    There's a theory that Kyrie intentionally acted like this in front of Eva in the duel, to trigger the reversed psychology thinking and making Eva care about Ange in case if she'll lose. Chessboard thinking, you know?

    35:05 what Will tells here is that the first victim, Shannon and the last victim, Kanon, are basiclly the same person, that's why the first and last rooms of the close loop murders "overlap". So in theory non of the Ushiromiya Family members truly ever saw Shannon and Kanon at the same time, probably it was just Sayo/Lion talking to herself/himself while playing as either Shannon or Kanon and the only ones that truly never saw Shannon and Kanon at the same time were the ones playing detectives, Battler and Will. So the answer to the loop killings is that Sayo/Lion played dead both as Shannon and Kanon, since Shannon was the first "corpse" found and Kanon the last one it would give time to Sayo to change from Shannon to Kanon and play death as both while the family found the other four corpses. So in theory everytime we see Shannon and Kanon die, or we are told one of them or both are dead, is just Sayo/Lion faking to be death in order to have an alibi to commit the murders.

      @@gamerx1133 oh I phrased that poorly. I meant that when playing umineko, the clock sort of serves as a way to indicate the end of a scene. You see it getting larger as it gets closer to midnight. As a reader, I sort of took it as a way to bridge scenes together and tell the reader that we are transitioning. However, as you see in ep 7, the clock actually has a huge significance as it is connected to the bombs and that the clock is both a way to bridge scenes, but it is also basically in your face telling you that we are getting closer to the explosion. Hopefully that made sense

      It really mind boggles me just how many people completely missed the point of Episode 8. I can understand feeling some negative emotions after Episode 7 with its rolecoaster of twists, but how in the world is it even possible to get through the last ten-fifteen hours of Umineko and still complain? The game *literally* beats you over with its message with zero subtlety - it is impossible to miss if you have even half of a working brain. So many blind goats, man, so many blind goats... The Confessions of the Golden Witch (or whatever it's called) is a fucking travesty that never should have existed in the first place, and I dislike Ryukishi a tiny bit for caving in to the will of the dumb masses.
      (Just to clarify, I have nothing against you personally for simply recommending the Confessions. This is more of a general response, because I will never stop being butthurt over the Episode 8 manga)

    • @leatherfasesin7717
      @leatherfasesin7717 2 года назад +13

      @@pluubooruu It is quite the opposite, actually. I absolutely adore Erika and consider her to be one of the most important characters in Umineko in terms of its themes on par with Ange, more so than even Battler or Beatrice. She is a very deliberate and not-so-subtle critique of those readers who completely disregard magic side of the story in favour of mystery, ignoring "the heart" in their search for The Single Truth.
      Erika is a perfect antithesis to the themes of the story (note how she is the only character in the game who has a rebuttal to the "without love it cannot be seen" with her "because of love we see things that aren't actually there") and also a very important lesson from Ryukishi. She is specifically written in such a way to make you hate her, and that hate should motivate you to not be like her. To reject her heartless reasoning that values only cold facts, and consider feelings and emotions of various characters. To strive to understand your opponent instead of blindly crushing them just because they oppose you. To search a different kind of truth - one that doesn't ignore "the heart".
      Erika fulfills her role perfectly, and because of this - surprise, surprise - she is my favorite character in all of Umineko. But there is a huge difference between her and the Confession of The Golden Witch. The former falls in line with the message of the story, serving as its anthithesis, while the latter goes completely against it because some dumb people didn't learn how to read properly. Opening the cat box is a big taboo - there is a good fucking reason why the visual novel never does this, even when you heartlessly reject what it has been trying to teach you for the last sixteen hours. This was a deliberate choice by the writers, and the fact that they went against their own correct decision because of stupid complaints from the readers annoys me to no end.

    Kanon was the key to the whole mystery. Only once you make the connection do the pieces start to fall in place.
    Unfortunately, I misunderstood that line as part of Shannon's delusions of Kanon's arrival. I didn't even know I was supposed to take that line literally until after I looked up the spoilers post ep 8.
    Re-reading this will be fruitful, since I can already see there were hundreds of hints and easter eggs littered absolutely everywhere.

    There's that scene with Rosa versus the goat demons.
    There are probably more but they don't come to my mind right now. ^^;

It sounds like you got very very close, but judging by your answers to the question arcs it appears you may be just short. Do you want a hint? It's as critical to the mystery as Kinzo's death, so I think it's worth knowing at this point.

      @@TheAugustHail First of all so sorry for the late reply, RUclips doesn't notify me when someone responds to my comment for some reason lol. I rewatched the video to make sure I can respond properly.
      As @pluubooruu mentioned, you basically got it correct at 27:00. The only bit I was unsure if you got comes from you referring to Kanon as an "illusion". Illusion usually refers to something spun up from the witch's reading of the tale, but as the detective is obligated to have an objective point of view they will not see this illusions. In all games with a detective, Battler in 1-4 and Erika in 5, Shannon is seen by the detective and Kanon is seen by the detective. Even if both aren't seen at the same time. So at times Kanon is an illusion as you suspect, but at times there is a physical Kanon. What I'm getting at is also why people were able to see Beatrice in games 2 and 4. (Remember Battler the piece does talk to her.)
      Sorry if I"m being confusing.

    You're pretty close with your theories, but I would like to add two particular thoughts for you to consider. One has already been brought up; that is, that Shannon and Kanon are never witnessed together. Kanon is witnessed, and Shannon is witnessed, but they never occupy the same space. The second is the way Will exposes the truth in each twilight. When he says illusions to illusions, he's saying that there's an inherent falsehood in the murder. For instance, when addressing Kinzo's burned corpse in episode one, he says that. However, he also says earth to earth. This refers to crimes that, aside from odd storytelling, are presented in a way that makes sense. For instance, he uses this when talking about the murders in Natsuhi's room in the second arc. All the people in the room are dead; it's true, despite any claims of magic or any creative liberties taken in portraying their deaths. When he uses both together, he's referring to events that did happen, but were obscured by the storytelling and Beatrice's objective to make it seem like magic was real the whole time. When talking about most of arc 4, he says this, which is to mean that these people were brutally murdered, just that the way it was presented was inherently wrong. Also, keep in mind the red truths concerning who's alive at the end of every arc. In many of these theories I see that you claim the killer played dead, however the red truth proclaims at multiple intervals exactly who is alive on the island currently, especially in the fourth arc, where it's explicitly stated that Battler is all alone on the island. You seem to have ruled out the possibility of the killer killing themselves, and that's a mistake because we're shown here that the killer gave themselves up to fate entirely. If they needed to end their own life to preserve the mystery, so be it.

    • @wolfywonder8480
      @wolfywonder8480 2 года назад

      Also! When Bernkastel proclaimed in red "This is all the truth" she was cut off. In order for that statement to be said in red (and what she intended to say) it was supposed to be "This is all the truth of a sort."

    I couldnt really understand who is the culprit and what the reason for that. (i regret reading all the answers for who and how dunnit, if you do care about umineko, just try thinking as much as possible). My best theory for that is if Yasu became witch then she couldn't exist in first place and here's Shannon or Sayo + Yasuda left as the real-world human. But here's also Kanon who was the "gift from Yasu-witch". It might've been just another metaphor or a real event where he existed as real human. His case is harder for me tbh. But there's a big chance that I wouldn't understand both of cases by myself lol. Maybe there's not enough love in me :)

    Wait, is that . . . I think I understand now how the deaths can be illusions. . . Spoilers, but only for the tea party of this episode.
    So as we know, without moderately large bombs, it cannot be seen. But something interesting happens in the tea party. Kyrie says that, right now, she can hear the cousins laughing upstairs, and that an observer wouldn't understand that statement. Only one inside this cat box could understand.
    Magic has to match a result. As long as the result can be met, you can dress up the truth with any illusion you want. So, if the truth of the cat box is that "when the seagulls cry, none are left alive," (ignoring Eva for the sake of not having an explanation for that specifically) then since they are dead by 24:00 on October 5th, they can be killed at any point within this cat box. So the crimes themselves can be illusions, and even Yasu can die before the tenth twilight, but the result would still match. So in the witch's game, magic can embellish that result to look like a bunch of closed room murders. This is probably the answer, I think, to how most of the twilights can be illusions, according to Will.

    Lion is a girl with turner syndrome, who got proper medical care but still has some puberty issues. Sayo didn't get the help throughout her growth and had worse hormonal issues.
    Turner syndrome delays puberty to your twenties (Sayo is only 19), happens only to women and is more prevalent in case of incest. Which this case clearly is. Nanjo a japanese doctor. Even now, the trans issue is controversial in japan. He's a japanese doctor in the 60s. Performing a sex reassignment surgery on a baby is definitely not something within his skill set.
    I find it very unlikely for a family physician to know of the proper procedure (a vaginoplasty), apply it on a near death baby and getting it magically right. That would be an even bigger miracle than baby Sayo surviving the fall off a cliff. A vaginoplasty also requires some medical maintenance over time which of course wasn't given. Therefore, the idea that the baby from 19 years ago aka Sayo being a biological boy kinda falls flat. The idea of Sayo developing the idea of she being "furniture" is likely due to having received the news that she couldn't have children, when she had plans to start a family with George.
    Also, she also because of the aforementioned turner syndrome and puberty delays, Sayo developed some gender dysphoria and thought that crossdressing as a guy was a good idea, which she ended kinda discarding the idea of love with Jessica since her strongest identity was always Shannon, the development with George was much stronger and the fact that she didn't feel comfortable with Jessica as proven in nearly every interaction between Kanon and Jessica that doesn't involve magic.

      @@MrBernkastel2 I didn't call those people dumb because they wanted concrete answers. I called them dumb because they completely missed the point of Episode 8.
      Umineko, like any good story, has a certain lesson that it wants to teach to its readers. You can either agree or disagree with this lesson depending on your own personal views, but you *do not* get to complain about it. "I disagree with it" does not equal "this is bad" - sorry for stating the obvious. If the message was successfully delivered (which it was) and the story itself supports this message (which it does), then this particular work of fiction did its job well. The rest is up for debate, but this much is certain. So, no matter whether you accept or reject the moral lesson of Episode 8, saying that "this Episode sucked" even though it perfectly followed up on all of Umineko's major themes is kinda dumb, not gonna lie.
      I don't really know the exact reactions the fans had at the time of the VN's original release, so calling them stupid might be a bit unfair on my part, I admit. However, I was mostly talking about more "modern" fans: the people who think that manga-version is better simply because it straight up tells you the answer, totally ignoring the thematical clusterfuck this creates. Those who *only* care about knowing the truth, disregarding the "heart"; for whom nothing else matters.
