Oh man this was a somewhat stressful project. I tried shooting this by myself with a camera that doesn't have autofocus, and then the doofus that I am managed to frame a shot with so many reflections in it that there ended up being 4 Jazs in frame at all times. So we reshot this whole review again 🤪 I'm very happy that we did, though - Jaz

Underrated channel
Just got these to use as work-from-home headphones, b/c cheap head/mic combos have mics that sound like you're on speaker phone (letting lots of ambient noise mix into your mic's feed). These have nice audio, but they sit heavy on your head, and the strap on the top seems to carry most of the weight, which creates a pressure pushing down on the top of your skull. You have to adjust the headset JUST RIGHT to help alleviate this, or add some extra cushioning or something to offset this. The mic is also still very sensitive. It has much better audio quality, cancels out a lot of the background noise around me, but still picks up every breath, sigh, or mouth noise I make. I have them plugged into a work computer, so I can't install the app that goes with them to adjust the mic sensitivity. So, it's just kind of annoying that they're setup to have a super-sensitive mic out-of-the-box.. and don't have some kind of "mic noise cancellation" dial built into the headset. I don't think manufacturers take mic audio quality as seriously as they should. I shouldn't need to install an app to mess with that. And it's hard to trust the "noise cancellation" features on things like Zoom or Teams. Anyways, it's still better than a cheap-o headset.
Watching this again in 2023. I recently bought my third JBL Quantum 400 but you basically solidified my choice to buy a 2nd one 3 years ago. The mic is really one of the best at its price point.

Bought these because of this specific review 4 months ago. I TOTALLY REGRET buying it. My previous headset lasted 2 whole years with no problem. But I opted for the Quantum 400 as an upgrade and boy was I in for a surprise. This is by far the worst durability I have ever experienced in my life. Used it for 4 months and then the hinge that hold the headset together is destroyed, the foams are all destroyed. Again I have only used them for 4 months on a daily basis. The overall function and software is really amazing. But I don't recommend shelling out your hard earned money to a product that would break in an absurd amount of time.
Ooh, that's interesting! I'm so sorry to hear they weren't durable :( but that's good to know. I don't wear mine daily, so mine are still perfectly fine after over a year for me - band, fabric, mic and everything. If I were to do a review in the future I will see if I can't look into durability.

Hello, I am looking specifically for office work, calls, WebEx, Skype, zoom etc. I cannot afford professional headset which are quite expensive, neither can I settle with a cheap ones. Can you please advise if this headset is good enough for my purpose. I can occasionally play some games as well. Thank you.
Definitely! Mic quality is great for a headset mic (at least, in my experience of headsets, haha). It will suit your purposes and then some. You could potentially go cheaper if all you're doing is work stuff and the occasional game. But the mic sound is quite nice.

Just wondering if they can also be used for work... with Zoom or MS Teams
All audio will be played through the headphones, so yes you'll be able to use on Microsoft Teams etc. But as far as I'm aware, the voice chat vs game audio dial won't recognise Teams or Zoom as a separate audio source, so you won't be able to balance it through the headphones. You'll have to do that through your computer. But the general volume dial will still work! - Jaz

Will there be the RGB lights while playing with it on console?
Yes! If you plug it in with the USB type-A to type-C cable. But if you're using the aux cable by connecting it to your controller, it won't light up.

Can you replace the earcups with this? Would like to replace it with mesh fabric earpads
They are replaceable within the JBL Quantum range, however if you are wanting to change with a non JBL Quantum earcup this is not possible.

Hello! The light is on when it's flipped up and muted, but I couldn't find where to turn the light off in the software sorry..

I’m thinking of purchasing a wired headset around the price range of $100, is there a better one in your opinion at this time with better surround sound and comfort? Oh wow, thank you! Sorry I got to your comment so late. I actually haven't got a new headset after the JBL 400 (I'm very happy with them) so I'm not quite up-to-date with the latest headsets. I do find my Corsair is significantly more comfortable and better for long-haul gaming (like 5 hour streams etc) - but I use a different mic with it. The sound, however, is better on the JBL. Not sure if Corsair have improved in that area since the HS70. Very little insight for you there, though, sorry. I hope you find the perfect headset for yourself! - Jaz

Yeah :( I'm not sure if this would actually work, but there are USB to usb-c adapters which miiiiiight help power the lights on the headset?? I haven't tried myself, so I don't want to assume it would, but that is a potential idea to try out - Jaz

Hi there! You've earned a sub, great content and straight to the point. I ended up getting this headset because of your review, but I have one question. Does yours turn on automatically when you turn your pc on? My headset is always connected via USB but sometimes I turn my PC on and they stay off, I then have to disconnect the USB and connect it again. After that, they work fine and I love them. Has that ever happened to you? They are still under warranty and I'm wondering if I should replace them
Oh huh. This hasn't happened to me but I tend to take my headset out when I turn the computer off and tidy up, so I'm not sure if this is a thing. It's a very weird thing if it's not actually faulty. I'd check if the headset is set as your computer's default sound output. Meanwhile I will do some testing on my own Q400 later when I get back home from work - Jaz

How's the sound quality?
The sound quality increases as you go up the Quantum range scale, as you would expect. But I'm really happy and loving the sound quality of the Quantum 400. I still say it's the best headset I've got, considering everything including price - Jaz
@@prettymuchgeeks3436 I'm between this and the corsair HS50. I've heard the quantum 400 isn't worth it for console players, Is that true? Also do the ajustments you make on the eq like activating 3D etc stay saved and work on console?
@@willsimpson3783 Yeah, they do if you connect the USB-C cable to your PS4 (doesn't work with Xbox!), rather than the aux cable to your controller. I haven't personally tried the Corsair HS50, but I have the HS70. I like the comfort and sound of the HS70, but the mic sucks. I'm assuming the HS50 might have a similar mic. If you really don't care about mic quality though, the HS50 is cheaper. If you have a PS4 and don't mind being attached to your console, I would say it's worth it, but in terms of sound you'll probably get about the same from both on an Xbox or Switch. Ultimately, though, it's up to you and what you want to spend your money on. Is the better mic on the Quantum 400 worth the extra money? For me, yes, because I like to sound nice on mic. But for other people, it's not necessary. - Jaz
@@willsimpson3783 Oh, and also the quantum engine only works on Windows, as far as I'm aware. So if you only have a Mac, then that will probably answer your questions immediately
is the jbl 400 headsets wireless? cause i see the word blue tooth when i looked
The Quantum 400 is not wireless. You need to plug it in to something to power it.
