Undoubtedly Terry Lin is a very experienced and popular Singer from Taiwan. I like his beautiful wide vocal range. He is always a cool and calm man. Prince Dimash respects him a lot and they have very cordial relationship.

Terry is also a great singer and I don't think he is weaker than Dimash. She should check more performances of him. He may shock you. He also has a very wide vocal range which allows him to hit super high notes. And he has been singing for almost 30 years so he is actually more experienced and has a maturer live performance than Dimash. Both of them are good singers.

I Love Dimash of course, but I started listening to Terry to see how he sounded. Terry Lin win 2nd place in Singer 2013. He is from Taiwan, China. He is 50++ of age now. His singing is ok as well. He attends Singer 2017 and gets fifth place. He accepted Dimash as his son.

OMG you react to Terry Lin!!! Thank you so much for your reaction! He was runner-up in the first season of Singer (he should have won that year) and he has always been one of my favorite Chinese singer. I don’t know what he ranked last year but it really doesn’t matter. He gave good performances.His voice is very distinct and clear, and even though he doesn’t pull those insane high notes like Dimash does, his overall tonal quality is beautiful and he has his own unique vocal techniques. I love the interaction between him and Dimash throughout the show. They clearly respect each other as artists. I like that "Writings on the Wall" as well. Infact, many others like "I surrender" in Chinese version, " Making love out of nothing at all " and other songs in Chinese/Mandarin are equally great to listen to.
FUN FACT: The Mandarin part has its lyrics adapted from a type of ancient Chinese poetry, dating back to 11th century AD. (often expressly for the purpose of being sung by musicians at the time).

I was blown away by how well a Chinese song blends with a traditional English ballad... of course back in the middle ages plenty of English songs were in Dorian mode which is similar to the Asian pentatonic scale.. :)
Dimash was second in 2017 and Terry was fifth. He is a very experienced singer with a softer head voice than Dimash and sings within his range beautifully and seems to prefer singing in the higher register with his head voice. Thanks for reacting to him. I would recommend "Writings on the wall" for your next reaction to him.

Have you checked out Hou Zun yet? If you like Terry Lin's head voice, you will love him. He's very traditional and his voice carries through the air like a flute. I also agree about watching Terry Lin sing Writings on the Wall. He is incredible. One of Dimash's favorite singers. 💕

Terry Lin put the Chinese song with Scarborough Fair together, because the lyrics have the same general meaning of longing and remembering a loved one. And of cause , the melodies match so well. When he appeared on the scene, the other singers remarked how much Dimash and Terry resemble each other in their appearance plus both can sing in the high range, hence papa to Dimash

Terry Lin was in 'I am a Singer Season 1 (2013)' from ep5 to final, 'Singer 2017' from ep5 to final. Quite a few for you to check out because all of them are pretty good. If you would like to listen to something modern yet classical Chinese style, you can try his performance in Singer 2013 ep6 and Singer 2017 ep7.

TraENT hi again sorry Terry did his Opera on singer 2013 not 2017. Up until now I liked Simon and Garfunkels version of Scarborough Fair best. (Not sure if you're old enough to remember them) Just found out the parts of the song in Mandarin are a separate song about a woman in love waiting for her lover to return and the heartache she is suffering. Don't know the title but it was sung by Huo Zun. That explains the surprise when he started to sing Scarborough Fair in English it was a totally different song. I think they tied nicely together. The singing in Mandarin about how much a woman misses her love and the part in English could be the lovers response with the impossible tasks that must be completed before she can become his true love. The first song is "Pearl Curtain, rolled up" and it is beloved in China. It very often is paired with Scarborough Fair, perhaps because the melody is so similar. Someone remarked on his physical appearance, as if he were homely. But women who hear him sing, find him intensely attractive, and he is a genuinely wonderful person.

Thank you for a great reaction. It is unfortunate Terry's talent is overlooked. I believe this performance is a combination of two songs:" Pearlised Curtains (Pearl-Decorated Curtain rolled up) and Scarborough Fair", which work perfectly together. Henry Huo Zun Singer 2018 performed this without Scarborough Fair. The song is hauntingly beautiful. Linked below is a earlier version by composer Henry Huo that has English subtitles.

I have listened his music more than 20 years and always love it. Terry Lin is a legend by himself and his music too, so don't call him as father Lin or Dimash's friend anymore.
I Once got a kick out of Terry and Dimash's friendship but I really agree with you on your last part of comment. He is his own person. I adore him as a person and the best singer without any gimics just an amazing voice and presentation. I can listen to him everyday and I actually do. Terry combined 2 songs into one. Classic Chinese song and English. This is one of my favorites from Singer 2017. He don’t need to compete in this program but as a favour to fill the void. Terry’s songs are evergreen though I love to hear Dimash sing very much.

Check the original "Scarborough Fair", but it is possible that translation means something different. It is traditional English /Celtic/ song, you can find many versions on the youtube - very gentle and melodic song. Even Simon and Garfunkel made their version, but mostly I have heard women singing this song: Vijay Rohilla.
But I liked the Terry Lin's voice it is softer than Dimash's, but Dimash can sing softer too.

Dimash took second place Singer 2017. Now I feel bad that I didn't check out Terry Lin back when I was being a Dimash groopie! It makes even more sense why they were calling Terry Dimash's "Baba!" The song Dimash sang that episode was "Daybreak" (the song about the boy saved by his parents' life sacrifices). The woman who wrote the song and adopted the boy was there and she teasingly wanted to adopt Dimash! The other contestants told her Terry was Dimash's "Baba" and she could be "Mama". Quite the joking about it.

It's sang by 谭维维 Tan Wei Wei. It's originally sang in Mongolian language, but in her version, only parts of it are sang in Mongolian. I personally think that particular performance was phenomenal. Wish you like it.
To add on the video's context, it's the same show that Dimash, Terry and Hua Chen Yu attended. It's just different season. Tan Wei Wei went to season 3, whereas Hua Chen Yu was on season 7.
