I know this is old but it really helped me. I am only a yellow belt and have sparred only once. My dojang offers sparring classes and practice every other Friday and my job is such that I have only been able to attend once. I am still overweight and slow and I need to develop more speed and balance. I did manage to score 2 points on two different black belts (they likely let me!) but then I sparred a high red belt. We went back and forth for quite a few minutes but then she kicked my ass!🤣🤣👍🏻. It’s fine, she is very good and tough and it taught me that even though I am much stronger than her it made no difference!
Good job Ethereal. Just keep at it. Martial arts usually are not great for weight loss but you will become a better fighter. Sparring twice a month you can really improve. For most people if they've been training for 6-12 months their fighting will begin to be better than what they had before starting martial arts. Two key principles to being a better fighter are: 1) Try to always be unpredictable; not always easy but try not to get into patterns 2) Combinations; start off so that you always throw at least 2 techniques at a time, then increase to 3, then 4 if possible. It's said that a blackbelt is a white belt that never quit. Good luck.
@@shevetlevi2821 Because of Covid I have been away from training. Yes you are correct. I did not lose weight from the training but it did make me watch my food intake a little more because I hated feeling like a “fat guy in a little coat” - Tommy Boy. What is great is I just received my 2nd covid vaccine (essential worker) and my 15 year old daughter who I had been doing taekwondo with is bothering me to get back! This made me so happy. We were about to test for high green when the pandemic started. Sparring is great. It trains to keep you calm, slow your brain down so you can anticipate and react. There is no substitute for sparring.
@@mattie2373 before Covid my dojang had said it was now going to be a requirement that some sparring will happen almost ever class with the class time extended about 15 or 30 min. I don’t know if that was a directive from Korea but I think most of the rules for class content were determined by Korea.
This video couldn't have come out at a better time, because I am just now starting sparring training. Thank you for making these videos to help us beginners.
I think the Roundhouse Kick is very popular in WTF Sparing as I have noticed in allot of video's this kick favors over the Front Kick - Back Kick & Side Piercing and Thrusting Kicks.
Samuel Mahmud I am in the same boat! Just started sparring and it’s hard not to stand there in front of my opponent with all this ufc stuff going through my mind🤣.
Ethereal I am feeling you on that thank you for making me feel good I've been working on the drills moving forward and backwards side to side and stepping forward and stepping backwards and throwing kicks along with them but it feels a little awkward but it's something that we are just going to have to work on
for first time people sparring remember -always hit as hard as possible and try to go for headshots, it shows your partner that u take them seriously -when in clinch, push them away forcefully or take them down, this is because they use this time to rest -when possible try to light kick their shins and inner thigh...it trains the partner to expect the unexpected these tips helped me so much in sparring! good luck to the beginners!!
I just purchased my Sparring Gear. I've joined my kids in taekwondo. I have no experience and am not athletic. I am really finding confidence and joy in your videos. I have a concern about getting kicked in the chest though.
I just realized my sparring gear for class (vovinam) looks like a SAYIAN armour and I am really into dragon ball series so I think I just found a way to help me be comfortable xd
The photography couldn't have been much better, maybe a little closer up shots of the impact of those kicks. And if it's allowed, more of an explanation of what those kicks strike and in real life how to know if you've been successful with your kick. Stay safe Alex!
It was my first time sparring, and I accidentally kept on kicking my partner's elbows. ( I kicked it twice) I'm white belt he's black belt. I didn't realize it till he told he while sparring ,and he started getting a bit pissed at me. He began saying weird things. Is it my fault that I kicked him where I shouldn't have?
Gabsters z No it is not your fault, you are a white belt you are still learning how to do basic kicks. The black belt you were sparring should have been more patient with you and helping you instead of getting annoyed.
For me belt doesnt mean anything because four years ago when i was white belt i beat red belt in sparring. all we need to do is hard work and never give up
Excellent Video. Knowledgeable. Keep It Up. I wish to see your Videos on Poomse. Because I have a problem that I forget the Chronological Order of Movements in Poomse. Please guide what should I do in Belt Gradation Examination? Please share your E - Mail Address. Regards
Ah I remember being a 4 or 5 year old white belt that beat an orange belt in my first sparring match. Honestly miss those days(lol heh im 13 it hasnt even been that long)
My coach always says wr must guard the head especially. At all times because the opponent may kick from any side. U cant just kick all over without staying protected
Where should I be looking? Hips? Eyes? Feet? I see that you are not looking up during these drills so you shouldn't be looking at his eyes or head or something because he is taller than you. It seems you are really focused in on his hips
I'm 6 months late but I guess I'll throw my opinion in as well. I look straight into their eyes and glance at their feet, I usually trick them so they won't be able to hit me.
Look at their chest protector, if you look into the eyes you won’t be able to react fast enough to their kicks. Also by looking at theis chest you can figure out where they protect themselves and where they don’t.
I’m going to Milan for my first competition and I’m nervous but excited 😊
How was it?
how did it went?

Recently got back into TKD after a long hiatus. I'm hoping to compete in sparring this April. Gonna see if I can practice these drills before then.

I’m only a green belt in taekwondo, I was fighting a black stripe and I got an insane head kick and she got stunned for a few seconds.
When you become a black belt, know it can happen to you as well.
A white belt could knock you out
My son does taekwondo and he’s one belt away from black very proud! 👍🏼

Would love to see Alex Wong vs Samery Moras in a UFC match. Make it happen, Dana!
YESSSSSS
Those tkd combos kicks will be useless in the UFC.
My names Dana...

I just began Taekeondo. Can’t wait for sparring
How it's going?
These are excellent introductory taekwondo sparring drills! Get those points!
Great drills for practice! I will test for purple belt soon.. it will be scary, going to competitions, as advanced.
There is no such thing as purple belt

I got third place in sparring thanks!
Remember to keep your arms up. I got tornado kicked in the elbow a couple days ago, and it’s not fun having a sprained elbow.
I am watching your video Alex Wong because I have Sparring Class on Saturday at the Lakeshore taekwondo academy🇰🇷☯️🥋

Best of all luck, and yes I liked this lessson/video!

Can you make a tutorial on shin conditioning
Matthew Ghirardi taekwondoins dont really use their shin for kicking. You’re better off asking a muay thai practioner since they use their shins a lot
My 5 year old son is learning sparring thank you for this video! I will show it to him 😊

I have just noticed - what's with the lack of pivoting on the roundhouse kick.

What do you do if your opponent comes close to you? as in right up to your face what does tkd teach you about that how do you counter that?
I like this video😍😍😘😘
I have a question.
Do TKD fighter condition their shin?
pls more of this kind of videos
Very nice tacnic for begging stage
When you dodge a kick throw a round kick as you jump back they won’t expect it :) what I always do and get a point or two
Neo Gray so you throw a kick when you jump to the back or what
King Jihoon ya if you can’t throw a round kick fast enough then throw a round kick as your jumping backwards
Neo Gray ok thx bc tomorrow I’m maybe sparring with someone :)
King Jihoon nice good luck
Neo Gray thx
He isn’t piviting his foot if he is a black belt he should do that or it’s not a round house kick
0:29 muscles anybody?

Im a green belt but really dont know how to sparring. Always do the same paltun kick.... And definitely i have noooo stamina 😂
