They score you on maneuvers completed. So falling isn’t necessarily going to result in a lower score. Gabe’s 7.17 was two turns that were solid but not as critical as the two turns that Griff stuck on his 7.6. That said, I would have given Griff a marginally lower score for that but still a higher score than. 7.17.
Gabe’s final wave was strong but, again, nothing super critical. He was left clicking turns and chasing the wave more than he was able to throw anything big at it. And his last two turns on that wave were marginal.
After rewatching the heat a few times I think it could have gone either way, IMO.

I’m convinced the judges for the WSL is all trash.Colapinto got a seven on an uncompletedwave. And Medina threw a heavy turn, and above the lip float.A throw tail reverse, and one last hit to complete the wave and he only got .10 more than Colapintos incomplete.WSL is destroying the soul of surfing and not giving the respect due to great surfers.I seen them do that to JJF in his beginning heats.Consistent bias judging will only discourage surfers from surfing to their full ability. And seems to me the push for the WSL is to get another American World Champ.Which hasn’t been done since Kelly Slater.I hope sponsors aren’t tarnishing the sport I love with predicted outcomes based on marketing and profitability.

so the shape and size of medinas wave was better but it could be argued that both of Griffins turns got proper fin release and were more vertical with more turn eg the nose of the board is at or closer to "12 o clock" at the start of the turn and finishes at or close to "6 o clock", the turn gabe did at the start was on a bit of a bigger wave but could be argued was less extreme, almost like a check turn though still in a critical part of the wave he definitely is not doing a 12 - 6 kinda turn, and the second can be argued as being less extreme or critical as a floater though it was still sick. And a forced mini air reverse at the end wouldnt add a lot.

Alright, lets point out some things:
Griffin is a beast, he is one of the best surfers and we all know his time is close to getting his WSL championship. With that being said, he did the best he could with the waves he got, there's no need to disrespect or comment on his stuff about WSL judgment. He is a pro athlete but he is a human being just the like the rest of us. So treat him respectfully.
I am not a Pro surfer by any means or judge to come here with technical comments and try make myself look fancy and shit but this is the best possible case scenario for a "judgment review" by WSL ( I have no clue how they go about that) the judges should be held accountable for their actions, just like any other job, and specially when its a subjective sport.
Again, I am not a pro surfer, but Griffin did 3 turns and FELL to complete his last maneuver (7.67).
On the other hand, Gabe surfed a bigger wave, 4 maneuvers, all of them different with their level of "risk", and completed his wave (7.77).
How in God's green Earth did he get .10 points better than the wave surfed by Colapinto? like, is there is ANY possible explanation?
When it comes to surfing the best I can do is the bare minimum, but even my 10-year nephew would be able to understand that Gabe's wave was way better, and not just .10 better than Griffins.
That is just ridiculous, this for real should be investigated, is there anything going on? because if this was any other non-subjective sport, this would be investigated for idk gambling, bets, whatever.
Again, this is not Griffin's fault, he should not be bothered AT ALL about this. This is a WSL issue and we should keep it that way.
Gabe's face walking out of the beach said everything.
This is a shame for the surf community.
