Bells Beach on Victoria’s South Coast is the longest-running surfing competition and will host the 61st edition this year. With the hope of scoring long-period, groomed walls, the surfers will need to display the perfect combination of power, precision, and timing. The biggest surfing legends have had the honor of winning and ringing ‘The Bell’ and 2024 will see a new generation vying for the opportunity to cement their names in one of surfing’s most prestigious events.

Griffin definitely won, but Rio got underscored
Think its more like Griff got overscored a point on these waves, the first 8 compared Rio's 6 doesn't make any sense at all, that exchange was much closer, Griff definitely had the edge but this heat should have been a lot closer.

Griff definitely won, but a great example of when one of these guys needs to sit down with the coach and judges to go through the reasoning for the low score on what looked like a much better ride than the score he got.
Rio will have to ask to figure what he has to do.
I hope they do or did sit down with the judges and have them explain their scoring on that wave!

I think that if the commentators were not employed by the WSL therefore not afraid of calling out bad scores then the judging would improve in time.
They are great commentators but too scared to call a bad score a bad score. No other live sports have commentators employed by the governing body that I know of

Rio was competing against the San Clemente factor (whom ever the San Clemente surfer is, add 2 points) . Last year Felipe was the golden boy, now it's the new SC crew.

i think griffin 1st wave should have been a 10pts ride and his 2nd a 12.50pts at least. this kid has been ripping this english onshore 2ft beachbreak ! wow can't wait for the next events ! why going to Indo, Jbay, or hossegor in the right season when we can score so many 2/3footers onshore waves?? It's like watching some actions at my local beach in random spring time afternoon after a 2weeks flat forecast ! love it keept it up

Watching every round of the WSL on RUclips (which is awesome, thank you) and generally being a positive person, I'm afraid, in my humble opinion, I get the feeling the WSL is finally going the way of other sports... even the commentators' language, in all events this year, feels like it is an indicator of a pre-programned outcome..bigging up specific riders while diminishing others... It's truly sad that if true, money is now affecting the outcomes of the one sport I never thought it would... and with the greatest respect, to all the organisers, commentators, riders, and fellow ocean lovers... I hope that I'm misreading all this and I'm wrong. Just doesn't feel this way....
Griffins’s 7.33 was MUCH better than his 8 point ride. And Rio’s 7.60 was so underscored

I had, Griff to win before the heat! Big fun crumble San Clemente Shredder's at The Iconic Bell's Beach! Griff's progressive smooth flowing attack guaranteed! Griffin delivered man, Totally, Awesome flash performance with very little smash first couple waves.
Waida totally ripped! The wow factor was in from the start! Speed section 3 banging foam climbs, with rhythm & tempo for starters. Just saying that Rio Totally Ripped with rail progression and generated alot of power, He made holes in today's waves.

Griff clearly won with his power, flow and control; also his wave selection was better. Rio just looks a bit weak; Arms flailing and fins sliding a bit too much… maybe his board needs a few more liters. Probably he just needs to mature a bit more. All n all this is the best surfing I’ve see from him so far.

Colapinto won the heat but Rio got underscored.
Rio fitted in the moves on his come-back wave but the in between flow definitely lacked. Way not as seamless with Cola, who had the moves too.
