Hello! I'm Andy - a semi-professional singer-songwriter from the UK, based in Germany. I'm a solo artist as well as vocalist of a rock band. I also teach English Language at university level, and this semester, due to covid-19 restrictions forcing an online semester on us, I did a special online version of my course "The Language of Songwriting."
Alongside a bunch of songwriting challenges, part of the final project included the option of making a reaction/review video to a song that my students particularly enjoy, discussing what elements of the song(writing) are special to them. I never give out tasks I'm not willing to do myself, so I recorded one of my own (Ghost Love Score by Nightwish, also on my channel). I put it on RUclips for fun to see whether there was interest in this kind of video, and I was really pleasantly surprised at the positive responses! So I've gone ahead and made some more!
In contrast to the many wonderful reactors out there, I'm reviewing a song I already know. My reactions, therefore, are not as spontaneous or sensational as those of professional reactors ;-) Would you like more? I recognize the young pony-tailed girl as Terry Lin's partner/ presenter from I Am Singer. I hope that you will watch Terry Lin sing one song in particular from The Singer 2017. He combines a Chinese song and transitions to Scarborough Fair, flawlessly, and then back again. I loved all of his performances on that show. Also, he sings Feeling Good....just WOW!!! Left me breathless.
I fell in love with, " I am a singer. " The musicianship, the staging, lighting, and production are all top-notch. The competitors are all established Asian stars and invitees ( the best of the best. ) Try that in the States or Europe. No. All spoiled brats who have a hard time sitting through awards shows, especially if they are snubbed. This is of course where Dimash got his start and became a megastar. Terry Lin became a big supporter of Dimash and a true Asian friend. The classic Jim Steinman/ Russell Hitchcock vocal of, Making Love, is one of the most difficult songs to sing not only for the highs but its word complexity. Terry did an exceptional rendition.

Great song, great performance, and a great review by you, Andy; thank you! I think my favorite song of Terry’s from the Singer is “Writing’s On The Wall.” There is a clip somewhere of him meeting Dimash backstage for the first time and embarrassing the hell out of him by talking about his “beautiful voice, beautiful face.” Poor Dimash is covering his face with his arms and cringing; it’s adorable. ...love Terry Lin :) He has such a unique voice that is both strong and fragile, and he sings from the heart!!! I like his humble person...well just the whole Terry Lin package! Try some of is other performances please :) He is doing such a fantastic job!
Awesome analysis!! And here is an amusing moment - right after Terry sang “Do you really want to see me crawl?” You immediately nodded with a facial expression like that, as if you were saying “Yes, yes! I really really want to see you crawl…” 😅😅😅 Watch here at 15:17 .

Terry Lin is a really good singer. Love him and also happen to love this song. Despite the age difference, he and Dimash became good friends during and after I Am Singer.2017. They've spent several Christmas Eve's together so I guess Terry is a Christian? In any case, Asia has some excellent musicians and singers and I'm so glad I've been introduced to some of them.. It fascinates me that they seem to know all the American singers and their songs and sing them in English.

The syllables Steinman puts in each line are just nuts. They must be a nightmare to sing.
Another amazing reaction, my friend! Having just found you yesterday while watching all of your Dimash reviews, I immediately subscribed and then now have started looking for ones with Terry as well as Jam Hsiao and LION band. Can't wait to see ALL that you have to share with us!
I, also, adore Terry's tone...so smooth, clear, and almost bell-like to me. And that's not even counting HOW much I'm in love with his vibrato--it's just so, so, "somehow "laid back" which makes for VERY enjoyable listening to anything he may choose to sing.
Something that amazes me with his performance of this particular song is that while his Englsih is much better than many of the other contestants, it is still obvious that it is not his first language if you listen to him speaking. I've got to give him HUGE KUDOS for what he accomplished with this song!!
And finally, for some reason I loved his choice of not taking a breath inbetween the last 2 notes...although for the life of me I can't tell you why! LOL

He has won several Best Male singer in Taiwan where he is from.
During "the singer 2017", Terry Lin sang (among others) beautifully three songs:
"Writing's on the wall", "Feeling good", "Scarborough Fair".
For me the best versions I've ever heard. Please listen to them ! or react.......
I've seen "Writing's on the Wall" a few times - really like that one! Might be my next Terry review! And will happily look at the others!
Terry is for me the best discovery due to Dimash of another singer - still can't believe the man is a superstar for over 3 decades in Asia and I never heard of him before. From on and off stage he seems to be a gentle and calm man, not very expressive physically on stage but he makes it up double with the strength of emotion of his voice. He has many beautiful songs in chinese (some are maybe in taiwanese - hard to distinguish) but I could highly recommend his songs in English - Writing on the Wall - on of his The Singer too performances (all stunning), and the duet he sang with Dimash who he invited to his concert in China ruclips.net/video/AAUVtubpwOk/видео.html (they sang this song - Dimash's composition by the way so maybe you want so wait to see Dimash perform Unforgettable Day first before the duet - together later again and even thou the second is a professional recording at an official TV event instead of this fancam, here at Terry's concert they both are relaxed like two friend just enjoying the opportunity to sing together, happy to see each other again). Later Dimash invited Terry to perform at his Bastau concert in Kazakhstan.
I love Writing's on the Wall! Heard that a few times already - might be a future review ;-)

Oh, I think, those other people standing in front of the audience, they're the song arrangers, each contestant has one assigned to them. I assume they're known music producers, also competing alongside the singers.
yes. this clip is from the Singer 2013. the lady is the the song arranger (as the manager for singer during the show) and the gentleman with bow tie is a singer from one of the contestant group, Yu-Quan. He also the host for the show in addition to contesting at the same time.
