- Joker: Folie à Deux is an upcoming American musical psychological thriller film and the direct sequel to the 2019 film Joker. Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the DC Comics character, the Joker, and Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn. Zazie Beetz also reprises her role from the first film, while Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener join the cast in undisclosed roles. The film is directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. It is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in association with Joint Effort.
Joker was initially conceived as a standalone film, although Warner Bros. intended for it to launch a DC Black film series. By August 2019, Phillips had expressed interest in making a sequel, although he reiterated that Joker was not set up to have one. Phoenix hinted about reprising his role in October 2019. A sequel officially entered development in June 2022, with Gaga and Beetz joining later that year. Principal photography took place in Los Angeles, New York City, and Belleville, New Jersey, from December 2022 to April 2023.
Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 4, 2024, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The buzz for the trailer for "Joker - Folie a Deux" is truly rousing! Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix certainly make a dynamic duo, and their performances in this trailer are simply mesmerising. It wouldn't be surprising if they were both rewarded with an Oscar for their outstanding performances. Joaquin Phoenix's interpretation of the Joker is so convincing that it could well be that he makes history and wins another Oscar for the same iconic character. The anticipation is high and the accolades would be more than deserved for this talented duo.

First time i sow your reaction to a movie was exacly the joker and now i expect a great reacction as you've did in the first one....
Hope we didn’t disappoint …
So my theory is.. done a bit of digging into this fine trailer … if you notice GAGA is never locked up or in prison , she is either a music therapist or a volunteer at Arkham. I think in this film we are going to see Harley manipulate Joker , everything seems to be through Jokers lens , she knows he’s alone and has nobody that can relate she will be the aggressor in this film and everything joker thought was true love will be undone but some crazy twist in the 3rd act … or it could be none of that 😂 anyway we will know come October
I had a very similar theory... but instead of it coming undone, I think maybe she starts off as a therapist trying to reform him through "love" or something, and ends up kinda falling for him

Forgive a colonist for saying you seem good people with likewise reactions. I like the simple things as with Joker's/Joaquin's hand position during the waltz. In the "imagined" scene, his and Gaga's hands are "open", courteous and appropriate. In the apparent "real world" scene of the connected waltz, they are embracing each other which seems a beautiful transition. There's so much more. All the best to you and yours.
Ur not alone i was doubting it too but that was great..i dont think Harley is a doctor as its called a shared madness so im sure they are breaking out and doing crazy shit but they see what they are doing as a Fantasy..which is cool...i hope they dont do the abusive relationship thing but im sure it wont b a happy ending...im sure there are twists...

I have a theory. Maybe they've flipped the dynamic and have Harley as the abusive one/villain in this film. Either the film ends with them both dying ala Bonnie and Clyde. Her killing him, or him killing her and renouncing the world and leaning into the fact that the world is just one big joke. There not both coming out of this alive.

It looks like the musical part of the movie takes place in their mind as part of their shared delusion. Hence, the name "Folie a Deux". I was initially concerned about this being a musical, but I feel like it works really well like this. I'm definitely intrigued.

Folie a Deux means shared madness or two minds. They say it’s what twins have.
So I personally think that the musical scenes are in their minds as a “shared madness”. Cool to see that Harley is a patient rather than a psychiatrist.
Her sleeve in the lipstick scene at the end is the same as when she is going up the staircase so maybe she visits him at Arkham and then she gets admitted!
It’s not a psychological condition.
It means “Madness of two”.
Like jokers madness infects harley.
But it’s not like a diagnosable condition.
“Folie à deux” refers to a psychiatric disorder involving shared psychosis between two closely connected people👍🏼
