  • Ice Age is a fun cool movie with some neat stuff to say about human nature. Here’s a video essay about that.
‪@mediamementosofficial‬ Ice Age Video: • How Ice Age Became One...
The story revolves around sub-zero heroes: a woolly mammoth (Manny), a saber-toothed tiger (Diego), a sloth (Sid) and a prehistoric combination of a squirrel and rat that is known as Scrat as they set out to return the baby human (Roshan) to his tribe.

The original Ice age was spectacular. It’s really a shame the following films lost that spark.

I remember when I did an Ice Age marathon a few years back, I had forgotten how the original movie held up. I especially love how "grounded" this movie was compared to the sequels, where I felt they went overboard with the comedic stuff.

Honestly I completely forgot about the original movie and how deep the story and characters were.... kinda taken aback more by the cool dinosaurs and stuff of the Third Movie... but seeing that stripped all away with the half-witted sequel that came out recently and comparing it to this I can see which of the movies is truly superior.
Ice Age 3 might've been cool, but Ice Age 1 was beautiful in a much deeper sense.

I gotta disagree with you - I always felt like the humans/Roshan should've come back. This baby, like you point out, he was the _bridge_ for Manny, Diego and Sid becoming a family of friends on the journey, and I always feel like the humans/Roshan added a dark, realistic undercurrent to everything, and having the baby return, but older, would've had more interesting and emotional ways to flesh out Roshan's role as a "peace child" between man and beasts.

Oh I’d have loved to see that, but it definitely would’ve had to happen in a very different kind of movie than the sequels ended up being.

@@ThePonderer Yeah, the sequels "lost the plot" per se, by being so tonally off and dissonant to IA1's dramedic tones. If the sequels had been more drama/comedy instead of just bland, generic comedy, I feel like they would've been better sequels because I *ADORE* IA1 and have always been frustrated with how the sequels let virtually nothing from it carry over. Manny and Diego, especially, could've used humans in the sequels becos their arcs/development lead straight back to Roshan!

What happened to the humans? Since they were the apex predators of the ice age and were the ones to survive what happened? They never returned.

@@ThePonderer still, though it didn't make sense. Would have love to see them return as the apex predators at first, but then the kid who manny save aids him maybe in the 4th film along with other cause even dogs belive it or not haven't been seen since the first movie.
