I'm an Aussie and agree. They milk every point out of the smoothness of Ethan which could be fair. But then there is nothing for gabby's smoothness. If anything they seem to have docked points from him somewhere especially on the first few waves. They only common dominator is giving buzzer beaters, which is a really bad precedent to falsely give buzzer beaters... this is leading the sport down a really stupid road.

Guess the only thing is are Cole's hits bigger than Gabe's, to justify the slight point difference? If you watch Cole's waves a few times he really is hitting the pocket almost flawlessly and throwing buckets, where Gabe's turns often aren't as full, even though his style is seamless. Even if Cole matches Gabe's score here he still wins, not as much in it as everyone seems to think.

There were judges giving Coles last wave a 7.8 and 7.7. Anyways I believe there should be improvements like each judge having access only to his own scores wearing noise cancelling headsets and not knowing at the end of the heat how much overall a surfer needs to win. To the judges, please don't let our sport lose its charm. be honest, for the sports fans. Do not try to benefit your favorite athletes or athletes from your countries. All athletes certainly work very hard to be there and be targets of “unjust” criminal trials, just let the best come, regardless of what country they are from. For the love of sport!
