I have the same setup but with a euro200r section 1. Mine sounds pretty much just like this but I have an aFe intake so it's got some roar up front to it. Has to be the best setup you can do for the e46 M3. The headers make all the difference.
Not sure why y'all think I would mislead you as to my setup. I bought the car with the Rogue El Diablo on it, so I have no clue whether it's the track edition or not. Here are the 3 things different in this video: 1st of all I had been driving the car so the exhaust was hot(hot exhaust=less rasp), 2nd I was using a DSLR which has good sound, 3rd my muffler has a dent in it. Maybe you should try giving your El Diablo a whack with a sledgehammer if you're not happy with the sound -___-
ANY catless headers plus the best ANTI rasp mid pipe you can afford makes the El Diablo sound great. u have Cats? Crappy mid pipe? Then, the El Diablo will not sound great. My fave mid pipe for the El Diablo is the now VERY expensive BORLA mid pipe. I wish the uploader would have specified his mid pipe. It Sounds as good as the Borla section 2 with the El Diablo. Mine screamed at 6k to 8.1k RPM. Very F-1 like. Zero rasp. That is the KEY. Getting ALL the rasp out. Not many mid pipes can do that to the raspy 54.
This is the angriest m3 I've heard. It reminds me of a ferrari f12. I'm not sure whether it's the header design or the decat aspect that allows the el diablo to sing that much better than in other videos, but I think I'll decat my section 1 before I fork out for headers and see if I can get an el diablo to sound like this.
Dude... by far the best exhaust I've ever heard on the S54... I would try and compare it to something but I can't... 2j? VQ at points. 911 GT3 at others... BEAST. Unique for an E46
Thanks guys! I think 3.2k to 4.5k rpm sounds like an R32. It sounds raw throughout the power band, but I think if you know what an S54 sounds like, then you could definitely discern what this was with your eyes closed.

After hearing all the exhaust combinations out there, I think this is the one I want to go with. I am just so confused as to how you are not getting any rasp with the setup you have with a stock section 1 and section 2. Section 1 has single stock resonator?
Please let us know! I'm getting my 2nd e46 m3 this Thursday and I think im going to order the AP headers and the El Diablo exhaust, it already has section 1 AP pipe (rasp delete) on there, and i think he might have that.

I'm not to sure, is there any sure way to tell? It's powdercoated black, but other than that I'm not too sure. It even has a dent in the muffler, maybe that helps too ;)

@beastson Oh ok because a guy that owns a garage around my neighborhood has a red cabrio e46 and every time I hear or see it.. It's always wheelspinning like from 5,000 rpm I guess.. I thought he did a bunch of things to it but my friend that knows him said he only added an intake and exhaust

pretty sure the cats and resonators are the cause of rasp. thats what causes the vibrations and thus causing rasp.. look up straight pipe or catless exhausts for this car... you will find that most, if not all, lose the rasp with the cats missing

Everything from the filter to the throttle bodies is stock on the intake system as well.
Do you have a tune? Anything else done besides the headers and catback?
