  • Hello!
Welcome to Edible Thoughts Makes. My name is Stephanie (she/her/hers). Will I manage to share 12 of my go-to gift knitting patterns in less than 30 minutes while still coherently conveying information that's relevant and useful??? I hope so! If I were to rate these patterns on difficulty, I would consider these beginner-friendly patterns.
    Timestamps of the patterns/projects sections:

    [11:22] Neck Accessories
    [16:14] Hands
    [19:48] Socks

Wow, congrats on 137 comments on this extra episode. This is a great one for ideas for gift knitting. I forgot to comment in episode 117, love, love those cute leg warmers. They make me think of ice cream, especially spumoni. So cute! I've made the bandana cowl and Musselburgh each once. I want to make them for myself as they were for others.

One of my new favorite cowl patterns is the calluna cowl by lamb and kid, and it's free! Super easy lace design and it's actually pretty quick! It's a great pattern to take on the go because it's an easily memorized 4 row repeat.

I so appreciate this list of gift knits especially since you have made them! Jason's Cashmere Hat (free) by Melissa Thomson is one of my go-to hat patterns. I also like Red Rover fingerless mitts by Carlie Perrins since they have a fun pattern with purl stitches so easy to follow. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! It’s important to me that if I’m going to suggest a pattern that I can actually vouch for it. Plus, I really wanted to showcase how a pattern can really be a blank canvas that we as knitters bring to life in color with our yarn choices. Thank you for sharing your go-to patterns - I hope others are reading the comments for ideas! Take care ❤️

Great ideas. I have saved many of them in Ravelry now, thanks to you. I love using the LOSY hat pattern for using up sock yarn as you hold 2 strands together and it makes for fun hats. Great for gifts or to make some for the homeless.

I haven’t really done much gift knitting in the past but this Christmas I knit the Coudburst mitts, the Semplice Mitts, and a Musselburgh hat (my fourth and I still don’t have one for myself!). I started a two by two hat which I think could be a great gift knit and found the Pioneer gloves a little to late for a Christmas gift but will make them for myself soon. They look like a great gift knit as well

Thank you for sharing! I tend to do a lot of gift knitting for my family, including grandchildren and son-in-laws. The Musselburgh hat is my favorite hat to knit for gifts (you definitely need a warm hat in MN). I also knit a lot of socks, usually in fingering weight; using my vanilla sock recipe, and changing the ribbing or the pattern depending on the yarn or my mood. In the past year, I’ve knit several pairs of color-work socks; including the Herding Cats sock pattern and the Fletching socks.
Mittens and Sweaters are other items that I knit for gifts often, usually knitting the World’s Simplest Mittens, the Classic Cardigan, the Antler Cardigan, and the Flax Sweater, all by Tin Can Knits.
    Thank you, again!

Love all the examples. Wish I had more than one pair of hands to knit lots of these! Especially love the tube hat - not made one before and can think of lots of family and friends to knit that for. I'm currently knitting Dickie neck warmers for my toddler grandson - v easy to get and off him and perfect under a jacket for winter at his outdoor nursery.

I have almost all of these patterns myself, and it’s nice to see someone else’s take on a similar (or same) pattern !! I’ve made Blueberry Waffle socks many times…it’s so much fun to knit, I can’t stop!😊
    Ribbing is a sizing/fit lifesaver!

Love these go-to gift knit suggestions, Stephanie, thank you for sharing!! I will be sure to try some! I like to gift the Bandit Cowl, pattern by Clinton Hill Cashmere, (I’ll use washable hobby store yarns😄), World's Simplest Mittens, and a modified version of the Cozy Cuffs, free pattern by The Lamb & Kid. I also like the Baby Sophisticate cardigan pattern for children gift knitting. And of course I’ve knit or crocheted a million baby blankets throughout the years, in various stitch patterns! Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday! 🍁🍂🍂🧡💛

Thanks for the ideas Stephanie...I have added some more things to my queue 😉 I love the Purl Soho bandana cowl; you inspired me previously to try that and I have made two using the Breton stripes version, just swapped the colors between 2 balls for each one. So fast that I made one in a day! That's a first for me. And you know, I AM going to gift knit for me for my stocking...if I start soon enough, I will have forgotten by Christmas 😂

I'm loving this compilation, and seeing your projects with the patterns! I was gift-knitting as I was watching -- I'm trying the watch cap hat from Purl Soho. My favorite go to is Tori Yu's Manhattan Hat, it's easy and has what I feel like is a fashionable decrease shape, for the fashionable friends in my life. I usually try new patterns for gift knits, just for fun and exploration, and I try to pick patterns that look like RTW.

I have found that my favorite combo is holding 2 strands of Knitpicks Palette either two of the same color, or marling 2 different colors. It's such an affordable yarn and quick knit. Absolutely! For me personally, I wouldn't be gift knitting to anyone I didn't know well enough to know if they can or cannot wear wool. Plus, there are many other reasons for knitting with other fibers as well - they all can fulfill different functions/purposes.
