    I had an idea of a scribes wizard that uses a needle instead of a quill to make spells as tattoos on your skin instead of in a book. Adding to the manifest mind Cortana from Halo is a good option.

      In D&D 3.5 there was a creature called Runic Guardian on the Monster Manual II that said it would need it's entire body marked with runes to have tier 7 spell Soo . . . Yeah the closest thing we have to official rules for tattoo spells don't look good. But hey if you you talk a little with your DM you could also gain innate casting of a 7th level spell once per long rest. Or you could have extra: 1 1st level, 2nd level, 2rd level and 1 5th level spell.

    • @CakeorDeath1989
      @CakeorDeath1989 10 месяцев назад

      Cool idea. You could really create a more dark and sinister character by leaning into the body horror element. Say, the tattoos burn themselves away, including the surrounding skin, when the spell is used. The Scribe has to tattoo themselves again during rest periods. Your spell slots are literally your limbs, and higher level spells require larger areas of flesh to be tattooed over.

    I love scribes wizard so, so much. One thing I want to try at some point is multiclassing three or four levels of monster slayer ranger for the Hunter's Sense feature, which lets you straight-up force the DM to tell you which damage types a monster is resistant, immune, or vulnerable to -- admittedly pretty MAD, but if you go custom-origin half-elf you can take the standard array and still start with a 16 Intelligence and 14 each in Dexterity, Constitution, and Wisdom.

  • @robertparshall9807
    @robertparshall9807 Год назад +9

    Every one makes the same mistake. It's not the level of the spell you are casting, it's the level of the spell slot you are using. Example fireball cast with a third level slot you could use damage type of third level spells. But fireball upcast to a fifth level slot you could use damage only from fifth level spells, such as psychic, necrotic, or force, (synaptic static, negative energy flood, or steel wind strike).

    I have a few ideas.
    The Amnesiac: You were once a great wizard, however, you lost your memory. No worries, you had a contingency for this. You have stored your memories into various magic items that guide you along your journey. One of which is your awakened spellbook. As the campaign goes on, you slowly get your memories back.
    The Apprentice: You have taken on the study of magic. The only trouble is, your Master got themselves trapped inside a book.
    The Conduit: This one requires another wizard player. The Awakened Spellbook is a fantasy device that psychically links both you and the other Wizard. This allows you to share knowledge. Make sure you or the other wizard has the Sending cantrip. Grab a bunch of knowledge skills (especially Arcana) and grab the skill expert feat to gain expertise. Now use that spell book to send information between you and the other wizard.
    The Monk: This takes more of a martial arts theme, only you are using intelligence instead of wisdom. The spell book is a series of mystical martial arts techniques passed down through the ages. Your spells are cast through a bunch of seemingly mundane items such as rings, a quarterstaff, and a cloak. However, each of these items is in fact sentient. Basically, you're playing Dr Strange.
    The Multiverse Scholar: You are a person who can enter a multiversal mind link through your dreams that connects multiple worlds. The knowledge of various races can be found in this realm, allowing you to access these places. Your Spell Book helps you connect with these places and access this information.

    So my Scribe story ties in with my background, Cloistered Scholar. Cloistered scholar lists some libraries or Sage Houses that you were taught in. So I thought of this(his name’s Kleo) Kleo would always read rather than play as a young child. While in a library, he wandered into a restricted section, and found an Eldritch tome. After trying to perform a ritual that was too high level, he was ripped away from his home and teleported to an unknown location. After some wandering and living on the street, he found that the city he was in was Silverymoon. He was taken in by the Map House, and started his Wizard training there. After training for 7 years, he became a sort of ambassador for the Map House, and now wanders the world experimenting with magic and furthering the knowledge of the arcane.

    I made a Scribes wizard with the entertainer background, a musician who seeks to understand complicated arcane sigils through song and lyric. His spellbook was a repertoire of songs, each a different spell whose melody translated to magic. His awakened mind was a cascading string of notes, and he could transmute the damage of his spells by thinking of different ways to play the song in his head, ie different instruments, dynamics, tempo, or key signature. Going by your naming idea, I’d call his archetype the Arcane Composer

    I play in a local clubs game, a gnome order of scribes wizard who was previously an archaeologist focused on Dragons.
    He became a professor at the Greyhawk university museum aswell as the acting head-librarian, and so he went on regular expeditions to excavations.
    One of the excavations lead to an ancient dragon-cult library where there was indeed a dragon bound to a spellbook, the bronze-scaled monster itself sealed away to the aethereal plane, in an exact copy of the ancient library while it was still active.
    Now the bronze dragon (LN), lives and travels alongside my wizard bound in the spellbook and teaching the gnome professor the secrets of the arcane along their travels together.
    Its a 5e Spelljammer campaign, so I doubt the Greyhawk Uni will ever see their head-archaeologist again soon...

I love being able to instantly cast certain Rituals, especially since my DM's setting is one of planar travel, and we have a scroll that can return us when we need to that we can use through a 10 minute ritual. A ritual that my character can use with his ability. We haven't had to use it yet, but just having the option makes us bold and makes us commit to fights that have been tense and amazing.

    Im playing a gnome scribes wizard (with one level in order cleric) in a campaign right now.
    A pickle merchant who prepares his spells by cooking his spell components into pickled eggs. The pickled egg jar glows during casting and if you look closely, the eggs turn to planets and the cloudy herbs and spices turn to galaxies in the jar.
    His families fortune comes from thier secret, a tree in the swamp with a tiny star in its trunk. The remnants of a smite from a long dead god. Through research the family found that it could be used to gain access to the powers and secrets of the clerics with out devoting your self to a willful or petty God. There are plenty of long dead gods and great heroes who have transcend to constellations in the sky. Dead gods and heroes aren't using this power. What harm could it do? They call this power source The Celestial Compost.

    Loved this idea: your wizard is a mute that has a powerful grimwar that currently is a +1 to attach and saves but with enough study and practice can become the legendary +3.
    This spell book has been lost for ages and kills anyone who opens it, so when you find it you as a scribe wizard are able to manifest the souls of those your spell book has killed and you roll play them.
    Because the wizard can’t talk you play the manifested mind and translate what the super intelligent wizard is trying to tell everyone and participate in the verbal part of each spell
    I picture this as a surfer dude, valley girl, or old farmer who can’t make the wizard too mad cause they don’t get to experience life if they aren’t manifested but the wizard can’t communicate or cast spells if they aren’t happy with him.

The mind in the book isn't entirely his own creation, it's made with the spirit of an ancestor. When he reaches 14 that bonus on arcana checks will basically be fragments of memories of the spirit's past life. The rest of its consciousness is used up with animating the quill and storing knowledge in case the book ia destroyed and it needs to be resummoned into another.

    I've got a Half Elf, Half Thri-Kreen character for a Spelljammer Campaign named Luna Actias (Part of her appearance & her full name's based on the Luna Moth). Her personality is basically Elle Woods & Keyleth of Vox Machina in that she's very bubbly, out-going, &, although a bit ditzy, can be very wise for her age. Initially I was gonna go for the "Familiar" route with a bit of a Warlock feel in that Luna's familiar is actually her accidental patron disguised as her familiar. But, then I realized it completely against her morals & "No Cheat Codes" Mantra.
    So now I might go with the "Carver" Build, but, because Moth Jokes about Moths being attracted to lamps, I wanted lights, more specifically candles, to be her power source, so I might be going for a candlemaker feel for the "Carver" build. The candles themselves are a different color corresponding with either the element or magic school (I.E: Illusion, Conjuration, Divination) & her awakened spellbook is basically Madame Leota from "The Haunted Mansion" but with a more Man in the Moon feel rather than ghostly feel.

    I really like your videos. But the background music is unnerving. One can’t concentrate with this doodling sound!!! Please stop using it!

    Why does everyone NOT READ the feature proper. To change the damage type, it's not the level of the spell. It's the level at which you cast the spell from the spell slot. Fireball cast with a third level slot can be changed to any other damage type type of third level. But upcast at fifth level spell slot, you use a damage type of fifth level spell. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU MAKE A VIDEO. You have good ideas, but learn the features. Magic missile cast at 5th level slot can be damage type changed to any type of 5th level spell.
