Makes me miss that part of the country. Left northern New Mexico 7 years ago. Some of the best scenery around, made better by train.

As a former brakeman/fireman on the D&S, these are wonderful shots of the railroad encapsulating the sights and sounds of the trains and scenery! Great stuff 👌

Been several years since I spent time on the DSNG. Nice to know some things don't change a whole lot. Not too crazy about the diesel, but if that's what it take to keep the trains running I guess it'll have to do. Loved the drone shots.

I think it’s a life goal to see or ride this in the winter snow. Went to Colorado last two winters and both times had to visit big boy 4005 and closely observed the narrow gauge line up in the mountains outside of Denver. We’re those lines once connected to the D&S?

Awesome footage. Question ❓ where was this taken? How narrow are the narrow gauge tracks? And around what year were the tracks laid around the mountain side? I love these steam train videos 🔥🤘

This was taken in Colorado. The tracks are 3ft gauge, and laid in the late 1870s/early 1880s.

I have a great idea for the future. If they really want more tourists to come, why don’t they run 2 steam trains to Silverton at 8:30 and 9:15. Then use the diesel for a cascade canyon run at 10:00 during the Silverton season.

They need to fix the bell on the 480

Ummm, If I may, steam trains run on steam (Duh!), some Class 1 railroads run steam using oil firing, not coal, notably SP and Santa Fe to name just two. Why the hysteria when oil replaces coal for raising steam? It's still the same process, just different fuel. C'mon folks let's not get too carried away about a method which would kill our forests and doom future steam operations...
