    Shaun is such a good instructor! I bought a wake board last week and jumped HS wake to wake for the first time in a decade after watching his fundamentals video. Then I shortened the rope and started jumping TS, and his comments in this video are exactly my issue. Such a knowledgeable and useful rider, thanks Shaun!!

    Just went boarding today for the first time this year. I'm still a novice, but in 2019 I was going switch with little problem. Today, using a friend's board, I was scared to do it. My heelside jumps were sweet, but my toeside jumps were pathetic. Just as you describe, going from jumping to "trying not to fall." Part of it was the strange board. It felt really slick underfoot. Was a Hydroslide, I think, and slide around it did. But really, most of it was me being out of shape and out of practice, after staying home most of 2020. And that funny board. Did I mention that?
    Anyway, thank you Shawn for explaining both the actions and the reasons for the actions. That makes it a lot easier. I can't wait for our next run on the lake. I'll be practicing!

    Shaun, what about handle placement? I know the closer the handle is to your core, the better. But can the handle be further out?

    • @Shaun.Murray
      @Shaun.Murray  3 года назад +1

      Keep the handle still and move your core to the handle. You can pull it into your core but that tends to lead to unstacking, basically crouching. Think about arching your lower back, which allows your shoulders to go back, leaning against the handle and you can leave the handle where it is. BUT, sometimes on toeside or even heelside, you need to push the handle down. I often see students lifting the handle as they approach the wake

    the launch side of your wake has no foam whereas the landing side does. How are you obtaining this with the boat? Are you taking ballast in on one side?

    • @Shaun.Murray
      @Shaun.Murray  Год назад

      That happens sometimes w bigger wakes as you pull out to jump the wake it leans the boat over causing the big wake to "roll" over

    Shaun, in your opinion, should a newer rider be more comfortable clearing wakes on heels n toes or learn to ride switch first ? Thanks

    • @Shaun.Murray

      I think learning switch at 10-11 mph first is a good thing to do first. Low risk high reward

      Hard to say without knowing what edge you're catching. You can try to explain here and I'll see what I can do but if you'd like to send some video clips head to www.shaunmurray.com and click coaching. I do some online coaching if we can't meet up in person.

    Is the forefoot straight when toe side? Do not bend? Does that mean my knees are locked?

    • @Shaun.Murray

      Not locked out for sure but stacking bones is generally the best foundation. What's stacking bones?...

    • @burntgrass8066
      @burntgrass8066 3 года назад +1

      @@Shaun.Murray yeah it did, I was able to get a toe side wake to wake and a toe side front 180 with it. My only problem now is that I feel like I’m dragging while cutting in toeside and even getting spray in my face but when cutting in heel side it’s normal. Does toeside require a faster speed? I go pretty slow because my boat isn’t that big.

    • @Shaun.Murray
      @Shaun.Murray  3 года назад

      @@burntgrass8066 Sounds like you're leaning ahead of the line. That will usually be the cause for spray in the face. And maybe too small of a board but either way, if you are leaning at the wake rather than against the line, it will cause you to get ahead of the board and water will hit your back boot or back shin.
