Not only did Manny overcome his despondency and hatred for mankind who slaughtered his family he cared for their young and delivered it safely back to them. Talk about a heroes journey. Talk about turning the other cheek...
1. He's heading north to die (basically suicide freeze due to sadness) in the coming blizzard and is looking for a way to simply get down the hill so he can continue walking. 2. He's planning to jump off the cliff/hill. 3. This is the spot where his family died and he is grieving. I've always thought it was 1. It's clear from his interaction with the little family of trunked animals in the beginning that he isn't migrating with the other animals because he doesn't care and is walking towards the direction of the freeze. So regardless of the option, I still think he was going to let himself die at the start of the movie because of what happened to his family.
I think it's the same cliff they throw the rocks from and he was grieving there which explains why he never left that spot and didn't know about the other mammoths because he wouldn't let go perhaps he would feel completely alone if he isn't where they died, Sid and Diego saved him from a crippling depression and he would been way more miserable without them.
Though your thought on manny standing there implying the fact that he probably wanted to end his life sounds promising. What would the possibility be that he went there to just think, and maybe possibly take a breather from something? If the thought of manny wanting to take his life was true, it's a good thing that Sid came around at the right time.
I really wish Chris Wedge would return as the Director of the Ice Age franchise, I believe he could make a way better sequel than the previous ones that didn't do too well with the other directors, this is probobly the reason why Blue Sky Studios shut down.
blue sky got shut down because disney bought them and closed them. Technically while collision course didn't make nearly as much money as its predecessors, it still made more than its budget which technically means it could be considered a success.

Animated movies aren't children movies. Especially Ice Age, the first four movies had dark moments. Not really just a child film. PS: Adventures of Buck Wild will be a spin-off, not an Ice Age 6

I don't think Manny wanted to Suicide. Because in Ice Age 2, Manny looking for another Mammoths because he is worrying that he is probably the last Mammoth. Or if that's off-topic, in Ice Age 1, maybe he was chilling and thinking on his family. He said that he just want to go in South.
Going south would've meant death as the reason they were migrating was the expanding glacier ice sheets. Manny was definitely suicidal. He probably wanted wait out his last days at his families "grave".
I think you might have missed a major hidden message when the baby say's bye to that ufo which somehow indicates in the whole movie that humans were never from the planet earth and they were left behind to work with available resources they have to survive.
