  • Tf49 truck fridge. Ran for a year solid, could easily do another 20 years. Perfect for camping or just having cold beer at all times.

Mine draws way too many watts- 43-47w when the compressor kicks on. Drains my 502ah batteries so fast.

Thanks Terry. I have the same TF49 in my 85 Westy. I want to attend Buses by the Bridge but need refrigeration for medicine I carry. I need more info on what exactly you installed to get the fridge running. My battery isn't keeping up. Will 100 watt panel really work. Renogy said I need 400 watts.

darcy bauer I used a AGM deep cycle battery 75AH and in the summer, (when I did all my Camping) it kept up. Now in the winter with regular driving I did plug in in the evenings while I lived in my van. Depending on where you live your total sun hours can change things. More batteries are way more important to more solar panels. I've since sold the van and bought a truck camper, installed 300w solar, 200 AH of 6v batteries and I should have doubled my batteries. You can always find a place to plug in at least once a week in the winter.

Thanks Terry. You sold your Westy. Doubt I could ever part with mine. Jay from Bus Depot has the same TF49 and runs his on two 75 AH batteries and a flex 100 watt panel. I'm going to try it. Thanks a bunch for getting back to me so fast.

@@darcybauer8638 Hey Darcy, so it has been a while...how is your 2x, 75AH batteries + 100 watt flex panel been working out? What charge controller did you use? Did you permanently mount the 'flex' panel or only put it out when you are camping? Very interested in this fridge, but, wanna make plans to get it 'right' the first time...else, I will never hear the end of it from the wife!! :-) Thanks for your help/input!!

@@HomeBizDude TF49 installed but haven't added additional battery or flex panel yet. There are YT vids showing battery placed under bench seat & 100 watt flex panel.

Where there any issues with the fit at all? I was looking at the TF49 and also the TF65, I know you have to trim your cabinets for the 65L to fit....was the 49L too narrow?

Fit like a glove, just save the original cabinet front from the old fridge. I used the instructions from here.

My TF 49 fit perfectly plus left a few inches on top or bottom for storage. My 50 AH auxiliary won't keep it running so I'm going to try a suggestion from Jay at The Bus Depot. He has two 75 AH AGM batteries and a flex solar panel and says it works great at keeping the TF 49 working. Batteries are installed under the bench seat. He has a vid on Samba.

Hey there. I’m wondering if you used an installation kit? It so, where did you get yours? I’ve found a couple but they seem expensive and I wonder if I need one or if I can just get the parts I need at a hardware store? I’ve ordered the fridge and I’m waiting on it to arrive. Thanks!

I left a link in the comments of what I used to install.

Thanks for the video. You said your running it from your solar panels. Can you give a little more info on that setup. I’m assuming you have a aux battery for the Truck fridge?

So,why do you condemm propane fridges?Just because you got a piece of shit/unmaintained propane fridge, doesnt give you the right to tell everyone that they dont work.False info right there?
You should be pleased with the truck fridge, they are made for vehicles,i have 2 otr tractors, never had a worry yet, going on 5 yrs now.

Maybe you misunderstood me, I have a truck camper with a 3 way fridge that works really well, so in general propane is great for fridges. But to be clear, most if not all propane fridges used in the "westfalia" (Which was what I was referring to) were notoriously poor performing fridges. Show me a westfalia fridge that makes ice, you won't find one.

Because the original propane fridge is tech from 40 years ago, only keeps your food a bit colder than the outside temp. Are you a member of Save Old Not Working Tech?
