    At $799 for a guide scope and guide camera, that's a steep price. I get that it's integrated into their software and hand controller, but...

    Just got mine and it's amazing with both my AVX and Nexstar SE. Just such a great addition to my Celestron mounts. First images came out great and sooo easy! My Starsense Autoaligner will not go to waste as it still comes in handy on my SW with the interface.

      Too bad the Star Sense Alignment accessory for SW does not work with CPWI and Celestron does not care.

      I just bought one to use with my AVX mount. Is it difficult to learn to use? Did you have to update your NexStar remotes firmware before using?

    • @astroattorney

      @@AnakinSkywalker-mm3gi I did not because I'm using the CPWI software and updated that. It's fairly simple out of the box.

    I think more and more of us are using multiple mounts these days - mounts like the AM5 or Star Adventurer series are very popular. At this price point, the fact that it doesn’t support non-Celestron mounts is a big sticking point for me. $800 and I’m still going to have to use another guiding solution if I switch mounts?
    I guess the price point has always been the focus of criticism for this device. It may work great, but I think many of us aren’t really having a lot of trouble with guiding and polar alignment these days because of some of the other devices out there. Specifically thinking of the ASIAIR - I could get 2 of those, plus a decent guide camera for $800 (well, almost).

    I can't wait for this to come available I am eager to add it to my 9.25 nexstar evolution! 😮

  • @jeffslade1892
    @jeffslade1892 10 месяцев назад

    Refocusing the Starsense Autoalign was a big problem, an iterative process to maximise star count. With a little help from Celestron Tech I was eventually to fix this. I am glad that have addressed this issue with the Autoguider. They do need focusing as slightly out means refusing to align at all and spot-on aligning in well under a minute (AVX).
    What I would like though is an improved mount, off the scope so the scope can be changed, and on a sidesaddle mount plate.

  • @michaellovell5477
    @michaellovell5477 11 месяцев назад +1

    Amazing...imagine the final part of the process, automation of the imaging like that available in new EV scopes. Optional auto guiding along with auto imaging added to the vast population of Celestron high quality telescopes already in the market would really open up astro imaging and the true capability of the Nexstar SE & Evolution fleets.

  • @deep_space_dave
    @deep_space_dave Год назад +9

    This is pretty cool! The only questions I have that I hope celestron can answer are:
    1: is there a ASCOM driver to connect to imaging software like NINA, Sequence Generator Pro, or even TheSkyX?
    2: is this only compatible with Celestron mounts?

    • @Fatal_Inertia
      @Fatal_Inertia 11 месяцев назад +3

      It is only compatible with celestron mounts if I remember right. As for nina I am not sure, I believe it is best used with cpwi.

    • @astroattorney
      @astroattorney 10 месяцев назад +2

      You have to run it through CPWI and then you can connect to the ASCOM driver. I use it to image with SharpCap no problem.

    In watching this video I noticed new/ redesigned mounts and I like them! But my question is I see this device uses the Nextstar handcontroller and not the StarSense HC. So does this do away with the StarSense HC? And how would the StarSense Autoguider compliment a HyperStar? Either which way your answer goes I'm getting one!

  • @JonnyBravo0311
    @JonnyBravo0311 11 месяцев назад +9

    Why?
    Cost: $800. Nope. Celestron's own OAG + ZWO 290 is about $650.
    Hardware compatibility: Only Celestron mounts. Again, Nope.
    Software compatibility: Only CPWI. Third nope.
    Scope specs: 28mm aperture at f/4.3? Seriously? You're going to promote that as a guiding option for scopes with 2+ METERS of focal length?
    Oh, and why would you want to use an external guiding setup on a scope with a moving primary mirror? Mirror flop / flexure would be rather large concerns - especially when imaging at the kinds of focal lengths provided by these scopes.
    The selling points in the video are convenience because you don't have to use separate guiding software... except if you're imaging, you _do_ need to use software and now you're locked into only using CPWI. Oh no! I might have to choose my own star on which to guide? Oh the humanity!
    Don't get me wrong... I love my 8" EdgeHD and Celestron OAG. That is a _far_ better guiding solution than what this video is promoting. If you're' using a RASA or Hyperstar? Again, far better choices out there that are considerably less expensive with much greater compatibility.

      I see it in the same way. 100-250 Bucks is maybe ok for all the disadvantages you are getting with that soulution. If a want an standalone autoguider i take an mgen. For all other is an individual guiding scope with cam or oag the way better and in many other cases cheeper way.

    The Celestron AutoAlign can be used for SkyWatcher telescopes using an interface box. Does the same box work with this Autoguider, or is a similar box planned for the future?

    I just spent three days trying to get phd2 and a starshoot Orion guide cam to function properly, and its just took the fun completely out of the hobby. The phd2 is way too complicated to enjoy, and the way it has to integrate with countless ascom drivers and endless calibrations and settings, I was exasperated. I have loved my star sense auto align, and own three...one for each telescope, and to this day theyre the best accessory Ive ever purchased for my astrophotography. So when I was fruitlessly seeking answers on forums about the phd2 and guide cam fiasco, I saw Celestron had created this accessory, and just went and ordered it from B and H. Im wanting to start doing over 3 minutes and thats just not realistically possible with an AVX, so hopefully this will help me reach a new level of astrophotos, and bring the fun back into my hobby. Ill update this comment with a review video on my astro channel, Angstrom Management, so fingers crossed and into a new realm, thanks Celestron, youve been my goto for over 40 years of telescoping fun!

    I don't even think my old StarSense even works. The software isn't picking it up as an option when I boot it up. I just ordered this. I didn't realize I would lose my ability to track objects in the sky using the StarSense. The motor doesn't move at all when I slew it to an astral body like it used to when I did the manual alignment.

    If that is true and you want more people to enjoy the night sky. Why do the starsense and autoguider cost so much? especially the autoguider it cost as much as the se 6 telescope itself. Really it should come with the telescope especially the se 6 and the se 8. You know they are needed and for what those telescope cost the autoguider should be included.
