1) Be a great storyteller. 2) listen to the whispers. I spent the last 22 years of my life in the technical world, but I always had a yearning to be a writer. When I went to school the first time around, my parents thought writing was too unstable. now in my 40s, got my BA in English and now getting my MA in scriptwriting. I am going to be a writer; I listened to that whisper.
Not only is Steven one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, if not the greatest, as of 2016, he also has the distinction of being the only person to say this sentence: "The Oscar goes to Martin Scorsese". He did it at the 79th Academy Awards, he was presenting with Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas and Martin won for The Departed.
Listening to 'the inspiration' explanation 'really' clarified how I feel. I wanted to cry over his artist's understanding . The 'critic' held my inner voice for too long, it screamed a few years ago and everything I had to stop. I'm now about to finish an MFA in Screenwriting. I have scripts I never thought I would write. That whisper meant a lot.
Conscience - what you should do vs Inspiration - what you could do. Yet both are part of listen to the whispers. Thank you Evan, your cutting of the footage made his advice come alive.
I'm about to embark on my first narrative feature film called The Luring which I wrote and will be directing this April. Watching this video now is very inspiring to me because my script is finished, we raised the money to move forward and now we are in the beginning stages of locking certain things down and I will be doing the storyboards soon which is extremely important when trying to explain a unique story. That's what a film is, it's the explanation of a story and like Spielberg said, it's better to tell a story then to try to be over zealous with the camera angles. This stage of planning out the shots will define my film so watching this video now is just a special moment for me. Not sure if that means anything to anyone but I thought I'd share my little story.
Look at all those things that give you inspiration and soon you will achieve what your here for and in the process identify who you are and who you belong to and with. Its a process that starts when you allow it to begin. You are the visionary..
Thanks Evan for making this lovely informative and inspirational video on the world famous Film director Mr.Steven Spielberg. All the 10 rules he mentioned can give any individual success in his profession.
That's awesome to hear! I'm glad that you're feeling motivated. Welcome aboard, Migdalia!!! Thank you for sharing with us and thanks for watching. #Believe! #BelieveNation #BTA712 Luka
I rarely (truly never) think about this man. Great movie-maker and all that, sure. But, I just woke up in a cold sweat from a dream wherein SS died and I was supposed to run through the streets downtown Austin to tell everyone like some kind of newsie. The streets were covered in some kind of deep mud and I only made it about a block before I collapsed from exhaustion. Now I'm too tired and wet to go back to sleep. Just thought I'd share.
I am 76 and I am finding Evan Carmichael’s 10 Rules for Success invaluable. I think the true way to go in life is in the Art of Salesmanship. To that end, all of Stephen’s points are valid. I study material put out by Zig Ziglar and to tie in with this is Point 4, Be a Great Storyteller. I have an impossible dream, to live for another 74 years, as I am currently living in a Care Home and most of the residents are watching television, being entertained or asleep it is difficult to work but I do have a good room and can work there. My wife lives in a Care Home about 1 mile away and I visit her three times a day or she comes to me. After my first 75 years of life, I collapsed financially and am only now starting to recover. Believe it or not, I wrote a computer program in Assembly Language to win the UK National Lottery. Despite warnings from everyone, I believed my own hype, funded the idea with my credit card and the rest is history.
"LISTEN TO YOUR INTUITION" I DON'T BELIEVE EVERYBODY HAS INTUITION AND THEN AGAIN I BELIEVE SOME PEOPLE'S INTUITION IS STRONGER THAN OTHERS. I HAVE TO LEARN TO EMBRACE MY INTUITION MORE. THANKS EVAN. TOP STUFF! 👍
This meets me in a special moment of my life, so when I heard intuition and whisper I could recognice my own intuition about how to solve a huge problem that's a huge project in my life; wise and sensitive man, Spieñberg. Notorious character.
Evan Carmichael Thank you so much for sharing! Can you please do one on Spike Lee & then one on Anorld Schwarzenegger please thank you! I'm taking notes & your greatly appreciated!
I didn’t listen to the whisper at first. Then one day, after 20 years of working in the corporate world, I started to listen to the whisper. I embraced my love for art and photography and quit my job to be an artist. The money is nowhere near the same but I am a million times happier.
Hey man gotta tell ya, this is some inspiring stuff... Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with the world. Thank you, who knows.. I might just turn into the best director that has ever lived... & the moment ill remember is when I watched the top 10 rules of success for my favorite directors on your channel & I learned that so many valuable lessons I would of rather missed out on or would have had to spend a lot of time searching for. Thank you again. HLT
Thank you very much for the appreciation and for watching FOYI LLC. Glad to know that you are inspired and you learned from the videos. :) All the best to you! Yes, who knows? We are looking forward to you being the best director. Always #Believe in yourself and take action to achieve your goals. Much love. #BTA287 Shine
Hey Evan, love what you do. I would love to see you do one of co-founder, heavy metal innovator, and greatest rhythm guitarist of all time, Metallica's James Hetfield. I really enjoy your work, you bring respect and introspection to people and celebrities that seem vapid and empty to the public eye. Good job!!
I expecting that 7th point. I like that. And I tell myself as well as other people to be original. In this field, many people try to change us or follow them. That's why we get distracted and do not realise our own abilities. The 8th point is also very good. Especially after @10:30
I want to be an animator and/or filmmaker, but because of my autism, I constantly shift interest and so a lot of my animations and short film projects end up in the recycle bin or in a portable hard drive, never to be touched again. But I hate doing that, because great directors (like Spielberg) make these great films because they're passionate about what they're making and they're such great storytellers. This video shows me that I need to try harder at it.
Really enjoyed the 'Express Your Own Originality' and 'Leave An Impression' clips! Sometimes people come across as greedy, like they want to keep the secrets and successes for themselves but a trend I see with a lot of the successful people seems to be them actively encourage others to go out and find their own 'thing' and do it their way. Encouraging others to just get creative for themselves. Thanks Evan & Team!
if i can ask u a question.....i m film maker.....i m at my early stage.....and i wana direct a webseries.....i have worked in many short films with my friends....but my question is not technical about film making.....i wana know how to control or make someone work with u....i mean at this stage i cant afford professional people...... i have formed a team.....but as they all are working for free in my project,so sometimes they take it for granted..... as u can clearly figure out this question is regarding leadership....so how to manage all this.....plz suggest me if u can......thanku so much evan......
I've actually created my first film using still photographs, and everyone is telling me to go get a real job instead of focus on writing stories and filmmaking but I just want to focus on my passion which is filmmaking. With filmmaking you can inspire others and through films you can express stuff that you wouldn't experience in your own life, that's what I like about films! It's like living a fantasy and experiencing stuff you can only experience through your imaginations if you don't experience it through films and sometimes films can be an adventure you've never been on or can afford in real life!
A month later I'll be 30. I have listened to my voice long back when I'm 7 or 8 and still holding on to my dreams on becoming a movie director just like him. Don't know when do I get cherish my dreams.
I got my Eagle Scout and I earned a cinematography merit badge. A badge that was influenced by Steven Spielberg. Now I continue my journey to becoming a filmmaker.
I am 73 years young. I wish I had seen this interview 50 years ago. This interview is the story of my life outside the movie industry in the world of high end IT. However, with profound dyslexia, there was no way I could program. A superb engineer agreed to build the worlds first professional Social Hypermarket to launch late 2018 or early 2019.
I don't agree with being jealous. If u envy a quality or attainment then your inner self is telling u that you want this for yourself. But rather than be jealous of something someone has earned and playing rival why not just admire that person's quality/attainment and see this person as your teacher. =so that you can learn how to achieve this for yourself. Now he might be using the words interchangeably. And maybe he is talking about utilizing jealousy as a driving force to feed your ambition and to be competitive. But I believe ambition is independent of others (much like your intuitive voice). My 2 cents. Regardless with this one disagreement, I love Steven Speilbergs work and dig the rest of his advice.
Evan, as a professional dancer I would love to see a Choreographer 10 rules to success. I know its a hard medium because dancers are not often interviewed as Actors or singers. But I know there is a niche market that needs that motivations too especially when it comes to people saying no to you in auditions and body image struggles. I LOVEEEEE all the videos though. Keep it up :) Thank you!! A suggestions and a big name right now is Misty Copeland
I love acting, but I love singing and songwriting. Now I'm learning to play the piano. But I love writing my own scripts.lol I think the thing for me is passion priorities 😂

I was the first person outside of his own family that truly believed in Steven Spielberg. His genius was so obvious to me, while intensely brilliant people like Ann Richards and Bill Clinton took no notice of him. Hillary Clinton detected what I did, however. And Ann Richards sure did love him. I guess we all did, but I remember telling Steven Spielberg to his face NOT to go back to college. It was one of the whispers he talks about in this fine video, probably from God Almighty. I told him: "Steven Spielberg! You have already forgotten (at 24) more about making great movies than all the professors in all the colleges & universities in all the world will ever learn." He had me repeat it in front of his then pestering girlfriend who believed as we all did that going to college was essential preparation for life. He changed his mind then and did as God and I bid him to do. For decades Steve would give me honors, just small things. He let me compose the poems and the sax cave solo for Dead Poets Society, he let me write the letters in Back to the Future, the notes in Good Will Hunting. I have named a dozen films and added bits and bobs to so many movies, I mean do you know what a thrill it is to hear your own words in Braveheart, Forrest Gump, The Matrix, Avatar, Titanic, 6th Sense, The Revenant, Phantom Menace, Rogue One, and on and on? Any fairly smart person could do what I did to help my old friend Stevie Spielberg over the years, but it was his genius, his real genius, that made everything possible. Of course, everybody I tell this to thinks I'm nuts which is a bit of a problem, but oh well. It's worth it.
Hello Evan, Thank you for your inspiring videos, a great idea, and so well done! Would you see if you can make one about Arianna Huffington? Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Elena

Yeah, man, I guess mine is Listen to the whispers, but again, I can see that it really is similar to number 8 which is follow your intuition...Spielberg is my inspiration like forever, I even entered movies for just having his name on the poster, not even knowing who's playing heros...and that's what I call a movies maker master...thanks again Evan, and luv this compilation as well...take care man...

Evan, I hope you will watch some of my films :) www.marshallfilm.com
Thank you for sharing with us, Ross! #BelieveNation #BTA923 Luka
