    I find it amazing that so much is being done to save a town that is right on the fissure line, as was evidenced with the first eruption which unzipped the thing right up to the edge of town.
    The plates are moving apart as they have thru all recorded history and as observed Geological History, mainly to the north now, but considering the continuing magma buildup and current lava flows, it is only a matter of time until the section under the town moves too.
    The drama is fine, makes good press, sells ads.
    But I think we should take "Continental Drift" seriously.
    Somebody once said, The race goes not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way we bet the horses.

    As the ice caps melt, the redistribution of mass on the Earth's surface could cause deformations in the crust and mantle, potentially affecting the movement of magma beneath the surface.
    This could lead to increased volcanic activity in regions like Iceland, which are already prone to eruptions due to their location along tectonic plate boundaries.
    So it appears as the tectonic plates move and convection currents in the mantle increase in strength ripping Iceland apart causing multiple eruptions that could cover all of Iceland in lava. This is the future I see for Iceland

    I've been following your updates on this since it first started and I really fear for the people of Grindavik. When all this started there was a big crack that opened right in the town and is in line with the fissures that keep growing and moving closer to the town. That crack is a path to another fissure coming alive right in town. That one little fissure that took out three homes should have been the biggest warning that this is not going to turn out good. Reopening the Blue Lagoon is not one of the best choices as it just puts more people in danger. I do hope I am wrong but I highly doubt this will all be over in July. Thanks again for the updates Silki and stay safe. 🙂

    Searching for who owns the Blue Lagoon, I found ( and excuse my English keyboard characters) Grimur Saemundsen is identified as it's owner. Their key tenet is reported to be "wellbeing for people and planet". I did not realize treatment for psoriasis is one of its promises with a psoriasis clinic on site since 1994 and that skin products were also marketed. Hoping for the best. Edit: there is an article about him from August 20, 2014 titled "In Iceland, A Doctor Making A Killing." That article identifies him as the Director but not owner.

    Ironically this morning when I checked my weather app there was some little news blip about the Blue Lagoon reopening yesterday. All I could think about was that Silki is going to have a feild day over it. You did not disappoint either 😂 I have to say that I am genuinely sad for the people of Grindavik who are loosing their town. But someone made a good point a while back. Who had the grand idea to put a town on an old volcanic lava bed without considering the volcano to begin with? I know it wss dorment for 800 yrs but was there anything that said it was dead? I fear if things do settle down again that the people will come back and the citation will just happen again at a later date. I hope they find a resolution to this soon. The volcano may throw us another curve ball and it may not be pretty. Aside from maybe a crack opening up under the pool at the Blue Lagoon and darining it for them. Now that would get some attention. Everyone goes to sleep then in the morning the water in the pool is gone. That would entertaing. I might go out and buy a horse trough to sit in and watch the show with my morning cup of chai. I'm blonde and have a homestead. I don't have horses but maybe I can convise my ducks and goose to chill out with me. Especially since we are under exterme heat watch.😜

    Why can't the lava pools be artificially cooled and solidified? Plenty of water available.

    • @silki24
      @silki24  25 дней назад

      that could divert the lava for a while but the craters would get more explosive if you throw water at it

      @@silki24 Not the craters, the lava pools.

    Now it maybe becomes more critical than bevor....
    If there builds up something like a caldera along the eruption fissure, than the ground is broken to small pieces that can move ! But they can also block the magma chanel and so on, and the next erruption than can be on an completely other place !

    The magma chamber reached its highest level in recent history and pressure buildup caused flow to slow down until the eruption. Now that the pressure is no longer there, it may only be a matter of time before flow of fresh magma into the chamber melts and abrades the feed tunnel back to full flow capacity. Kilometers of tunnels from the mantle to the chamber is a lot of inertia, viscosity and friction to work through.
