URGENT Volcano Update - The Eruption in Iceland Might be About to Start at Sundahnúkar
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- Residents in the Icelandic fishing village of Grindavík have already started to leave their homes, although the Civil Defense has not requested it, but the reason is an extremely powerful earthquake swarm and some experts, but not all, expect an eruption to take occur in hours rather than days. Even Reykjavik has been shaking all night and the situation is extremely tense. It was decided today to cut some of the red tape and start to make lava barriers tonight, but it's not helping that the Highway to Grindavik was damage tonight, but it's sure it will be opened soon. A coast guard ship is now on it's way to Grindavik.
I will add information here until my next update and expect is to be after the eruption starts since things are moving that way for sure.
Update 23:00 GMT
A lateral dyke is now forming according to scientists, meaning that the magma found a way up, or at lest until the next stop. The meteorological office thinks the eruption will come up by the north end of the Sundahnúkar crater row, but Prof. Ármann Höskuldsson is however expecting it to come up where the land uplift peaked, or by the Illahraun craters by the Blue Lagoon, before noon tomorrow.
Update 23:40 GMT
Grindavik will be evacuates immidietly due to the fissure that runs trough town and might possibly erupt. You can see it in my full Grindavik video: • Grindavik - Volcano To...
Update Nov 11th 11:00 GMT
The town is now without electricity and the civil defence will hold a meeting at 12:00 and I will make a new update right after it's over. The displacement in the ground is up to 120cm and the magna intrusion took off offshore, so a submarine eruption is one of the scenarios we face now.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
The situation appears to have rapidly changed, and in my opinion an eruption is now more likely than not. And only as of yesterday I thought the opposite was the case.
I saw your video , it's crazy how quickly things can change.ive never seen an earthquake Swarm on volcano discovery, like this. Its absolutely fascinating but scary for the locals. I'm a huge fan of your work and also Gylfi's. It's great you both have a vibe going. Geology is so interesting.
That's why one should be careful with these kinds of forecasts.
Yeah, was following this story on your channel as well. Even before today, I was really shocked at just how fast this whole thing has developed. We're already at the "bracing for possible impact" stage, yikes.
You made your best observation, it's all you can do. I was thinking the same as it was mostly a sill intrusion moving laterally. Now however the quakes are getting shallower and spread over a wider area.
I subscribe to your channel too. You two are the best.
Praying for you and everyone there in Grindavik. Hoping they are heeding the warning and evacuating now
watching from the Westfjords and hoping all stay safe... it's just been a crazy evening
I wish you well. A swarm of this intensity cannot continue without something giving.
Thank you Gylfi for the update! I was waiting to hear directly from your channel rather than any where else. Take care!!
Thanks Gylfi for your updates on the volcano, stay safe.
Thank you for the updates, but please stay safe
Please stay safe Gylfi. I wish everyone the very best in these scarey times. As you said you could see the earthquakes on the webcams so I was really worried for what might happen. Thank you for your good work and take care.
We’re on our way home from visiting your beautiful country. We are heartbroken with what’s happening. We’d have love to see an eruption BUT NOT at the expense of people and animals losing their lives or homes. (You know like an eruption away from any farms towns etc) We’re glad as tourists that we are out of the way leaving resources open for the people of Iceland. Watch your channel for updates several times a day. Thank you!!
I am so sorry that you have the flu at this critical time. Please keep in mind that influenza can have devastating consequences to your health. I am disabled because of it from 1994. You need to guard yourself from it and the volcano and earthquakes. I will say extra prayers for you and your loved ones. God bless all of you. ❤
You Icelandic are a very strong folk.
What ever happens, you will rebuild it better. Perhaps there will be an other lagoon soon.
Thanks once again, Gylfi. This one seems a lot more grim. Take care & be safe.
We honeymooned in Iceland in September and absolutely fell in love with the island, the people, and especially the food! Our best wishes for everyone in the area for their safety!
Take care of yourself. God bless you and all the people in this region.
May God bless and keep all the people affected by this situation.
Thinking of you and wishing you well. Please be safe.
Thanks for the update. Stay safe!
Thanks, will do!
Stay safe Gylfi and all in Grindavik.
Thank you
Stay safe and well Gylfi! The flu is no fun. It knocked me down the first few days of the week. Best wishes to all affected.
Take care!
Thank you
What a horrible time to get sick! I hope you feel better soon and please stay safe!
Hoping everyone is safe and there is no loss of property for people.
Thank you
Be safe. Thank you for keeping us well informed. From Washington State, US, not far from Mt, St. Helens.
Feel better soon, & stay safe!
Thank you for the update. Stay safe
Thanks for the update..hope everyone will be fine in the end.
Hope so!
Hi,thanks for the footage and i hope you will be well soon.Greetings from Germany
Thank you very much!

There is a crack bump on the Road to Grindavik and I can see a lot of cars…..Maybe it would be a Good idea to change the Road to your destination! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!❤
Please take care!
Praying for you all
Thanks for the information. Please stay safe
Thank you, I will
Thank you for these updates, keeping you all in mind and hoping for the best outcomes.
Keep safe everyone.
Blessings dear one.
Thank you ! Take care 💛💛💛🌟
Thank you, I will
Bless you brother ❤
Be safe!
Please be safe.
be safe !
First, be careful and stay safe.
Hopefully there will be no eruption there but nature might have other plans.
Let’s hope for the best.
Any recommendations on reputable icelandic charities? Those families are going to need housing for the immediate future. I know w iceland has a better situation there than most but the world would like to help.
Holy moly, theres nowhere to go! there should be some huge cruiseships offshore soon, or at least ready to go, with special forces enabling a Dunkirk type evac - this whole landscape could be lava...I used to live in the lee of a dormant volcano, and had an escape plan should the lava come. Get to the sea, 10k away, get in a boat, (my Brother in-laws) and watch from a safe distance. Its scary, you have to have a way out people!
Stay safe
I heard your cold or flu immediately. You sound so rough 😢 Nooooo. Please take good care. Plus Zinc 30mg and Vitamin D3 10000. Units in Europe are different though. Hot ,hot tea, honey lemon and brandy if you like that. Especially the brandy at bedtime. I'm so sorry you are not well. Feel better Fast 💙💙
Sounds like you catched a cold, Gylfi ? We then drink, and it helps a lot: cut a bit of ginger in pieces (not much just some snippets), some fresh citrus juice from one lemon, pour about .5 litres of hot water over that and let it sit some minutes, sweeten with honey, drink. Hope you can get the ingredients over there ?
Sounds like you have a cold... 🤔
Get well soon 🤞
Have you attempted to get the thermal drone out, I hear they have banned drones in case one causes a catastrophic eruption.
Stay safe Gylfi. You and everyone in Iceland and Grindavik are in our thoughts at this time. This is looking really bad
Amen.I am praying for God to protect Grindavik 😢
@Kitty39ish but if it is gods plan to remove grindavik then you are working against gods plan.
@@earthlymatters888 Prayers are not working against God's plan. They are mere requests, even if they don't create the answer you were wanting or expecting.
I’m traveling there in 2 days looking forward to it
Has it erupted
I don't think I've ever seen an earthquake Swarm like the one ongoing right now. Thoughts with everyone in Iceland tonight, I hope if it erupts then everyone is safe . Take care Gylfi
I really appreciate your hard work on giving the world a front row seat to the excitement. Stay safe.
Yes, I feel the same way. Thanks for all you do. Stay safe. ❤
Thoughts for icelanders. 🙏
Thank you Gylfi. Please don't take risks to bring footage. Your safety is more important to us. Best wishes from England.
Yes, I agree!
Agreed.
Only reasonable risk is loss of equipment like remote operated cameras or drones, not worth to lose your life over an expected event.
Stay safe out there, hoping for the best possible outcome for all the locals.
I'm always so excited to see new vids from you, Gylfi, come up on my notifications. This time it's blended with a little anxiety. Please, all Icelanders , stay safe.
Be safe Gylfi, thanks for keeping the English speaking world informed.
I live in Innri-Njarðvík and this earthquake swarm was the most terrifying event I've experienced in my life. I never thought before today that the earth could shake so violently and constantly for hours. Well I guess living less than 10 kilometers from the epicenter of the swarm really hits hard 😂
Yes wow, what a day and good luck getting some sleep
@@JustIcelandic It's still shaking non-stop, looks like no sleep tonight. There's an article just out on MBL, were Ármann Höskuldsson is predicting an eruption in 4-6 hours, by tomorrow noon max. Also thinks the location of the eruption is not going to be at Sundhnúkagíga like others are predicting.
Hey gylfi, thanks for your work and stay safe! 🙏
About the text in the upcoming video: don't worry too much! If you have recorded things like "the volcano may erupt" don't worry about it being out of date. Just put a short sentence on the beginning saying it was recorded before the swarm on the 11th or the eruption.
Don't let this minor thing bog you down on the fantastic work you are currently doing. We understand the situation is very dynamic!
Wishing safety for all you folks up there in volcano island!
Thanks, dear Gylfi ! I'm 100% confident that you very clever people in Grindavik and Iceland will go through this mess with minimal damage. Remember Heymaey, you managed this huge eruption like f**g champions!!
Thank you for this, Gylfi. Prayers & best wishes for the people possibly affected. 🇨🇦
Sending love and hope to all in Iceland. From Michigan, US ❤
Thank you for the update, i've been anticipating what you would have to say as you are my main go to for any information..stay safe to you and all Iceland xx
Thanks you for keeping us informated. My thoughts are with the people in Grindavik and around there. 😢 Hoping the best. Stay safe.
Hi I’m someone who was living in Keflavik when the whole swarm happened and I gotta say I felt a lot of terror and fear during those dreadful minutes and my family and I were glued to the phones, computers for any news and the webcams etc
Please take good care of yourself, Gylfi, get well soon and take all the time you need to recover. Your health is more important than the most exciting volcano vid. Best wishes from Germany
Stay safe Gylfi, I saw on MBL.is the road into Grindavik has damage as an eartquake pushed asphalt upward. Tonight has multiple ~5 on the Richter scale earthquakes so please stay safe. This might be a bigger event than the three other recent eruptions in the region
I saw pic not sure location of crossways rd pic monster crack. But for sure it is Route 43 that is closed
Thanks for the quick update Gylfi. Stay safe!
My thoughts are with everyone in Grindavik.Thinking back to when the first eruptions happened in the Penisula, I wondered how long it would be before this lovely little town was affected. stay safe everyine.❤
Stay safe! And thanks for the quick update!
Thank you for the update. Please be safe 💞
Stay at a safe distance my Icelandic friend thanks for your prompt update good hunting from the uk 🇬🇧 😊😊😊
Good luck, stay safe, and thanks for keeping us informed.
Glyfi, please take care of your health first and get better fast! Thank you for all your updates and information. The constant shaking must be so stressful. Hugs.
Beeee careful. The quakes have been loosening rocks, big ones. Keep an eye on elevated features and slopes.
Be safe and feel better soon xxxx thank you 🙏🏻
It's both exciting and worrisome hope everyone will be safe. Buildings can be replaced but not lives.
Stay safe and get some rest for your cold while you can. I‘m hoping for the best for you and everyone on the Reykjanes peninsula.
I visited the Reykjanes Peninsula, and it is beautiful. Stay safe.
Stay safe my friend. We all appreciate the work you do bringing us the news.
Take care Gylfi, I hope the flu goes very quickly. This looks like quite a big event based upon the seismicity today...but we will see.
I hope evacuation has already been done. Prayers
Thank you Gylfi for your informative videos. Hoping everyone stays safe.❤
I hope so too!
Stay safe and pay attention! And remember, the first eruption was far away from Grindavik and before there was the same scenario and anyone put Grindavik at risk. Maybe the magma likes it more to do the old ways. I hope so. Thanks and greetings from Germany!
Stay safe, Gylfi/I have been keeping my eye on the eathquakes and cameras over the last six hours or so. I've been expecting something but so far it looks like the magma is just moving eastwards and looking for a place to erupt. It might even go eastwards towards mount Kelir and come up somewhere around there as I see there are occasional quakes centred around the previous eruption zones. Its a bit of guesswork. I would not like to be living in Grindavik as they must have been feeling every one of those quakes (1400+ in the last 24 hours). Regards
Stay Safe Gylfi and anyone else who could be affected
Awwww man....crappy time to be sick for you! Will be watching and hoping you and your fellow countryman all stay safe! Love from Canada...
Ahh, that potential eruption location is HORRIBLE. Right above the town. Certainly praying that the town is spared, whatever happens. Again, thanks for the update!
I'm a new subscriber but thank you for these updates and please stay safe
Stay safe Gylfi! Thank you for the update. I hope your cold gets better.
All of my thoughts goes to Icelanders and Iceland ! Take care and I really pray hard for you all!!
all the best from France
Jed
Be safe Gylfi...I hope the town and the Blue Lagoon and the power plant is OK! Glad we were able to see her while she slept in Sept! ;)
🌱🌏💚 KiaOra Gylfi. Thank you very much for prompt updates. Take care and be safe Iceland!
Watching and praying for all from Florida, US.
🙏 Thank you!
Stay safe Gylfi, I'm monitoring the situation, I hope mother nature is friendly and is transporting the magma to the north (away from the city). Thanks for the update, congratulations on the work.
Thanks, it's been reported that a vertical dyke is forming now, so it's on the way up now....
Tack för att du gör det möjligt för oss att följa detta. 🌸
Thank you for this information I am sorry about your friends homes and the port. Hopefully everyone will be safe, it hasn't happened yet so there is still some time.
Please look after yourself and dont get too cold. Best regards from the UK
Wish you speedy recovery, thank you again for letting us know the latest. Hope everybody is safe.
Please?? "Recovery", is he ill or hurt?
@@spocksdaughter9641 i think he has the flu
@@spocksdaughter9641 • I heard that he's got a bad cold or the flu. Hoping he'll feel better soon. 🙏
This must be so stressful for everyone there. Hopefully nothing major happens.
Sending prayers to Grindavik. Sending energy to Gaia to move the eruption to a safe place. 🙏🕯️💜
Thanks for the update. Stay safe, Gylfi. Takk fyrir.
Thank you for your work to bring us this fantastic footage and insight into the current happenings in Iceland!
Hey Gylfi, please make sure, that it‘s only a light flu and not something more serious. The eruption will last a few weeks and there will be lots of footage to shoot, but as I can see with my dad a lung infection can get very serious very quickly.
