Another 82 Westy owner here. I get what you are saying about the vibe. I also own a Ford E250 4x4. Bought it thinking I would like something bigger. It is nice but I take the Vanagon everywhere. I can't help but love it. Funnest thing I own.

A friend bought them for me from a couple in their van that made a handful to sell at the camp out event “Descend on Bend” a few years back! If you know someone who welds, I’m sure they could be custom made though :)

They might have what you need on GoWesty.com but I’m not sure who could install it - depends on where you’re based and/or if you want to do it yourself. Mines still the original 😅

Hi, I have the 82 westy/ maybe you can answer a ? Of mine/ I have the heavy duty struts on my pop top/ and Thule storage bin on top/ it’s a BEAR TO OPEN AMD CLOSE for me/ yours seemed to just glide With easy operation/ any ideas or tricks I should know about? thx
Mine only has some snowboard gear in it right now! If it’s super full it’s not this simple. And I sometimes have to use the top of my head to lower slower 😂 …is yours super full/where are your struts from? My solar panels are also really lightweight.

Where'd you get the jerry can and mount?
Bought it off a friend who also had it attached to their GoWesty bumpers. The arm attachment is GoWesty and to be honest, I’m not 100% sure where they got the Jerry can originally. 🤔 I can ask em!
How much did the subaru conversion cost
ehh roughly 15k ish. Mine was originally air cooled so there are some extra costs with radiator, coolant lines etc.
Please dont drill holes into those westfalia furniture. even if they are old but they are sealed against moisture.
Good thing I own it! One hole for the heater to keep me from nerve damage is worth it to me. It also drastically improved any moisture issues I had.
It’s just cabinet grade plywood so I mean she should just do whatever makes her happier
Pulling your dometic stock fridge and giving up your floor space for a fridge you don’t use! Bad idea - you should have fixed your stock fridge instead of swallowing the gowesty BS.
Sorry sir but that’s just your opinion. I love the extra storage and the Dometic fridge is bigger and more efficient than the original ever was. I use it when I take trips so of course it won’t always be stocked. The floor space doesn’t bother me at all. Thanks 👋🏼
