I never realized how simple this process was for the bolt itself

We have big versions of these at work made out of solid steel bar stock. Maybe 3" diameter and 5' long or so. Intsead of a nut on it, a pulley is on it that runs back and forth. It winds rope up evenly on drums as it goes back and forth. Also, the grooves are about 1/2" deep and the edge of the grooves are razor sharp.

Great work! I guess the secret for it to work is a dual start thread on the bolt and nuts.

Un trabajo extraordinario, nunca me imaginé que esas roscas superpuestas y contrarias fuera posible, increíble. FELICITACIONES. Un artista de la Ingeniería Mecánica.

    there is so many
    applications for
    threads like that,
you see it in a garden
    hose crank real.
    you are able to see
    the guide go back
    and forth guiding
    the hose.

Now you just have to perfect a nut that tightens AND loosens in both directions and you'll be set for ultimate ambiguity.

The bolt isnt a tight fit, its only hitting half of the threads.if it was the true bolt size it wouldn't work.

That’s what I thought too partial thread engagement but I am NOT a machinist. The threads on the stud will definitely mess with your eyes and your head. I wonder if it could be done on harder carbon steel or if it needs to be a softer material like brass or aluminum for the second cut of the opposing thread pitch to cut cleanly instead of trying to follow the initially cut threads and messing those threads up.

Q1 Did you use brass? Q2 And cutting fluid? Q3 What size & Q4 please How long to make ?

    • @johnjohnson6094
      @johnjohnson6094 Год назад

@@davidbroadbent2529 I used 1 1/4 brass, yes I used a little cutting oil, it took about 2 hrs. I set the lathe on 3 1/2 tpi, that way when you are done with the double start threads you end up with 7tpi. I indexed between 1 and 3 on the double start procedure. Maybe next week when I’m done making the nuts for this one I’m going to make another one with 12tpi to see how it turns out.

Chỉ áp dụng cho các độ tăng giảm khoảng cách lực nhỏ thôi. Chứ không chịu được lực cao như bulong thường được. Nhưng ý tưởng hay lắm!
