The lawsuit about the T97 was because F. Porsche did a direct rip of a great design so he could meet the goals of The Dark Clown. The Nazi also ripped off tanks, the Pkw-38t
Even the Tatra Museum in Koprivnice doesn't have it on their exhibition. They do, however, have the Ecorra Sport T800 Coupe, which is even more exciting.
Daimler and Panhard were the first car makers, with Panhard the first to sell complete cars on a commercial basis (initially with Daimler Phoenix engines).
What a humiliation to have your brand new car towed back home by a horse! I can see why the earliest cars had to be lightweight "horseless carriages." I wonder if they originally had fittings for a harness, rather than a towing hook?
Jourwalis - Weight distribution = how the weight of the car is distributed between front and rear wheels. Moving engine (the heaviest part) more to the middle of the car takes some weight off of the rear wheels. That should improve handling.
th eTatra 700 use a bigger V8 (3.5 and 4.2L) who was heawyer as the old 2.5L, so was better to move the engine forward: Porsche did the same with the 911...
Such a shame that Czechoslovakia collapsed, and down with it came Tatra. When they privatised Tatra it all got fucking ruined, everything. It was better when it was state owned enterprise albeit it was best left run on its own unlike Lada which just made peoples cars and had to be cheap to the point of insanity, but Tatra was so well run and when left to its own accord they made cars that would put western Capitalist cars to shame.

A totally disasterous construction! A heavy V8 (!) in the rear of the car, and swinging axels! It couldn´t be worse. The weight distribution is catastrofically wrong. Zero roadholding and zero active safety! Worst car ever built!
The Porsche 911 is made same..., and the V8 Tatra was pretty light: it's not a US big block in cast steel but a light (the 613 use a 2.5L) aluminium engine
This engine is extremely light. Carter casts from magnesium alloy and weight only about 20 pounds, and have a separated steel cylinders like aircraft piston engines.
I just started the restoration on a 603. What a car!
Wow, what an interview!
I´m from Czech republic and I love Tatra car´s. I´m proud, sorry.
Tatra is also very special to me, since I a Czech too:-).
Wow, amazing Tatra collection!
How nice of the museum to let them Czech the cars!
It's unforgivable that Tatra never sold here in the USA.
Yeah it’s too eastern, but Tatra just Create a T613 that has a “westernized” version the westernized model can be seen on Top gear Tatra

Great. Thanks, i am from Czech republic, and i wish you one, i wish you an exemplar of Tatra MTX to your museum.
Ferdinand Porsche knew a good thing when he saw it
what a great report!!!
What car is shown at the left at 3:58 minutes at the left? The silver one with the huge chrome grill at the back???
It's a Stout Scarab
Behind the Tatraplan there stands also Velorex, another legendary "car" from Czechoslovakia.
And similar design.. :-D That´s why everyone in Czech used to call Velorex Hadraplan ( Ragplan, Clothplan) :-D :-D
How about the Tatra truck engines? Were they air-cooled or water-cooled?
Air cooled
The lawsuit about the T97 was because F. Porsche did a direct rip of a great design so he could meet the goals of The Dark Clown. The Nazi also ripped off tanks, the Pkw-38t
The very last Tatra was the t700 and you were standing right next to it, the red car.
Also the last version of Tatra MTX V8 is missing in their collection ;)
They made just 3 cars and one kit car without engine and gearbox....maybe that's the reason ;-)
Even the Tatra Museum in Koprivnice doesn't have it on their exhibition. They do, however, have the Ecorra Sport T800 Coupe, which is even more exciting.

Money can't buy happiness.....I'd say happiness is over rated since money can buy Tatra automobiles.
So, why stop at the 613 when there's a 700 right next to it.
Well..Hans Ledwinka wasnt pure Austrian..His father was Czech..

What about T700 in museum? You forget to talk about it :)
I wonder if Jeff Lane or other US Tatra enthusiasts have knowledge of V12 watercooled Tatra T80 and what they think of it.
Some major manufacturer should bring back the 2 cycle engine.

VW still owes 18mil.marek Tatra
Those other visitors - too stupid not to bugger off to another part of the museum whilst he filmed for ten minutes 🙄

Gastank in the front......! How´s that for a head-on crash?
Much like an old VW
