The way all the features of the Scribes wizard feed into each other makes it probably the best designed wizard subclass.
There's lots of spells people never cast that can feed the capstone. Witch bolt is just one that jumps to mind. You cast it once, realize it kills your action economy, and never again. Now it helps tank damage for you once a week. Same with spells that stop being useful 4 levels after you get them. Sleep, levitate, cause fear, warding wind, anything with a greater or mass version later down the line.
But how do you learn all these terrible spells? With the level 2 features that let you copy 30 levels worth of spells in 30 minutes instead of a couple days worth of downtime.
What benefits do you get from having so many spells? Well your fireball can now deal damage of any element that any of your other 3rd level spells deal. So pick up glyph of warding and vampiric touch. Later on pick up prismatic wall and psychic scream to give a bunch of damage options to your meteor swarm.
Basically, you can be like Infinite in Sonic Forces by changing the bludgeoning damage of meteor swarm to the illusory psychic damage, thereby tricking everyone into feeling scorched ☀️🔥😈
Also been playing a scribe's wizard. Most fun I've ever had playing a wizard.
When you mentioned talking books I also thought of Pagemaster. It was a wild movie for sure.
Fun fact: having Chromatic Orb as a spell in your spellbook, gives you access to choose any type of damage for your spells.

This may be cheating, but here goes. Take the Summon Fey Spell. Turn your Fireball into a Forceball or Piercingball.

Carrot wizard. His spellbook's awaken mind is a glowing carrot. Honestly, I think Brian fixated on the bunny wizard aspect and not on the scribes wizard like he was supposed to. Note: Rabbit hop is not movement. Cast jump and you can hop 45 ft as a bonus action.
The spellbook from Hocus Pocus doesn’t talk but it opens to pages on its own and levitates to you when you call it.
All his spells really could be carrots….as long as he has a bludgeon or force based spell, change all spell damage to that and it’s the force of the carrots that cause it. 🥕
You could make a bunch of scrolls of different spells, then when you stop yourself from dying you can relearn the spells with the scrolls you have saved

Made a Forest Gnome Wizard who got possessed by an ifrit when trying to find a way to further empower his magic. So now he is an evocation wizard who deals almost exclusively with fire magic.
I expected how did scrawn become a wizard? The local library!

I like how this wizard is the anti-damage-immunity class. Now add some rogue levels, and your shadow blade’s sneak attack can change into any damage, like a sonic blade shoved right in the ear 💥👂📢 Or make a multi-catapult spell by replacing the damage of “scorching ray” with piercing!
There are two different scroll-related features. You get to create a spell scroll for free that only you can use.
You also become proficient in crafting scrolls. These scrolls are normal scrolls that can be used by anyone who has the spell in their spellbook.
Isn't a garden wizard a druid?
Nah. He basically just built Peter Rabbit as a wizard.
For some reason my mind went to Navi and Link. An annoying companion seems like a great DM tool.

This makes me think Ink mage,
Imagine a bookworm mage meets an anti social tattoo artist.
Traveling around with phials strapped to him that are filled with ink that was ground and mixed with the spell components he needs for each spell. His spells tend to appear as shifting black (or other) liquid forming ice, shapes or even fire *like the black flames from naruto everytime he casts fireball*
But also it leans out of the typical nerdy dimension and into potentially a more artistic character giving more to the narrow scope of the wizard class.
The idea of a character wanting to be a magical tattooist also could work with this subclass.

the level 6 feature is crazy. find room full of baddies, cast arcane lock on the door, drop Sickening Radiance from your Manifest Mind or summon some demons... good fun... maybe evil though.. guess it depends on how many carrots the baddies tried to steal
I'm playing a scribes wizard who is an artist and so them transmuting their spells is like using a different colour of paint
This video certainly took a turn there at the end I mean technically you can have a women or man for that matter do that … nope nope nope not going to say a thing people will just have to go though and find it themselves
My scribes wizard just got dragoned to death. Had a blast playing him though!
Your book becomes a tablet or smart phone with built in assistant, like siri. And siri can cast fireball.
