Your tenacity is inspiring. You have a generator, why not a small compressor and a nail gun? Would speed nailing up quite a bit. As to wood stove, I would think that would be dependent on your space plan for the upstairs. The corner by the stairs would be my first choice. As you will be hauling wood up those stairs for that stove. If you put the stove on the opposite end of the stairs, then a mud/dirt/wood debris trail from the stairs to the wood pile would develop. Most 'off the Griders', like to put their wood stove near the door where they haul in the wood. To reduce the dirt trail.
