Have the 228kw Sportstourer 4drive version in Europe. Only three weeks I had this car, but I already love it, probably best price/performance car currently out there - and there really is some performance. Practical as well, especially with the back seats down. So far so good, I must really recommend it. Some say it likes to drink fuel, but it actually is not that bad considering what that engine can do. As for the infotainment - this seems to be the problem with all the reviewers who only drive the car for a few days (and it was for me when I tested it as well to be honest), but, in all honesty, who really fiddles with their cabin temps all day long? I just leave it at whatever is comfortable and put it on auto. If you want to defrost the windows, for example, there is a shortcut button near the steering wheel where the light controls are, no need to go in the infotainment. And - the infotainment for most people will still be on Android Auto or Apple Carplay anyway (which switches on automatically after you've connected it), so no use of extra buttons. Thus, it is irrelevant and does not impact everyday practicality at all. The wireless charger is almost useless though. You will get some 10-15% charge and then the phone will overheat. Not worth clicking that box.
More wagons are needed! So much better than SUVs! More space and better handling. Please let Cupra know to get rid of the stupid non-backlit touch buttons for the aircon! At night you can't see a damn thing when trying to adjust the temp. Tactile buttons are needed for that function to reduce driver distraction. Cupra sales reps here in Aus have said to me it's a very common complaint, so more whinging might bring change. *EDIT: never mind, got to 4:52 and that newer version looks promising!
Space at the back ✓, Fancy and looks comfortable at the front seat ✓. Sexy looking Avant, Wagon, sports wagon, whatever wagon ✓. Bring it down here (land of Oz), please.
I'm surprised you didn't come to NZ to drive one Paul, they are sold new here in RHD and we get the 228kw AWD version too. Not a big fan of the matte paint though.
These estate/wagon models are pretty popular here in the UK and in Europe and the Formentor with the 5 cylinders is only available in some European countries we don't get that in the UK just the overpriced RSQ3
4:31 I have a Cupra Leon. You can literally just touch above where the symbols are to change the temp or the volume. Completely acknowledge the lack of back lighting is annoying, but I won’t cop the silly reporting about “only swipe can change the volume/temp”.
The swipe bar was a total turn off for me. Remembering this horrible idea from the mac, with a centralized control device for many features... its just absolutely terrible and should never be done again. I was serious looking at this car. But when I saw that I was put off so much. yuck yuck yuck.
Paul, you are among the very best automotive journalists to present automotive news. Very good language and interesting to see your tests. I myself am from Norway, but I see Swedish car tests, German, UK and those from the USA, actually also some from the Netherlands, i.e. the best in the world, as the case may be. Keep up your good work. Why I also follow you is that you Aussies are good with 4X4.
Haha, soon, the way the power companies are charging per kWh, it'll be cheaper to run fossil fuels and go to the Bowser other than connect one to a power socket, "how scary is that"?😮 Just a niggle (serious one) at power prices here in Aus.
wagon all the way...more km/l and more fun to drive than SUVs
Definitely bring it to Australia 🇦🇺 I’d definitely buy one I love an estate car 😊
Definitely love a wagon but can we get some real buttons on the steering wheel and a proper volume/temp knob
Mine is arriving next week after a 22 month wait (UK) 😬🤞🤞
Please bring this wagon to Australia…. With the RS3 engine would be wild
I wish they could bring the 1.5 turbo version since the regular Golf wagon has gone.
If they had this in Australia we wouldn’t have had to get rid of our Leon VZX hatch. Big disservice not having it here already.
Yep, I'm interested in the sport tourer, seems to have a little more space than the Golf R Wagon and faster than the Passat R line so would suit me

Yes please!!!! I would buy one. Upgrade from my Skoda vRS.

Great review, and surely this quality channel isn't reviewing vehicles that 'may' be coming to Aus.... Just saying 😉

personally I really like Wagon, it could be height lower than SUV view. Definitely will try test drive with PHEV mode in SYD.
So is this wagon coming to Australia in right hand drive
The r type version
Will definitely be looking at getting one in late 2024 if it makes it here to Oz.
Hi Paul, Can you please review the new Honda CR-V 1.5T AWD.
Matrix LED's should really be standard on the VZ and above. The Octavia RS gets them standard for less money.
I would probably prefer a Skoda Octavia PHEV, but will strongly consider picking this up instead, 🤞 Cupra bring it!
Same, prefer the skoda practicality more, but we'll need get PHeV skoda :(
I would like something to replace my Manual GTI Polo
I love your stuff, but you have never reviewed a pogo stick.
They really need to ditch that shitty all-touch interface, it's literally the only thing I don't like about this
Finally a compelling replacement for my Octavia RS!
CarExpert Paul maric be very good go to Australia 2024 cupra Leon sportstourer wogan people like car old pensioners wogan
Can you please review the SsangYong Korando?
These estate/wagon models are pretty popular here in the UK and in Europe and the Formentor with the 5 cylinders is only available in some European countries we don't get that in the UK just the overpriced RSQ3
Oh boy please bring this down under!
Dont let the wagon die !!!
Puts the sexy back into practicality. Hope we get the European top spec ultra powerful version. I’d big one. Thank you Spain xxx
Buy one that is 😅
Not bad at all, looks expensive though...
Very cool looking
It really does look (as Paul would say) "sensational "
Wagonnn!! I have the regular Seat Leon ST, love the big boot!!
Wagons are far better options over SUV's. Particularly when considering what the majority of suv owners use their car for...
Bring on the wagon!
Hell yeah. Bring back the wagon!!!
Love the styling
Would love to have one.
If this is reasonably priced, will likely swap my WRX for one of these. Looks fantastic!
Feeling the same, except I’ve already gotten rid of my Hawkeye wagon some years ago and I miss it. Perhaps this is the spiritual successor…

VZ5 is the beast
Looks amazing - love the Cupra design flair and a wagon/estate will sell well 🎯🙏👍
Wagons > SUVs
Any.
Day.
Of.
The.
Week.
We need these in the US
Pretty sexy car, but not as sexy as Pavle in a rivers polo 😉
Yes please!
98% similarity to my skoda RS combi
No not interested only SUV is the best type of vehicle now !
yes! Another Volkswagen in Australia
with better interior!!
Rebranded VW,no thanx
They bring I buy
I think Cupra should definitely bring the León Sportstourer to Ozzyland.

I agree completely.
So it's just an Skoda Octavia Wagon with the Golf R driveline. If it does come to Aust, can't see much change from $90k
Lost interest as soon as you mentioned recharging. 😊

Too true the fact they are $20,000 dearer to start with, plus they'll be worthless when the battery needs replacing. 😊
heard about supra wtf is cupra
