Last year Holly Johnson appeared on a British music quiz show called 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks'. On that Christmas episode he performed an Accapella version of his bands song, this song, The Power of Love, to celebrate its 40th anniversary. After 40 years, around the nation for those 4 minutes, you could hear a pin drop to the floor. An absolutely spectacular voice, massively underrated.
I vaguely remember an interview by the band years ago & they were asked about the line " I'll protect you from the hooded claw " in which they replied it was a character from one of their favourite cartoons " The Perils of Penelope Pitstop " . Lead singer Holly Johnson had a few solo hits as well " Americano " & " The Love Train " come to mind .
This is my No.1 fav song of all time. I dont know why, but it just hits different for me, there were days i just had it on repeat and i never got sick of it. Now-a-days it brings back so many good memories, takes me back to my teen years in the 80's, best years of my life.
I remember I went outside on the deck at night and it was a full moon too. Put my head phones on and sat back on a deck chair then this song started playing. Looked up at stars and had an outta body spiritual experience? Was one of the bizarre moments ever! This song took me to space and back? Lol 😂
In the 1985 the UK singles charts featured in rapid succession three different songs by three different artists all called "The Power of Love" - this one, Jennifer Rush and Huey Lewis & The News
Although it was released as a single at Christmas, I've never thought of it as a Christmas song particularly, just a brilliant love song at any time of the year.
This is not the full version but the radio/video edit. Anne Dudley from the Art Of Noise arranged and conducted the string section. The Power Of Love is a beautiful song. Frankie Goes To Hollywood' only did the vocals on the Welcome To The Pleasure Dome Album. Trevor Horn produced the album and played bass guitar.J. J. Jeczalik played keyboards and programmed the Fairlight C.M.I. Stephen Lipson was the guitar player on the album.Steve Howe from the bands Asia and Yes played the acoustic guitar on Welcome To The Pleasure Dome song. You should hear the multi-tracks from the songs and hear how little Frankie Goes To Hollywood actually played on the album.
'Pretty sure that Holly Johnson said that this is the song that he's most proud of lyrically. It is definitely a gorgeous song Btw they are the most amazing pleasure domes. 😁
I remember very well when this song raided our school back in the 80's! Frankies goes to Hollywood was an amazing band/projekt. They break up way to early!
This video was made by Godley and Cream part of a band in the 70s callled 10CC . They wanted to make a straight nativity video for Xmas , However the record company wanted the band in the video so they had to change and put in a border with the members of the band in it . I think it spoils the video but hey it is what it is .
Not really into this song. However, I do like the songs relax but the video from the movie body double and also like two tribes also in the beginning I had to double check but it is in kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome to create where else the sacred rivers ran in caverns measureless to man down to the summer seas which is said in the movie Xanadu one of my favorites obviously by Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John when they were deciding on doing the club. It's a it's a poem. I think I have to go back and look. I'm sorry but I like that poem or whatever it is and I may mispronounce something or misspelled cuz I'm half asleep not feeling well and on drugs prescription of course can't wait by another 10 days and it'll be my turn again
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written
I agree
💯 perfect and beautiful

Agreed. For years Holly Johnson would not sing in public, fearing he wasn't good enough. Form is temporary, class is permanent.
The 9 minute version of this is exquisite, sublime! Truly one of the most beautiful songs. x
The most perfect pop ballad of all time.
This is so Christmas for me!! I never normally listen to it until December. It’s beautiful.
gorgeous song. Frankie were such a great band. Love their catalogue !
Timeless & perfect song. 🖤
Whoever produced that song knew exactly what was required.
Trevor Horn ALWAYS knows exactly what is required!
One of the Best Christmas Songs ever!
No, I think Jingle Bells is or Frosty the Snowman.

After their frist two heavy banger songs this was their Christmas song. Beauriful
Glad you have found the Btitish and their music. Nothing comes close to their style and spirit in songs.
A gread xmas song ...i like the song relax from frankie goes to Hollywood!
Beautiful Christmas song
In 1984 there were 3 songs called "The Power of Love" that Charted in Australia.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Huey Lewis and the News and Jennifer Rush.
Same songs were big hits in the UK too. Fantastic year for music.

Same three in Australia, this is still the best one

A good Christmas song
Hey guys this goes way back love this song. love ya
The video is spectacular!
3 number ones in a calendar year. He is a legend ❤
Love his voice and the orchestration in this. This was a Christmas no1 in the UK hence the nativity video.
It hit UK #1 first week of December 1984. FGTH was #6 and Band Aid claimed the UK Christmas #1, during the Christmas week in 1984.
@@DJKav I stand corrected
Classic
Thank you! I worked my italian with the italian subtitles! LOL Love that song, so beautiful!

FGTH did write and compose their originals, and their 3 UK #1's, Relax, Two Tribes and The Power of Love.
I thought it was his legs too as not seen video for ages lol 😂 love this song tho
Goodley and Creme did the music video. They were half of 10cc
Half of 10cc = 5c. 😮😊👍
'Pretty sure that Holly Johnson said that this is the song that he's most proud of lyrically. It is definitely a gorgeous song

Best Pet Shop Boys song
Epic.

In the UK it’s a big deal who gets the number one song in the charts at Christmas. Frankie goes to Hollywood achieved that with this song in 1984
Bandaid was the #1 Xmas song of 1984
@@veddyveddygoodah yes of course. I should have remembered that Band Aid knocked them off the number one spot
@@juliemartin4267 Indeed. It did reach #1 just not the coveted #1 on Xmas week.
My request is for you to wear that top more often 😍
Assuming you haven't already the other big FGTH songs would be Relax, Two Tribes and War
there are 2 more FGTH songs you will totally love "relax" and "two tribes"
You should take a listen to their version of Born To Run. It's fabulous!

Record company executives truly make me sick, never had a hit themselves and can’t even play an instrument. Wankers!!
Travis be nice I heard that anyways love you both.
Nice
Lovely lovely song (but why would a claw be hooded ?)
The Hooded Claw was a character from an 80s cartoon, 'The Perils of Penelope Pitstop'
@@DJKav yes but why would a claw be hooded? It’s a claw!
Good
nice video, only irritated point is that you didn't take off the subtitles.....or use the english subtitles
Trevor Horn, never knowingly underproduced. But you can't argue with what he did here.

Guys to much talking give the song a chance please
Pretty sure the band were furious with the video.
They're not in it. The song itself had nothing to do with Christmas.
Really? It’s about love.
