So I had the same incident happen to me I learned the hard way that both ropes have to be the same length and now I have a giant ring damage around my calf muscle
That was so cool to see. Man you are a good teacher! I was learning from what you told the kid. Speaking of, I'm 34yrs old now. I loved watching you ride when I was a kid growing up. Glad to see you're still at it. I'm a tall guy, wakeboarding never worked out really well for me. I slalom ski now, but put on a board to have a rip last season and it brought back some good memories. You're a cool dude, I'm happy you're still riding and healthy man. I'm over here with a knee surgery and Rogaine trying to make excuses when my childhood hero is still killing it. Keep up the smiles and good energy, you're still an excellent role model for kids and adults now. Work hard and positive vibes.🤙🏼
No way! This takes me back! Crazy story- when I first started riding I couldn’t afford a board so I bought fiber glass, resin, inserts, expanding foam, and plexiglass for fins and made my own fake 1997 Hyperlite! It did the job, but didn’t quite ride like the real deal 😂. boards have come a long way!
I love how ive seen you ride literally planks of wood and random household objects with absolutely no hesitation but then you were a little hesitant to jump on your old board XD
Nostalgic for sure. My brother and I were at wakestock when it was hosted at Deerhurst resort Muskoka in 1997 when we bought a Hyperlite "twin tip". We used that board for over a decade.
Yes! Wakestock up in Muskoka! You probably bought those boards from Paul and Murray Frasier. Canadian Hyperlite distributors and have been in the sport since the beginning.
Wakestock was one of the craziest stops on the tour. I have a poster from the Pride of Muskoka Open that was part when Byerly was there. It was part of the Nautique's X-Cup by the Ontario Wakeboard Association. Bruzer was a big sponsor along with Mike's Hard and a few others. Dave Tsuyuki was a big shot in the Muskoka region at the time.
That was a fun video to watch! I had to learn all my tricks on a prostar 190 with a skylon and fat sacs. Twin tip boards were the new thing, bindings so tight your feet hurt and Shaun Murray was king!
Awesome blast from the past! That was my 2nd wakeboard! My 1st one was the Hyperlite Pro - the first compression molded board ever made. I wish I still had them both!
We don’t have a Natique still rocking the ol four winns but next year we want to come out! I haven’t been to parker in years I’m still riding my old hyperlite Murray pro model from the early 2000’s
I love the old stand up jet skis have quite a few of them myself live on a lake in Florida, just started wakeboarding not long-ago. I like watching your videos and they help me with my progression. Would love to ride with the legend
I've had 3 boards over the last 23 years other than the first skurfer or something like that we started on. That rainbow '97 Murray was my 1st real board - I think with moon boots. That waffle pattern on the top of your feet after riding brings back memories. Board #2 was the white 2006 Murray, and #3 is a 2019 Murray I rode twice this year before the weather cooled off. So, about 10 years of riding each, not a bad investment in fun. I put my 12 year old daughter on the '97 the last time out 'cause she'd outgrown her board kind of suddenly. I didn't think about it being twice as old as she is.
That's amazing nunaya! Moon boots! On my office wall I've hung my 97, 10 year w the X, 20 year w the bug and my 25th anniversary. Pretty crazy honestly but thankful for it all! That's awesome you put your daughter on the 97.
I hear you, I have a 96 mastercraft maristar and boat still works great and it's great not paying a arm and a leg for something that sits in the backyard for several months.
I still have my first Liquid Force board from the late 90's... Never ride it though. It has the old Wiley bindings on it that will rip the hair right off your feet, even when wet. The new bindings are soooo much better, I can't even explain. Flip flops compared to boots is a good comparison. Before that we had a Skurfer, and before that we had a wooden board with rubber on top that was tied right onto the boat. It had it's own rope handle coming from the tip and you would attempt to stand up on the back. We called it the death sled because you had zero control and if you bobbed at all it was over quick. They actually still make them out of plastic I think.
wow Murray my all time fave riding his old school..my first pro model my third board was in 1998 and it was Murray's HL board with the Sun wearing shades,...hit my first backroll at a contest..so much fun memorys
I still have home video of myself riding your 97' pro model for the first time back in 1997. It was my friend's board, and I was riding the Lavelle Latitude 142 at the time. Loved the way your board rode! Maybe I'll dig out the video & share it with you, haha!
Not sure if you'll see this comment in an older video, But I bought an O'brian Freestyle probably 22 years ago and it has a similar shape and size to you vintage board. I recently pulled it out to give it a go and quickly realized the sandal strap bindings were not going to cut it. So I just purchased your 2021 pro model board and will hopefully get to take it out this weekend for my birthday. I've been binge watching a lot of your videos trying to get back into riding after a 20 year break.
I do like to jump into some old boards from time to time. Makes me appreciate my current board (2018 Hyperlite Murray model, of course). Love your videos. Always seem to be having a good time. I'd love to hang out and ride with you one day. 🤙
I had the all green shaun murray honeycomb board with like the filmstrip in the middle! I'd give anything to ride it behind any late 90's ski boat i rode behind!
I turn 50 this month. Guess I'm now just the old geezer on the slalom ski haha. Your vids have inspired me to learn to wakeboard. Better late than never. Can you recommend a decent budget intermediate board I can learn on and grow into for a few years? 6' 185. Also, if you ever pass through Northern CO, I'd be stoked to pull you behind my 1995 Sanger DLX20 that has 273 Orig hours. Get some early morning mid week glass 😂
I have the Dean Levelle with the Aaron Chang wave graphics I still ride it today great board... My other favorite is the original flight 69 red / gold color way boards still hold up.
I would really love to know the pylon and bimini top set up in that boat!! I have an old ski nautique 2001 and I want that exact set up. Just found your channel, love it. Love how you keep it low key and not a young cocky guy like some of the other boarders. Thanks
Shaun Murray, we met back in 99ish. you judged a comp in san diego’s ski course and i got to watch you ride in Tylers boat ( original owner of wakesports unlimited) i had a low key wakeboarding school at the time. we chatted briefly. i haven’t followed wakeboarding in SO long. I got a few sessions in at the rio hardy last year, but knees just couldn’t handle it.....you’re a beast!
Shaun Murray okay....i had to dig out the CWB. mostly blue and i think some kind of weird bone graffiti art (yellow cwb on the bottom) 135 cm absolute platinum with cwb Mobe laced bindings! Let’s ride!!! i had the previous year as well. much wider and a more simpler design maybe
Right?! I had a 12 year old kid ask me "when was your first pro model wakeboard from?" Me "97." Him "Like the 1900's?!" I paused for a second because I'd never heard of it referred to in that way, but then slowly answered as I was processing it "Yes. Yes it is actually. The 1900's. Wow. Thanks for that, and thanks for the joke."
The sound of the river is heaven . Especially when you have a few boards on the boat.
Great spot for sure!
Love how your always sharing everything you can to help people so they can enjoy their ride.
Thanks for watching Jeff!
Yes, your passion really shows through when you are always teaching and sharing! Love it.
So I had the same incident happen to me I learned the hard way that both ropes have to be the same length and now I have a giant ring damage around my calf muscle
i miss the 90s on the lake colors were bright smell of 2stroke in the air good times
King here live the vids!!!
One of my favorite episodes 👌🏽
Right on! Thanks for the feedback Vincent. Was a fun ride for sure!

Right on Jake! Love to hear some history and how people got into the sport.
Murray - You’re the best. Thanks for just being human and real.
Great video! Shaun is the perfect spokeperson for the sport!
Thanks Schnebs!
Superb! Always got time for nostalgia. Looking back every now and then lets you see how far you have come... Peace
Pretty crazy to look back and then get to ride it

I still have this board in my garage
I remember buying this board and the all green honeycomb version. I learned the raley, backroll, indy tantrum, and scarecrow on this board!
Wow! Good memory and impressive trick list
@@Shaun.Murray thank you! I grew up on lake Shasta and bought most of your boards back then. Loved the green vw bug one back then too.
@@jayjokerst stay tuned. Have a pretty cool board about to be released! 🤐

Nailed it Ty!
I live 5 minutes away from Shasta lake California.. bridge bay. You had board stock their in 1998 and you been there since then.
Shasta! First lake I rode a Skurfer on! Rented it from Silver Thorn Marina.
My first board was a Fluid and I still have my 2000 Belmont 134 Honeycomb. And some VHS tapes featuring Mr. Sigarl.
God I wish really rough where I live was that flat 😅 got no lakes or rivers nearby so open sea it is
Oof
SAME still get out when i can tho
We just learned about doubles too. My bro never wants to do it again bc we had diff lengths. :(
Same lengths. Pay attention. Enjoy your ride! ✌️

Nope. It's a testament to those things! They're called Moonboots
I have a 2002 bayliner waterski boat. Every year when we summerise the boat it sounds like a 2021 boat
Bruh I had a Hyperlite Dean Lavelle Latitude 142. OG boards had some of the dopest graphics.

Hey Nic,
I know the owner of this EXACT BOAT (The Lotz Family) maybe I can help answer some questions.
Any update on what type/brand of bimini that is?
Your my hero I want to be you when I am older Luke
Cool owners
Absolutely! Enjoy seeing them at the Nautique Southwest Regattas
i still have my Zane pro model from 98’, even though murray had the best videos on VHS!!!

That's awesome Reilly
Probably one of the most coveted boards in all of wakeboarding.
I wanna see what you can do behind a new ski nautique😂😂
As in what I can do on my wakeboard behind the ski nautique or whatever I can do behind one? That's 2 different things:)
