Suikoden 1, 2, and 5 are some of my all-time favorite games. I'm so excited to play Eiyuden Chronicle eventually. Thanks for a great video!
Hope you enjoy it when you play it!
Good video, I’ve been very curious from some good peeps (one that you probably shared “screens” with in a collab) about it being made by the former Suikoden team (May he rest in peace, Murayama)
And yeah glad to hear it’s pretty good, I still personally want to wait for the Suikoden Remasters to drop in, to get the full experience and then play this afterwards, as obviously this is a Spiritual Successor
Quite wait to play this one! Wasn’t a backer but have been looking forward to it for years!
Loved the Suikoden games growing up. Found Suikoden I on clearance for about $10 back then.
Great video Erek! ✅
RIP Muriyama
I completely missed this campaign! Would’ve happily backed had I realized it though. Highly recommend this one!! Once I finish this I’ll be even more excited to check out Suikoden 1 & 2.
@@ErekLadd yes sir! Suikoden 1&2 are sooo good!! Can’t wait to play the remasters. I’m planning on doing some Suikoden perler beading project videos soon!
Awesome review. I backed the game on Kickstarter. I have been playing for about 35 hours on PS5, loving it so far. Just to help out there is fast travel, you need to recruit a character first and it will unlock. There is also a world map, press the story button and it should tell say what button to switch from there to the map.
Without spoiling it, is it a character you acquire naturally through story progression? Or is there a side quest
@@DietersYT It’s an auto recruit. As I played Suikoden, when I saw the way they turned up I knew how they would act in the game.
@@Butterfly617 thanks
Ok awesome. Thank you for that! Seems a bit too far into the game to unlock something like that but that’s just me 🤣
I need a Pokémon game in these graphics
I know right!! If only we could get that!
must buy i agree, 9 out of 10
Hit the map button for the map. There’s both a world map and a local map
Now to wait for that physical release on Switch, lol. Great video man, loved it 👏
Do you know if they plan to patch it on Switch?
I heard the performance is lacking, with FPS consistently in the mid-20s and 5 second load times for all battles (which may not seem like a lot on the surface, but imo really starts to add up in a game like this…I had to table Final Fantasy 9 on Switch for that exact reason).
I’ve been looking for news about a patch but not finding much. Would love to get this game, specifically on Switch. I have a PS5 too, but I like to play old school JRPGs on the go. If it weren’t for the performance concerns, I’d instantly buy.
Thanks dude!!
@@DietersYT I'm sure there'd be a patch eventually, so fingers crossed!
There IS fast travel and knowing Suikoden like I do, there's probably a rune lens that lets you run fast.
There is an item in one of the first dungeons called dash boots that you cN equip and makes you run a lot faster
Ok good to know!!
@@roninronreacts1870 I might have missed that. Will backtrack and see if I can find!
@@ErekLadd in the abandoned mine, towards the end, NW corner of map where the well ladder is located, I think
@@ErekLadd Yeah... this is a game where you have to earn the QOL features XD.
Absolutely looks and sounds like a lot of fun, also very time consuming 😂Well, maybe one day
It’s super fun! I got the game up and running ing Thursday and managed to put 20 hours in by Monday. Don’t ask me how I pulled that off 😳 Highly recommend it!
Definitely pre-ordered this as someone who STILL thinks Suikoden II is one of the greatest JRPGs of all time.
This game looks incredible but I’ll admit I’m a bit hesitant to get it right away…I’m definitely freaked out that there isn’t an easy mode 😂 … I know that’s silly but I’ve heard it a bit tricky sometimes so I am going to wait for now.
The normal mode is easy enough for me! I usually pick the easiest difficulty just to digest the story and this works fine. Battles are paced really well and not overwhelming in terms of random encounters so I think it would be ok!
@@ErekLadd Oh good! It’s all story for me, I’m never into hard hard battles lol
ive been playing it for hours before official launch, pick the normal mode. its not that hard, youll get a lot of healing items and revive as well, just take note of the characters actions during boss fights, look at the top of your screen to see when is the best time to pick the gimmick action.
I'm playing it on hard, and it's honestly not very hard at all. I can't imagine how it'd be on normal. Suikoden was always an easy series so it makes sense though.
Eiyuden suffers from the same lack of challenge that Suikoden overall suffered. It appears the developers have always been bad at adjusting the challenge of their games. Suikoden 2 is my favorite, but I think that one is among the easiest, outside of Luca's ambush battle, I don't imagine another part that could trigger a Game Over even for an inexperienced player.
The only Suikoden that keeps a good challenge from start to finish (and can even be overwhelming for newcomers) is Suikoden 3.
play suikoden 2, it was GOT before the GOT series 😂
We will see... After Trails to Azure I will start this game
There will be a fast travel at some point btw.
Apparently there is a bug too
Ok good to know!
@@ErekLadd I downloaded the game and so far, there isn't a lack of battles in the over world or dungeons. I wonder if encounter rate lessons if folk do hard mode.
@@ErekLadd just so you know the switch version is horrendous.
Lagging menus , loading screen failures, and crashes.
2 hours of cutscense and no auto saves what so ever.
I am not going to be double dipping just to play it again on a console that can actually keep up.
Disappointed and I'm never that judgemental about a game what so ever.
Yes good.
Good yes.
I wonder what the odds are of them patching in fast travel? Sounds like they’re going for authenticity over convenience
It's an interesting one. While I understand why people want fast travel, Suikoden always made you wait before the option became available. To me, fast travel in RPGs can spoil the sense of immersion if you get it too soon.
I don’t think they would patch at it, so it would be by design without it. That’s ok! Would be nice but I can live without it.
@@Infundibular I can confirm this game has it’s own version of Viki from Suikoden, as you played Suikoden you will know when you see the character.
Any word regarding a patch to address performance on the Switch? I’d buy the game there if they fixed it up.
I could just get the PS5 version…but this seems like a perfect game for on the go.
Plus: FF7 Rebirth, Helldivers 2 and Elden Ring are on PS5 so I’ve got plenty of games to play there already…😅
Yeah I really would like to play it on my Switch but not as it is now.
I know there is the day one patch but not sure if it fixes anything for the switch. Steam deck has been the best way for me to play on the go and hooked up to the TV though. Switch 2 can’t come soon enough now!
@@ErekLadd it’s not really a hardware issue. The switch can run OCTOPATH 2, Dragon Quest 11, and Pillars of Eternity perfectly well. More like the devs ran out of time to optimize the Switch version; it was an afterthought for them
I’m going to wait till the PS5 purchase for this one since I heard the switch version is not good / buggy,.
Did they patched the switch version?
They’re aware of the issues with the switch and have announced a performance patch on Twitter. Dont know if there’s been an ETA given but they said it’s highest priority right now. Hopefully soon!
@ErekLadd thanks for the info.
Personally, the game pales a lot in comparison with Suikoden, especially compared with S2 and S5.
They are trying to ride so hard on the name of Suikoden to get their sales. But the game is very inferior, imo.
Has a lot of issues that I personally didn't like it, and the localization was one of the worst offenders, the Voice acting is also very mediocre.
Unfortunately the SBI localization ruined this game for me. Completely butchered so many things and added things that made zero sense in context.
I actually just saw a bunch of people commenting on Twitter saying how the translation/localization was awful and how they’re not buying it because of that. I didn’t realize that was a thing so I need to look into it. I haven’t had any issues yet or noticed anything weird so I’m not sure honestly.
@@ErekLadd When they put American slang(In this case the girl calls a guy "CHUD") and talk about genders with golems, we have a problem. Still, shouldn't let these minor moments ruin an otherwise amazing game.
If 2 lines of text are going to stop from playing a game then you were never going to play it from the start. That or your giving the anti Hogwarts legacy people a run for being thin skinned.
@@ErekLaddjust a bunch of overly sensitive people trying to make a big deal out of nothing. I think they got riled up by a few RUclipsrs trying to push their narrative on others when they got triggered by a few phrases.
@@MacPhal1 there are over 30 examples of the clown from 505-games completely changing the meaning to insert his own politics and agenda. But sure, it's only two lines.
