I'd knit the purl soho striped blanket. It's contemporary and something a young mother would love to take around and use. Simple and so cute. You could do this with worsted weight yarn too so it would go faster. Knitting blankets is slower than crocheting! But worth it! As for sweaters I'd either go with the stripes or the tin can knits. Both are something a new mom would LOVE to use for her baby. Simple and easy. I have 13 grandkids and have knit lots of kid projects. Good luck!
I actually love the diagonal comfort blanket paired with chocolate sweater, they would look so sweet together, I always made a soaker along so it’s so cute, many bum covered free patterns, make it simple, it looks very smart together
Hi Tina. Loved seeing the patterns. My son got married a year ago and I may be needing some soon hopefully. Love that leaf 🍀 blanket. Could be used for oneself. Looking forward to seeing yr new starts. Take care. Xx
Yes I think I should have a leaf blanket. Apparently lace can trap little fingers so definitely for me , my sausage fingers are safe 😁 . Have a lovely weekend x
I have found that fingering weight garments for babies get the most wear! I think it's the whole light layers thing. I have knit many Flax Light (free) by Tin Can Knits and they have gotten lots of wear. Sunnyside Cardigan (free) by Tanis Lavalee is a nice option for a cardigan, you can choose between a lace motif or cables, and the button band is knit as you go (I don't like picking up stitches 😄). I recently made the Newborn Vertebrae for the first time for my own babe who is expected early April. I am working on a baby size Habitation Throw by Helen Stewart and have knit a DK version as a baby gift before. I have made a Garter Rib Blanket (free) by Orange Flower that turned out nicely. A few pairs of Newborn Socks (free) by Tabi Gandee. I recently made a pair of Baby Mitts (free) by Susan B Anderson, so I can't vouch for the sizing and stay-on-ability yet! The Garter Ear Flap Hat (free) by Purl Soho is very cute. I have knit a stuffy for a late spring baby before (Dino by Susan B Anderson). Fingering Entrechat (short sleeve shrug cardi, fingering weight) and Powder Blue (short sleeve cardi, worsted weight) by Frogginette are both very sweet for a baby girl. I aspire to try knitting some legwarmers, a bunting for the nursery, and washcloths for my own babe (as well as blankets, sweaters, tops, hats, socks, a stuffy 😅).
Have made the Fuss free cardigan twice. One in a solid and one in a stripped version. Lovely and easy to make! My daughter loved both. (note: I am not the most experienced knitter, lol.)
Hi Tina. You’ve taken me down memory lane with all these baby patterns!! I love them all but I think my favourite would be the Joyous cardigan. ❤ There’s something quirky about it that appeals. Happy knitting with whatever you choose 👶😃❤
Thank you, I'm not a baby fan but I enjoy the patterns . I knit my son some really fun things but not suitable for gift knitting. He did look super cute 😁 Take care x
According to Ellie from Craft House Magic, the Vertebrae is the perfect cardigan because it's easy to put on and doesn't get soiled as quickly as other cardigans or pullovers. The Blankets with holes are, according to (again, sorry) my local Children's Hospital, unsuitable for babies because the little fingers can get trapped. I don't have babies to knit for, so no first-hand advice on patterns. Hugs and good luck with the timing!
I think the Comfort Blanket and the Fuss Free cardigan would be really cute, especially in a variegated yarn, and would be easy knits when on a time constraint. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing. 🙂
Hi Tina. I always seem to be making baby things and only last week one of Jodie's friends announced they were pregnant. She would like me to knit some baby socks because shop bought ones just don't stay on. They are really quick to knit and look very sweet. I use the Baby Socks pattern by Kate Atherly (free). A car seat blanket with seat belt holes is another good one. I used the Chevron Love Car Seat Blanket by BreeAnna Laub. It's crochet but very easy. I also like to make a bucket bag using a project bag template but not adding a zip. I then pop in the socks, baby lotion, shampoo, etc and it can then be used to store nappies and wet wipes. I love the sheep cardi and the Gramps is very cute. Happy knitting. X
Hi Anita, you are a new mothers dream. You obviously put in a lot of time and thought into your gifts . I hadn't thought of socks . Thank you for sharing all your gems x
They're all lovely!! The leafy blanket could end up as an heirloom one. The tin can knits one is my favorite for the cardigan and you can accent with lots of different colors.
Hi Tina Love all the patterns you showed especially the leafy blanket but would knit it a lot larger than it says. Tin Can Knits do some beautiful blankets as well as cardigan/jumpers for little ones. Look forward to see what you choose in the end. Take care Amanda from Lincolnshire xxxx👶👶👶
Haven’t knit any of the baby sweaters, but I’m a Huge Garter Fan, so I’d pick “Joyous”. “Gramps” is absolutely adorable, &easy to modify if desired. The round, large variegated lace blan is gorgeous! I love the Purl Soho garter stripe blan, (you could stripe any way you’d like!), but I’m a Garter Fanatic. All the sweaters, blankets are beautiful. The designs & items you’ve created are gorgeous, I’m sure that no matter what you choose, New Mom will appreciate! Can’t wait to see what you make!
Tina I think the Bebe Chocolat cardigan would make a great gift I like the Vertebrae cardigan too (because baby does not dribble on the front as easily) but agree with you a better choice for a knitter... The blanket choice is whatever you enjoy knitting that is easy quick and easy care ENJOY
Great pattern ideas!!!have not knit any of these,,,!!! Like the purl soho blanket idea!,,! And vertebrae sweater,,,,, and the one u Louise til brook,, Elaine🏡🏡
🤗 I like the geo blanket and the vertebrae cardigan. The fuss free cardigan is also a very timeless piece. So many cute things! Ellie just showed on her channel the little old man cardigan her mother in law knitted -too cute! Take care.
I have knit the vertebrae many times for my new babies in my family. It is so loved, easy to put on and I make it a little longer so it covers the babies legs….I’ve made in all types of yarn cotton, acrylic and wool. Totally my go to for babies. And it’s quick.
I love Tin Can Knits patterns. My go to baby cardigan is a free pattern on Ravelry called Bug Warmer. I have done it several times in acrylic yarn. I look forward to seeing what you picked to make. As far as baby blankets, I make a basket weave that knits up quickly. Happy knitting!
I love the little coffee bean cardigan. It's so quick and easy, and it has raglan shaping. It's knit from the top down. I'm making three of them for my cousin and his wife, who are expecting their first child. For baby blankets, I have two books for baby blankets. I'm doing the Pinstripe Perfection from 60 Knit Baby Blankets.
Thank you for so many great videos! So many adorable blankets and sweaters! I made many Little V-Stitch Crocheted blankets for family and friends. It's quick and an easy crochet. I made the vertebrae not only in the baby sizes but one for me. I've also made The Gramps~so easy and quick and my grandson looked adorable wearing it.
Thanks for sharing the various items you are looking at. Leafy baby blanket is lovely but you have such a great idea about the sturdier ones (patterns ) mum putting down a blanket for baby in an easy wash yarn ,something to bring with her as needed depending on weather or environment (park) they are in . I do like your idea of a cardigan , ability to take on and off and put on as needed , carry it with her. I look forward to seeing what you decide.
Thanks Tina. What I'd love to see is suggestions for baby booties and hats! I'm going to try the Fuss Free pattern as I'm busy working on a baby sweater right now for a colleague using the Raglan Baby Cardigan which has very poorly written instructions. Fuss Free looks so much better. thanks!
I haven’t knitted any of these but have done loads of baby garments especially boys as I have two sons now 38 and40 but I love the little gramps cardi it’s very cute and think I will knit for next little boy
Yes they do, unfortunately after the last pattern I tried I've lost confidence in them . I will knit theirs again but I will check ravelry reviews first 😁
Some good finds. I am knitting a corner to corner using a huge 200 gram ball of wool. I shall see how far 50grams looks and then decide if to make one or 2 blankets. I knit for charity so I shall be donating it. I think the Bebe Chcocolate looks a good make simple and useful. I shall be adding some of them to my list. xx
The last baby knit I did was for a coworker . I made a simple 3 button cardi in a pastel on cream yarn and a fancy lace bonnet and simple booties . It was a girl I didn't make a blanket ran out of time. I've found buying buttons to go with yarn before making is a good idea. That way you can make the buttonholes to fit as you go . Much easier than try ing to find ones that match and fit after ! As for the blanket I've been told a smaller size is easier to fit in a car seat for infants. Also they now tell parents Not to have a jacket on baby in the car seat ! That means in really cold climates baby needs a warm sweater and several blankets in the car ! Additionally I've cotton and bamboo blend yarn in my stash for gifts in warm seasons or to a warm climate ! Sorry for long post I'm catching up 😂 I've heard nice things about Tin Can knits but haven't tried !Love Foxys knickers 😂
The patterns are all so cute! I have just finished knitting a little jacket type cardigan from Wool Warehouse, it is a paid for pattern but it is downloadable, it is Sirdar 5229 and I love the result. I starts as 0-6 months so maybe a good one for you to consider. Hope that helps Tina!
Great timing. My nephew and his wife have just announced a new baby arriving in August. I have my needles ready but I would like to know the sex. At the moment they are not saying, maybe they don’t know. I’ll wait a little longer before deciding on my knits. A blanket and cardigan is what I’m thinking about for the moment. I will be keeping a close eye on what you show. I have no idea what young mothers like to put their babies in. It was all white when I had mine and even when my son had his children. I dare not do that today 🤔❤
My friend said her daughter wants blues and grey. I'm not keen on grey , not very cheerful but I'll mix it with blue . My son was born in 1992 , plenty of colour then 😁
Thankyou so much for getting back to me but I have a question I can't find your bay city rollers socks on your channel please help and I see a few are missing be blessed
Yes I've spoken about this on my latest video . That sock pattern isn't available anymore so there isn't a pattern to follow. The way I do my shortie socks now is to cast on 64 stitches ( UK size 6 ) knit 12 rounds , it will naturally curl . Start the heel for the vanilla sock tutorial and carry on the same as vanilla sock . I hope this helps.
Ok I think I got the socks right so far but I got a question did you turn it in side out for the cuff to be facing down thankyou so much for all your help please be blessed.
I'm in a similar position and want to knit a summer weight cardy the problem is the parents don't know the gender (and don't want to know) so which way do I cross the front over? I found a pattern in an old magazine that has just one button at the top so maybe I could get away with no button at all. I like the idea of a floor blanket for baby to roll around on so thanks for the suggestions. There are a few you have mentioned that look suitable - particularly the round one. Hi yes sorry I've set them as private. Main reason is because it's hard to answer questions after so long after I've knit the pattern . Some of my videos are over 5 years old . I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday 😁
I personally wouldn’t do a blanket for a baby as they take quite a long time and they can be a pain to look after. I would do a superwash cardigan or bonnet.
I'm using Stylecraft Special acrylic Aran weight for the lap blanket . Yes it would be a pain in wool but I wanted it to be used on the move so chose easy machine wash . The same with the cardigan 😁 Thanks for watching x
Never feel guilty knitting for just yourself. People have no idea how many hours go into a project. I knitted my sister in law a cowl / scarf. It took me 5+ hrs to knit before blocking. She said I could sell them because they were so nice! I told her the yarn alone was $15.00 + tax. She said Oh she had no idea. 💡
I love the little boy’s chocolate brown sweater you showed ❤
It's cute, isn't it 😁 thanks for watching x

Thank you for your wise words . You certainly know what you're talking about with 13 grandchildren 😀
Thank you for all the ideas! I have a 1 year old nephew and really needed some inspiration!
I have started the fuss free cardigan. It was recommended by a lot of knitters as their go to and very versatile. Happy knitting x
I like the no fuss cardigan
Me too , thanks for watching 😁
I thought the bebe chocolate is really cute, with or without sheep. Fun video, can’t wait to see which one you decide to knit 😊.
Thank you 😊 have a lovely weekend x
Thanks Tina - very helpful. I was looking for a little cardigan pattern and I think the Bebe Chocolat fits the bill perfectly!
Glad it was helpful . Happy knitting x
I love the Bebe Chocolat one. It’s a neat little cardigan with a good neckline and only the three buttons. And I like the garter diagonal blanket.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts x
I actually love the diagonal comfort blanket paired with chocolate sweater, they would look so sweet together, I always made a soaker along so it’s so cute, many bum covered free patterns, make it simple, it looks very smart together

I love the Joyous - that would be a good quick option in do x😂

I love Tin Can Knits patterns. My go to baby cardigan is a free pattern on Ravelry called Bug Warmer. I have done it several times in acrylic yarn.
I look forward to seeing what you picked to make.
As far as baby blankets, I make a basket weave that knits up quickly.

I like the Joyous pattern, it's simple but pretty. I really like the leaf blanket. I look forward to seeing what you decide to knit.🤗

Drops Nord have cute free baby knits. I made the Fox hat, super cute.
That sounds adorable 😀
I am knitting the Joyous baby cardigan, I am using a light weight DK baby yarn
That's going to be lovely, happy knitting 😀

Yes they do, unfortunately after the last pattern I tried I've lost confidence in them . I will knit theirs again but I will check ravelry reviews first 😁
Love your sweater and the colosr look great .
Thank you so much x
I have knit the newborn vertebrae several times. I have also used sport & DK weight (US dk) to make the newborn size bigger.
Thanks , that's very interesting . Great idea 😀
I love that sweater you're wearing. At first I thought it was TCK Clayoquat, but maybe not?
No it's the Flax , I knit it with Drops Melody and played with colours 😀
@@Simplyinstitches It's gorgeous.
