    I live on Long Island right near the old Multivox distribution warehouse in Hauppage. Multivox was the sole importer in the USA of Hofner instruments and they also had their own line of pedals, amps and other instruments. They used to be the sole importer of the Hofner Beatle Bass. I used to go there to clean out left overs and closeouts to sell at my music shop. In the early 80s, I picked up two kits of Shorties. One bass and one 6 string. I built both of them and still have them. They used to sell them as kits you built yourself. They came from Germany. Nowadays, they have reissued them and they are made in China. My Geman Shorties are very nice guitars, especially the bass. I don't know how the Chinese ones are. Good playing though mate. You have a lot of love and enthusiasm for what you do and it shows.

    Nice playing mate , the only problem I have with these is I wish they would "add " even a little bit to too the bottom horn , then it wouldn't keep slipping off my lap

    Excellent playing and sound ! Do you have any idea why there is so much hum noise ? is it the guitar pickup ?

    • @tommytonebiz
      @tommytonebiz  9 лет назад +12

      the hum noise is NOT from the pickup - it's from my recording equipment (camera input ...)

    I really struggle to make my Hofner stay still enough to play it. I mean, I really struggle with the guitar, anyway :-D But it's good enough for fingerboard practice when I'm away from home.

    It looks like you either got a hofner shorty that was well set up or you set it up yourself properly (if it is a chinese hofner shorty). The one I bought has issues that I need to sort out such as the action needs raising, the truss rod needs adjusting and the nut probably needs to be replaced with one that is set up right. I'm thinking of making a new body for mine out of a heavier more dense wood. I love how easy the thing is to play, but I don't like how the intonation is out and how it goes out of tune so easily.
    Mind you my old 90's japanese squier strat has issues with intonation that all these years later I have still not sorted out lol.

    Might be a silly question, but is a shorter guitar ok to learn on, for muscle memory? Seems like since the frets are narrower, it would kind of throw you off.

    I just got hold of a Hofner shorty and I brought strap locks and put them on, but I can't get the strap on the strap lock because there isn't enough room, and even when you get the strap on it is unbalenced and tips forward. How did you manage to attach the strap to the end of the guitar?

      if ur strap is attached to d body, tendency is to move either 4ward or downward unless if attached to d headstock. Me, i dont attached to d body, all my guitars acoustic and EG atta hes to headstock. Regarding how to attach to headstock or what u call tip, u can buy leather strap holder in lazada, however set of strap has a string

    I am looking for a study guitar (I have others acoustic mostly and play them for things) and this has 24 frets. That is what I am looking for... is the string ... neck adjustable? I am learning various exercises mostly ... light and can do it at will. Thanks for the jazz test .... everyone (it seems) are into distortions and I am not into that at all ... (at this point) . I need clean and precise tool and use a metronome. Is there any other units ... that doesn't cost much more if at all?

    U play real good. Loved yor playing.
    I play soft-hard rock, blues, country and sometime metal .
    Should i get this ?
    Does it stays in tune coz i pull too much in soloing ?
    Is it good for recording and giging?
    Does it noisy ?

    • @frankierestituto3290
      @frankierestituto3290 4 года назад

      it stays in tune. Why? Becoz its a fixed saddle nut, unlike with springed tremolo. No problem also if ur tremolo is bigsby

    I am in Taiwan and I am trying tu buy a Hofner Shorty from China...I
    don´t think Hofners are made in Germany anymore, so all of them have to
    come from China, but there are too many different adds in Taobao, I
    don´t know which ones are bad knockoffs and which are legit... If
    someone has purchased a shorty from China, can you please give me some
    advice.

    Excellent playing! I was wondering, does attaching the strap to the head instead of the body has any advantage in the stability of playing position?

    • @jamessakimae9655
      @jamessakimae9655 8 лет назад

      not really having it at the head can make the guitar parallel to the ground

    • @tommytonebiz
      @tommytonebiz  7 лет назад

      I think it is more stable

    • @theodorosalexandropoulos6983
      @theodorosalexandropoulos6983 2 года назад

      Actually, attaching the strap to the head may be the only way to stabilize this instrument because of the uncomfortably disproportionate weight of the fretboard.

    I wonder if I can put slightly thicker strings to get a more acoustic sound, I need a really small travel guitar to practice but I am learning blues and folk and can't use a pick to save my life

      I am really surprised! I dont trust the international flights overseas, as they may request the guitar to be taken into cargo. So if it happened to be in a soft gig case, the guitar is bye bye
