my flax sweater and also watching your tutorials on that. Thank you so much. Now onto the type of yarn I use. I work at a craft store in the United States called Hobby Lobby, so I have used the less expensive yarns and typically buy it when it’s on clearance, but now I’m starting to look at nicer yarns and I’m loving it. But only when my budget allows.😊
Really like your podcasts so down to earth,I wash my hand knit socks in the machine they come out just fine, wash them after 3 wears don't wear them everyday only in my boots, can't wear them daily for work, also I use a mixture of yarns at the moment I'm using recycled yarn and also knitting the whitmoor this is my second one using recycled yarn it washes really well and you have the mixture of wool and synthetics, happy knitting xx
I prefer natural fibers and luckily, even for bigger projects, there are companies around, like Drops, that make it doable. I don't want to sound like a yarn snob, but I don't like the feel of acrylic on my hands/skin and when it feels good, most of the times, it costs more than wool or alpaca etc. Now what I really love working with, it's cotton. I love cotton or cotton blends. Most people use cotton or for non wearable things, like pot holders or blankets etc but I use it a lot for tops and sweaters, even for socks, if I can get my hands on a nice elastic cotton, like it was the Katia cotton stretch, which is unfortunately discontinued. I find the sweaters made of cotton perfect for Autumn and Spring. So, what I am trying to say is that what matters is what YOU like and not what the others think. We enjoy your videos regardless of the yarn you use 😀 Regarding the socks. I use my knitted socks normally as I use all the rest of my socks. I definitely don't wash them after only one use, unless something unfortunate happens. I don't know if that is unhygienic but I do use my socks a couple or even three days before I wash them. We do shower a lot, they don't feel ....dirty. Sorry for the blabbering and I hope I didn't make anyone angry with my yarn opinion. Looking forward to your next video 🧦🧶🧵🪡
Thank you so much for your comments. I found it very respectful and honest . It's interesting you enjoy cotton so much for garments. I haven't had a lot of luck with cotton but hopefully this year will be the year I change that . I have cotton to make 3 tops ready to knit up 😁 . I hope you are having a lovely weekend
I wear socks a few days before they get washed. I don't knit - I crochet though and use cotton for amigurumi and acrylic for blankets (because they are Lucy of Attic 24 yarn packs). Love your sock and look forward to seeing it progress! Take care.
Hi Tina I only recently found your podcast and I really enjoy watching you. On the hand knitted socks I usually wear them at least twice before washing. I used to hand wash but now use the wool wash in the machine. I use acrylic yarn for blankets and I recently knitted my first jumper ( the flax by tin can knits) I used 30% wool 70% acrylic for that and I’m happy with the feel and fit. I don’t like mohair at all I find it really itchy and to frog it is a nightmare. I love hand dyed yarn for shawls and socks. Like you said everyone uses what they can afford and feel comfortable wearing. ❤
Hi Tina. I knit my socks using natural fibers, and wash them when they start to get baggy, using liquid soap in a washing machine; then place them on plastic sock forms and air dry them.
Hi Tina, I wanted to write to let you know that I loooove your podcasts even though I don't do dolls or hardly knit with any thing thicker than fingering. I started watching you because you were the only one talking about the cost of yarn and keeping it reasonable. You are a doll and a treasure on youtube. Your authenticity comes across in spades and thats why I watch. I loved your vlogmas, again keeping it real. You are definitely a breath of fresh air here, please keep doing what you do!!! I tried drops and wool warehouse because of you! I love what you make things out of, love seeing how each turns out, wears, etc. I live in a tropical climate and really only knit with plant based yarn. Although currently making one of my only wool projects (although i love wool, just doesnt make sense for me) a self drafted large rectangular shawl out of aran weight wool only to use while traveling. I'ved used wool for some gift knits for people in colder climates but even for socks I use plant based yarns most of the time. Additionally, I use fingering and lace most of the time, again because of the weather here. I do find that I prefer yarn with natural fibers but thats just me, I like store bought clothing out of natural fibers too. I wish I could say how often I wash hand knit socks but Ive only made before for others, I have my very first pair for myself on my needles now. I like your idea though wash after 2-3 wears.
That's really interesting to hear from your point of view from a hot climate. I wear wool even in summer here 😁 . Thank you also for your lovely comment, that is so sweet of you . Take care x
From what I've seen on your site your acrilic yarn comes out beautiful. I have a Hugh supply of indi yarn but probably won't use it. Love your shawl colors but that"lemon" looks like khaki to me. Love the sock pattern and your right go 2 stitches bigger.
I started knitting in 2020 with We Are Knitters Yarn and I loved the feeling of the wool. I normally prefer 100% wool and natural fiber, not a big fun of a fluffy yarn. I am also on a budget so I try to be as sensible as possible when buying. Never tried acrylic yet but I have a few gift knitting planned and I think I will buy some as it is easier to maintain and clean for a no-knitter
Hi Tina. Enjoyable as always. I usually wear my socks 3 times before washing. It seems about right for me. Re the acrylic Vs high end yarn I use a mixture of both. I love a special skein for gift knitting a shawl but don't have the budget for a whole garment in hand dyed yarn. Although that may change this year as my dear husband bought be a yarn dying kit for Christmas!
I look forward to our chats so much. I am still a new knitter. Super slow and not confident. I do love your videos and am working up the courage to do socks and a sweater. I have been crocheting since I was young. My grandmother taught me. I didn't realize then, but the yarn really caused issues for me. The baby yarn did not. Now yarn has come a long way and I love lots of them. I do struggle sometimes with natural fibers. I do love to touch them and have found some that don't break my hands out. The price makes me only want to use them for special items and then I want to keep it safe. Lol it is hard to make everyday that special occasion. Thank you for sharing with us. See you next week!
I use acrylic wool mainly for jumper’s and cardigan’s. Wys wool for my socks and just once in a while I will treat my self to a more expensive ball of wool for my socks like the new Rowan sock wool I bought the mixed blue colour way ocean. It is really nice and soft and a bit fluffy but at £12.95 a ball it’s over my normal budget for wool I think a lot of people would like to be able to buy high end wool me including but I think acrylic wool has come a long way and the colours are fantastic 🧶
I find after 3-4 wearing they start to get baggy rather than smelly. I am the same as you on yarn I use a mixture, I used a 400g ball of aran from Aldi to knit my Dad's Christmas flax jumper, it was great. But last year I treated myself to a hand dyed jumper amount , the resulting jumper is gorgeous I love wearing it, but it is definitely a treat Drops is much more normal 😃
Hiya, thanks so much for such a fun filled podcast x I tend to wash my socks, which I usually knit in 75/25 yarn, when I think they need it, sorry, that’s not too much help, but like you, if I have been out walking, they will need a quick wash, but if just wearing them at home it could be after 4 or 5 wears. My choice of yarn for jumpers etc, is a mixture, but as a special treat I will go to indie yarn yarn for a special project to make all the effort a lovely experience to knit with. So, to summarise, I think there is a place for all mixes of yarn , for our pockets and for the ideal yarn for the perfect project, thanks again for your fun, informative podcasts, always fun and areal treat! ❤
I knit with both. I love wool for garments and accessories because it’s so hardy, warm, and repels rain, but at a knitting group I go to sometimes, people are usually knitting with really top tier natural fibers and hand-dyed yarns from local people. I love a lot of the small local dyers, but financially, it’s not feasible to only knit with those. Plus, I’ve found the socks, while buttery soft and lovely, to wear out on the bottoms easily. Some of my sock soles are more darn than original knit. 😮😅
I have found that to . I started knitting socks with West Yorkshire spinners and then knit with handdyed Murano . I still wear my original WYS but the first pairs of handdyed have gone because they didn't last as well 😕 Pretty though and I still love knitting with it 😁
Hi Tina! Just wanted to let you know that I too really appreciate that you use acrylic yarn! I have a 12 year old Daughter who still wears the stuff I knit her. It has ALL been acrylic so I can throw it in the washer and not worry about it. There are some lovely acrylic yarns out there that are reasonably priced! She also wears the socks I knit for her (those are wool/nylon) for a week or so at a time!😂 they don’t smell, but they tend to wear out sooner the dirtier they get. I have gotten REALLY good at darning!🤪
I use both acrylic and fibre yarns. Just depends on what I am making. I can’t find the poll you mentioned. But then again this is me. So I confess I mustn’t be very nice to my socks. It 1 wear, 1 wash and not by hand. I put them in a linen bag and in the washing machine they go. Cold wash that is. Please don’t strike me down 😂
I use both acrylic and natural fibre, I am mindful of the project and as a garment knitter am not a fan of hand dyed I opt for the higher end commercial yarns and mainly use commercial sock yarn. As wool wicks away moisture hand knit wool socks or garment really don’t need washing that often you just have to be brave and ignore how we were taught to wash after the introduction of man made fibres which odour etc 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Tina, you always make me laugh, you’re just naturally funny. Glad you wore your Whitmoor cardigan today as I’m about to start mine, just waiting on the yarn (acrylic) coming my mail. I haven’t bought the pattern yet - are there short rows for the back. I think I’d like my neck higher but no idea how you’d put short rows in all that ‘lace’ work. Socks - I haven’t ventured down that rabbit hole, yet, but I’d be tempted to move the start of round marker. Yarn - I use both wool and acrylic, more acrylic really as I knit mostly accessories, and crochet blankets. I love lace and cables and intricate patterns. Acrylic has come a long way from granny’s thick scratchy stuff. The fingering in acrylic isn’t bad for practice. I also like the blends of wool and acrylic. The cost of hand dyed yarn is prohibitive. I understand the work involved, it’s so labour intensive and I’d love to support hand dyers but one skein is seldom enough to do much with. Love, love, love your podcasts. It’s like having coffee with a mate. Hope your work week is kind to you. I’m retired 🎉 Try not to be jealous 😂. PS. I’ve only recently realized that I see different things on YT when I look at my phone 🤷♀️. The videos are the same but there are different/extra comments, almost blogs, from the podcasters 🤯
Don't worry you haven't missed anything from me , I still trying out the extras 😁 I can't remember doing short rows but as you say with the lace it would be hard to add . They may be included in the lace but I didn't notice. I just try to follow the instructions 😊 . Take care x
I have no idea where the surveys are. When I wear my socks at home only I use them 3-4 days before I put them to wash. I shower every day, my floors are clean (no outside shoes allowed beyond the front door, no messy pets or people) so they don't really get dirty or sweaty. If I wear them in shoes going out, I would wash them after each use. I could not care less about trends and fashions. I do what works for me.
I use acrylic for blankets and some gift knits like for babies for their great wash and wear care. I agree the knit/crochet community is generally of the mindset of using the yarn that you like, made of whatever you want. I machine wash (on gentle cycle with cool water) my socks after 3-4 wears usually but I’ve gone as long as 7 wears with no issue. I think it helps to air out your socks between wears, even if it’s just overnight. In my experience, socks made with super-wash wool stretch out a bit so I knit socks a bit snug knowing they will stretch 10-30% depending on the yarn.
Hi Tina, I use both natural fibers and acrylic yarn. I think they both have their place. In terms of my wool socks, I rotate my socks and wash them every 2 weeks and have about 5 pairs in the rotation at a time. I do wear them to to work on most days and feel they are not dirty when I hand wash them. I am the only knitter in my family, so I had to guesstimate on how many times I can wear my wool before washing.
Hi Tina, I just love your Whitmore cardigan & the Whitmore jumper is nearly finished too, can’t wait to see that. I’m so glad you mentioned the socks issue, I was reading somewhere the other day on a sock Facebook page that apparently if you knit socks with 75% wool like I do mainly West Yorkshire Spinners, the wool contains lanolin so they not only keep your feet warm in Winter, but cool in summer, so in theory with a daily shower you don’t need to wash them after every wearing, I wash mine after every 2/3 wear in the washing machine on wool wash & they are fine. Mind you some people have pongy feet!! Love your podcasts, it’s through you I survived lockdown & you taught me how to knit socks 🧦 not bad for an old bird of 65. Thank you xx
Yes I wear my shorties wool socks in the house in summer and always talke a pair on a summer holiday . I can't stand cold wooden floors and tiles with bare feet 😁 We may be old birds but our feet don't stink 🤣 x
Hello I just got my needles and sock yarn today I'm so excited to make your socks but can you please do a video on how you cast on I just want to make a sock.
I use acrylic for toys and home items, mainly. I will also use it for a gift knit if I am unsure how the recipient will care for the item. For myself, I prefer natural fibres. I am always warm and I find acrylic too hot to wear. I wouldn't be opposed to using it, otherwise.
Having come back to knitting/crochet after many many years I have gone for budget wools, (just in case it all goes horribly wrong!!) currently knitting a cardigan (free pattern) with King Cole big value Aran 100% acrylic and have been surprised how lovely it feels knitted!
Hi, I’m fine thank you, hope you are too. Loving seeing all your knitting! I’m currently alternating knitting (cardigan) crochet (attic 24 Springfrost blanket) and cross stitch!😂 maybe your Stitchy bug will return later? These things go in cycles sometimes. xx
I realised I've been watching from Dawn's Days and not this channel so I'm sort of a new subscriber 🤣 love the whitmore Tina, I'm yet to fall down that rabbit hole but the yellow Jeanette made and the blue of Karen's almost enabled me. Maybe this year. Looking forward to seeing your sock journey Dawn xx
I use both acrylics and natural fibers depending on what I'm knitting. Right now, working on an acrylic afghan. We use our afghans constantly, dog too, so want to be able to throw in the washer and dryer. My most warn sweater is also acrylic. It's very oversized but elbow length sleeves, cropped length, boat neck garter stitch. It is for knocking about the house while cooking and cleaning. Wool is for my socks, shawls and Sunday-go-meeting sweaters (when I want to be fancy).
Hi Tina, I wear my socks two or three times before I wash them, i use both acrylic and natural yarns. I also use acrylics for some projects that will benefit the person I may gift to as they would want to throw in the machine multiple times as it might be for a baby or child . I also have crocheted many acrylic blankets over the years when natural wool wasn’t as popular as it is now ,and they are still going strong . It is lovely knitting and crocheting in all these natural fibres but can be very expensive ,still like to treat myself and make the most of sales. Loving your Whitmoor jumper think I’ll have to make one.
I use acrylic yarn for gift knits. I have sensitive skin and a lot of natural fibers irritate my skin. About the only natural fiber I can wear is Merino. Even the softest of yarns can irritate my skin. I wear my socks several times before washing. I think if I had odorous feet I would probably wash after each use. I generally just machine wash and dry in cold water with our everyday laundry soap.
Hello Tina, for my socks, I always use wool or cotton for summer. I wash them after every time I wear them because I wear them from bedtime to bedtime, so about 24 hours and after that, they need a wash. I enjoy knitting socks so when they do wear out, I always have some waiting. For my general knitting, I use a lot of acrylic but if the price is right will use natural fibers. I would love to use some of the fancier yarns that I see in tutorials, but right now, the budget is tight so I use what I can afford which in many cases, is just as pretty when crochet or knit up.
fabulous video. I crochet socks using non wool because wool makes me itch. Would love to be able to wear wool but it is not to be. I wash my socks after 1 wear don't have a problem with wearing out. I think that wool does not need to be washed as often as it is self cleaning and you get a sheep smell anyway. Shop bought socks are thin and don't pad the sole too well; I find with my crochet socks they are thicker and last longer although crochet does not have the same stretch as knitted socks but they do work well enough for me.
I wash my self-knitted socks by hand and let them dry flat every 5th to 6th wear. I knit socks with merino/wool/nylon mix yarn because my feet sweat and feel cold in inexpensive store-bought socks (ie: polyester, acrylic/etc). Lynda
I wash my socks after 2 or 3 wears too, as Heidi said below, they get bit saggy otherwise. I hand wash but rinse and spin in the machine, air dry. All my socks are knitted in commercial yarn, although I have one special yarn that I will make socks with. I have to admit to having a stash of hand-dyed sock yarn which I have collected over the last few years, but I will use it for shawls and blankets. Most of my DK/aran is acrylic or blends. I most likely will move more to more natural fibre yarn in future, but it will still be commercial and affordable.
I love the look of your Whitmore cardigan. \\im sat here wondering if I should try one and whether I could insert a zip. Hmmm. I'm interested in the sock washing question too. I wear twice and then machine wash on a wool wash. I only do this for my knitted socks. As to yarns,I like to use acrylic as well as other yarns. I prefer acrylic yarns for baby clothes and more hard wearing items because when I gift them I know the recipients will not be careful about how to wash them, generally and I like the way the fabric looks. I like to use hand dyed yarns for shawls and knits for myself but I am leaning more towards commercial yarns these days because they are less pricey. When I want to make a jumper I'm more careful about costing up how much its going to cost to make the item and inevitably hand dyed yarns tend to not be an option because of the cost.
I've never put a zip in a knitted item so I'm no help I'm afraid. It is just a straight button band knkt as you go . I would think it should be fine . You could reduce the number of stitches on the band but would that make it turn in at the edges 🤔😁 I would be interested to see how you get on x
Hi I love your videos! You have inspired me to make the Whitmore cardigan now, along with all my other wips! Im going to use the drops lima also. How many balls did you use to make the longer version? Price here in canada is 5.95$- 6.50 dollars, so can be pricey! Mind you I have spent more shhhh😂
I’ve been throwing my toys out of the pram! Started the Whitmoor sweater last week. I’ve had to take it back 3 times, seem to go wrong on round 7 every time. 🙈
I use acrylic or man-made yarn for charity hats, family hats, home decor, and for my own practice and learning. Every yarn has its use. It also depends on cost and value: sometimes I want a sweater but don't want to spend big bucks on it. I don't follow trends, the last craze about those rustic-handmade-smells like sheep yarn is not for me (too expensive, too hard to get). And I wear my socks 4-5 times but depends on my activities.
I love that you use affordable yarns and they are machine friendly, keep up the podcasts x
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a lovely week x
I use acrylic yarn for baby clothes & blankets. I’m glad to know & watch someone who’s not afraid to say so. Acrylic yarn has its purpose.
Seriously! What parent wants baby clothes they can’t pitch in the washing machine? And babies grow so fast, it’s kind of a waste of fancy yarn.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it x
I use acrylic yarn for jumpers and anything that’s going to be next to my skin because I can’t find a wool that doesn’t itch. Also I can’t afford high end yarn. For socks I use 75/25 wool/nylon because my feet don’t mind! Wear my socks for two days. Thankyou SO much Tina for this down to earth channel and for being so encouraging! ❤
Thank you so much, I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Happy knitting x
Tina, that sweater looks SUPER CUTE on you!! ❤
Oh thank you , have a lovely weekend x
Lovely sweater button up.
Thank you x
It was great to see your stash video with the variety and it including acrylic. I've made 3 garments so far and the one that is the most comfortable for me is the one made with acrylic. I love knitting with soft yarn - be that merino, acrylic, other fibres- because I have sensitive skin. Right now what is in the budget for me is acrylic and your stash video reminded me that I like stylecraft yarn. It's made the idea of more garment knitting possible again.
Thank you for your videos - I'm new to your channel!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. Take care x
Hi Tina Whitmoor is beautiful. I use mainly Acrylic yarn for sweaters as it is much more affordable and hand dyed yarn for shawls and socks. Your Granny square blanket is looking very good too. Have a great week.
Take care

Thanks for sharing , happy knitting x
Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching and your comments. That's really interesting to know. I hope you are having a lovely weekend x
🤗 Hello Tina! Take care.❤
Hi thanks for watching x
I typically use acrylic because it's what I can afford. I love seeing you use more affordable mayerials.❤
Thank you, yes I like to use a mixture 😁
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely weekend x
Thank you, 3 podcasts you would love is Little workroom crafts, my yarny corner and mandy's makes , all use acrylic sometimes 😁
Thank you so much for watching and your comment. Have a lovely week x
I use both acrylic and natural fiber. I am a larger woman and just can’t afford not to use acrylic fiber for sweaters. And natural for the smaller items like socks and hats. Thank you for all your videos. You taught me how to knit!!! Thank you thank you
Thank you, I'm really happy the videos helped x
Nothing wrong with using yarn in your price point. However, if you are in the market for natural fiber, try Drops brand or even yarn in cones - excellent value.
I’m fairly new to knitting and I’m getting confident with the basics. Your tutorials are so helpful to me and you’ve given me the confidence to try making the vanilla socks 😊. I just need to get the right sized needles & I’ll get started. I like to use acrylic & natural fibres.
Thanks for all the great content ❤
Thanks for watching and good luck with your socks. Exciting times ahead for you 😁
Hi Tina, In the 80’s I remember knitting a really lovely mohair sweater that was all blocks of colour, I used to wear it as a coat.
Thanks for watching, me too, if it catches my eye , I'll take it home . Whatever it's made from . It's usually about the colour, that's my weakness 😁
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely week x
Another good video. I throw my socks in the machine on gentle and hang to dry after wearing them three times. Then hang to air in between that.
For all baby items I use acrylic, as well as for people who do not like anything scratchy.
Currently knitting some socks out of drops nord. I find it stretches a bit after knitting a previous pair with the same yarn si I just keep that in mind now adjusting my needle size or stitch count.
Love the sweater you are working on, you inspire me to try one of those.
Happy stitching 😉
Thank you, I've not noticed that about the Nord but I will bare it in mine x
I like Carleen Barker's comment that you taught her how to knit!! Lets not forget, you taught me how to knit socks!!! I love your videos, keep em coming!
Thank you 😊
I use acrylic yarn as well certain fibres can be itchy or scratchy so I use what is comfortable for me! Thank you for these tutorials because of you I was able to knit socks and top down sweaters!
Wonderful , I'm so happy the videos helped x
I love that you knit garments with acrylic, and use simple/free patterns. That is the knitting that appeals to me most, it feels fun, timeless, and accessible. I do occasionally get sucked into the indie sock yarn vortex on Etsy, but I can’t afford to make larger items from them and don’t have the lifestyle to support caring for garments made of high end yarns.
Thanks for watching, have a lovely weekend x
Hi Tina, I have a fair few hand knit socks and alternate a lot. Wear for a 4-5 days, then back in drawer for another pair. Then I do a big wash every few months.
I’m a wool gal!
I’m knitting the Aurora Cabin shawl at the mo and have everything on a tray, so it’s portable but the balls can all be kept in order, and it’s easier to carry the ends. I’ve just finished the section you’re on. Xx
I'm sure your yarn management is far better than mine 😁
Hi Tina, I love acrylic and Drops yarns. To be honest I can’t afford high end yarns and I knit because I enjoy it… I wouldn’t enjoy it if I was spending a fortune on it, I’d be too afraid to enjoy the process. Besides which I can’t abide snobbery in hobbies so I use whatever I can afford and be happy with x
Thanks for sharing , I really appreciate it. Have a lovely week x
Thanks for watching and happy sock knitting 😁
I love wool! I have knit with blends, wool, acrylic, alpha, etc etc. It's not in my budget to spend a ton on a sweaters quantity of expensive yarn but I have found wonderful yarns on clearance, overstocks and in many of the online yarn box stores too. There are destashes on etsy. It can be very fun to see what you can find! There's a place at the table for ALL!!
Well said, thank you for your comment x
Hi , I use both, depending on what I’m making. I love alpaca cause it’s so soft. But sock torn is wool and nylon mix. Baby clothes usually acrylic or a mix. And then a touch of luxury once in a while in a shawl or mittens, and an odd sweater .hope this helps. As you say, use what’s good for you, you’re the one paying for it and making it/wearing it ❤️x
Exactly, thanks for your comment. Have a lovely weekend x
Thanks!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel. It is really kind of you and very appreciated x
I knit and crochet using both, acrylic and wool yarns. It just depends on who and what I am knitting or crocheting. I wear my hand knitted sock twice before washing them. I love both your Whitmoor sweaters. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it x
This is why I love your podcast because, I am like you, middle of the road, I knit/crochet with acrylic and wool. I usually buy commercially produced yarns because they are in my budget. Thanks again for sharing and doing these videos, I really enjoy them.
Thank you so much, I'm so happy you enjoy the videos. Happy knitting x
Thank you so much for watching and your lovely comment. Take care x
HI Tina,,,,Enjoyed UR chats,,,
Sunday!!!
Used to use alot of argliic yarns,,,Now sometimes for blankets,,,Like style craft,,,for that,,,
and usually wash and air dry my socks everyday,,except my boot socks,,,They get washed once a week,,,
Love UR scrappy cro het blanket,,,
Elaine🏡🏡🏡
Thanks for watching, yes stylecraft is a go to for blankets 😁
All your knits are lovely 👍
Thank you! 😊
Hi Tina, I knit with acrylic only. I can not stand the prickeling. Acrylic only even if the whole world is natural, I knit with acrylic. Love your video's
Thanks for sharing 😁 Happy knitting x
Been knitting 60 odd years usually acrylic as wool itchy I love Aldi s yarn and have made lovely garments for £5
I was amazed at my Aldi cardigan, I love it 😁
@@Simplyinstitches I ve used dk and aran
Oh you did make me laugh!
I'm not so much inclined to throw my toys out the pram but I have zero patience for fiddly! I love that Knitted Animal Friends book but haven't the patience for knitting them. Same with that tiny frog everyone has made. I'd love one but not enough to make it!
For those five colours, I'm wrapping them into the icord edge. I won't "weaving Stephen them if I'm cutting them. I find it messes with my tension. I'm recording later, if I remember I'll show you x
Thanks Mandy , I think it's going well 🤓 xxx
Hi Tina I use both
Great , thanks for watching x
Hi, I wash my socks every 2 - 3 wears. I wash them by hand , get the excess moisture out with a towel and dry them on sock blockers.
So good to hear acrylic yarn being discussed. I use whatever I can afford and as much as I’d love to spend a small fortune on expensive yarns for a jumper, I just couldn’t justify it.
I tend to use 100% cotton for crochet and I’m already thinking about summer knitting projects I can use my cotton stash on.
Hope you have a good week and I’m already looking forward to your next vlog x
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Happy knitting x
Hi I love that’s you use acrylics and wool, one of my daughters can not wear any wool. So i make her items in acrylic x
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely weekend x
Love your channel. I watch you on my phone. Typically, it's cast to the TV while I sit and knit with a blanket and puppy on my lap and a streaming hot tea on the table. It's my favorite time of the day. You look fabulous on my 65 inch tv, btw.
I use acrylic and natural fibers depending on the project and who it is being made for.
I have only made 2 pairs of socks. I am excited to see the socks you make this year and try a couple more pairs.
Thank you for the content you provide. I am a visual learner and your tutorials kept me from throwing my toys from the pram.
Ha ha thank you so much x
I use acrylics as well. Great for people who will ignore your warning to hand wash and dry, lol.
Very true , thanks for watching. Happy knitting x
Thank you so much for your great comment. Well done for pulling out the deep 12 year stash 😁
I only wear my socks in my shoes.
I take them and let them air dry overnight and use the next day.
I enjoyed your poll and all your videos.
Thank you so much for watching and joining in. I really appreciate it. Take care x
😀💕xx thanks Tina. Your cardigan looks lovely on you. I used to knit baby blankets for a hospital and they would only accept acrylic so I was happy to oblige! Acrylic yarns have a very important place.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it. Happy knitting x
I use all kinds of yarn. I wash my socks every 2 wears. wash in machine lay to dry. Happy crafting. Patty
Me too 😁
I use both types of yarn. Acrylic for things that will need to be washed more often. My socks are all hand dyed wool. I just find that acrylic is very hard on my hands.
Thank you for watching and sharing, that's very interesting. Have a lovely week x
I use a mix of yarns. With hubby and me both retired and current climate with inflation that has tilted more to mostly acrylic yarns in last couple of years . I wash my socks about every 5 wears if just wearing around the house.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience. Have a lovely week x
You knit a very impressive array of items 😃 Have a lovely week x
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Happy knitting x
Hi Tina! First, I want to thank you for teaching me how to cut my own hair. I meant to thank you ever since that video long ago.
Second, I avoid too rustic itchy yarns and I don’t use acrylic as much any more, but it’s like you said a personal preference.
Have a lovely evening! ❤
Thank you, I'm glad the hair cutting was useful 😁
Hi Tina, I do use different wools, blended, I didn't vote about the socks as I don't knit any 🧦 socks,
Your cardigan looks lovely on you, I have been researching for wool to use, it's too hard here to get style craft, and it costs so much to order it from overseas, but I have narrowed it down to 3.
Thanks again for all your help on help, Sarah ❣️❣️
Yes it's hard to find what you like , you have to kiss some frogs to find your favourites to knit with 🐸😁
I like using red heart super saver yarn it is 100%acrylic I have been knitting the flax sweater with it i made my grand kids the sweater for Christmas I love your podcast
Thank you so much for watching. I hope you are having a lovely day x
Hi Tina. I always use acrylic yarns. Easier to wash and cheaper. I wash my socks after every use. Force of habit. Love yr knitting. Xx
Thanks for watching, lovely clean socks for you every day 😁
Hello Tina, I really enjoy watching your videos.
I wish we had Hobby Lobby they look amazing. They make our Hobbycraft look like tiny stores in comparison 😁
I think it may be illegal to only knit one Whitmoor. We all seem to knit at least 2 🤣 thanks for watching x
I'm so glad you're going to do some projects with acrylic yarn. I have several skeins, but not sure what to do with it.
Thanks for watching, yes lots to come 😁
I prefer natural fibers and luckily, even for bigger projects, there are companies around, like Drops, that make it doable. We enjoy your videos regardless of the yarn you use 😀
Regarding the socks.
Looking forward to your next video
🧦🧶🧵🪡
Thank you so much for your comments. I found it very respectful and honest . It's interesting you enjoy cotton so much for garments. I haven't had a lot of luck with cotton but hopefully this year will be the year I change that . I have cotton to make 3 tops ready to knit up 😁 . I hope you are having a lovely weekend
I wear socks a few days before they get washed. I don't knit - I crochet though and use cotton for amigurumi and acrylic for blankets (because they are Lucy of Attic 24 yarn packs). Love your sock and look forward to seeing it progress! Take care.
Thanks for sharing , Lucy makes amazing colour choices 😁
Welcome to the channel and thank you so much for taking the time to comment x
Hi Tina. I knit my socks using natural fibers, and wash them when they start to get baggy, using liquid soap in a washing machine; then place them on plastic sock forms and air dry them.
Thanks for sharing and for watching. Have a lovely week x
I could knit basic knit and purl but I watched u over learned the flax was and now with your tutorial I’m sock mad thank you Tina ❤
Wonderful, thank you x
Love that Whitmore sweater, I use affordable yarn, mixes and cottons depends on the time of year i am working an item
up for.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it. Have a lovely week x
Always enjoy your show, I use what I can afford at the time, after all knitting is to be enjoyed, either in the making or wearing.
So true , thanks for sharing x
You need to use your indi yarn it's to beautiful not to 😁 Happy knitting x
I started knitting in 2020 with We Are Knitters Yarn and I loved the feeling of the wool. I normally prefer 100% wool and natural fiber, not a big fun of a fluffy yarn. I am also on a budget so I try to be as sensible as possible when buying. Never tried acrylic yet but I have a few gift knitting planned and I think I will buy some as it is easier to maintain and clean for a no-knitter
Thanks for sharing and watching. Have a lovely week 😁
Excellent , you are going to have fun with that 😃
I look forward to our chats so much.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and good luck with your socks and sweater plans x
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it x
I find after 3-4 wearing they start to get baggy rather than smelly. I am the same as you on yarn I use a mixture, I used a 400g ball of aran from Aldi to knit my Dad's Christmas flax jumper, it was great. But last year I treated myself to a hand dyed jumper amount , the resulting jumper is gorgeous I love wearing it, but it is definitely a treat Drops is much more normal 😃
Thanks for sharing , happy knitting x
That's lovely that she is enjoying what you are knitting her 😃
I use both acrylic and fibre yarns. Just depends on what I am making. I can’t find the poll you mentioned. But then again this is me. So I confess I mustn’t be very nice to my socks. It 1 wear, 1 wash and not by hand. I put them in a linen bag and in the washing machine they go. Cold wash that is. Please don’t strike me down 😂
I throw mine in the wash . That's it's purpose in life , who am I to deny it by handwashing 🤣
Yes exactly, have a lovely weekend x
As we all should , thank you so much for your comment x
I use acrylic for blankets and some gift knits like for babies for their great wash and wear care. I agree the knit/crochet community is generally of the mindset of using the yarn that you like, made of whatever you want. I machine wash (on gentle cycle with cool water) my socks after 3-4 wears usually but I’ve gone as long as 7 wears with no issue. I think it helps to air out your socks between wears, even if it’s just overnight. In my experience, socks made with super-wash wool stretch out a bit so I knit socks a bit snug knowing they will stretch 10-30% depending on the yarn.
Thanks for sharing that. Have a lovely weekend x
You and me both . My mum knits but has used mostly acrylic and never socks 😊
I have a sock knitting tutorial playlist on my channel already 😁
I use acrylic for toys and home items, mainly. I will also use it for a gift knit if I am unsure how the recipient will care for the item. For myself, I prefer natural fibres. I am always warm and I find acrylic too hot to wear. I wouldn't be opposed to using it, otherwise.
Thanks for sharing , I really appreciate you spending time to comment. Take care x
Having come back to knitting/crochet after many many years I have gone for budget wools, (just in case it all goes horribly wrong!!) currently knitting a cardigan (free pattern) with King Cole big value Aran 100% acrylic and have been surprised how lovely it feels knitted!
Hi Sheila , I hope you are well. Good luck with your cardi. Yes yarn has come a long way over the past few years . Have a lovely weekend x
Thanks Dawn , the Whitmoor will get you eventually and then you will want another. I haven't seen one in a colour I haven't liked yet 😁😘
We all need days to be fancy 😁x
Hi Tina. I use whatever yarn I can afford. A good yarn sale helps with my yarn stash.
Oh yes we all love a yarn sale 😁
Did you have any problems with splitting for the sleeves I am doing the size small can you help me
Hi Tina, I wear my socks two or three times before I wash them, i use both acrylic and natural yarns.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and sharing you thoughts x
I use acrylic yarn for gift knits. I have sensitive skin and a lot of natural fibers irritate my skin. About the only natural fiber I can wear is Merino. Even the softest of yarns can irritate my skin. I wear my socks several times before washing. I think if I had odorous feet I would probably wash after each use. I generally just machine wash and dry in cold water with our everyday laundry soap.
Thank you for taking the time to comment x
Hello Tina, for my socks, I always use wool or cotton for summer. I wash them after every time I wear them because I wear them from bedtime to bedtime, so about 24 hours and after that, they need a wash. I enjoy knitting socks so when they do wear out, I always have some waiting. For my general knitting, I use a lot of acrylic but if the price is right will use natural fibers. I would love to use some of the fancier yarns that I see in tutorials, but right now, the budget is tight so I use what I can afford which in many cases, is just as pretty when crochet or knit up.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a lovely week x
I use mostly natural fibers, however do use acrylic for baby items. Your polls show up under the community tab on a non-mobile device like a laptop.
Thank you, I still have so much to learn how RUclips works 😁
fabulous video.
Thank you so much for watching and answering my questions. I'm glad you are enjoying your your crochet socks . Take care and happy crafting x
I wash my self-knitted socks by hand and let them dry flat every 5th to 6th wear. I knit socks with merino/wool/nylon mix yarn because my feet sweat and feel cold in inexpensive store-bought socks (ie: polyester, acrylic/etc). Lynda
Thanks Linda, have a lovely weekend x
I wash my socks after 2 or 3 wears too, as Heidi said below, they get bit saggy otherwise. I hand wash but rinse and spin in the machine, air dry.
All my socks are knitted in commercial yarn, although I have one special yarn that I will make socks with. I have to admit to having a stash of hand-dyed sock yarn which I have collected over the last few years, but I will use it for shawls and blankets. Most of my DK/aran is acrylic or blends. I most likely will move more to more natural fibre yarn in future, but it will still be commercial and affordable.
Thank you for answering my questions. That's really interesting and I'm glad you're enjoying all the yarn 😁
Hi can you do a Tutorial on this sweater? Please
No it's a paid for pattern. I would give out too much information 😊
Hi
I love your videos!
You have inspired me to make the Whitmore cardigan now, along with all my other wips!
Im going to use the drops lima also. How many balls did you use to make the longer version? Price here in canada is 5.95$- 6.50 dollars, so can be pricey! Mind you I have spent more shhhh😂
I would go for the meterage recommended + 100g extra but that's a guesstimate so the decision is yours 🤔🙂
I’ve been throwing my toys out of the pram! Started the Whitmoor sweater last week. I’ve had to take it back 3 times, seem to go wrong on round 7 every time. 🙈
Oh no! You can do this . Concentrate 🤣 Good luck x
Thank you so much for watching and your comments x
