I've got a WINDSOR DOOR model 535 on my home, built in 1995 by Beazer Homes. And it's the screwless type. So far I've gotten one side of one window off, but, like you, I damaged it a bit - and deformed it a bit when I tried a heat gun (because 33-year-old plastic seems so brittle). There are quite a few DIY garage door window repair videos out there, but this one is the best because it answers the problem of screw-free doors. I wish I had seen it sooner. The best part is where you show the two rows of "teeth" that hold it in. Before seeing that, you have no idea what's behind it. Thanks!

    👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
My house was built with these in '88. My kids busted 2 of them a couple of YEARS ago.
I first tried to pry with a screw driver but I the plastic seemed so brittle I was worried
I would break it and be screwed.
Called the door company they said "What kind of door is it?"
"It's the kind of door with YOUR sticker on it!"
No help from them or glass companies so it's been sitting there covered with plastic & tape.
Then I saw your video that gave me the stones to finish the job, come hell or high water.
I did have a tool similar to the one you used.
    Two tips.
Taking the trim off, I found it was easy once I got an end started, slide my hand between the end & the door
add some pressure as I used the tool to loose the grip.
Then I just took the frame pieces out & took them to Lowes ( I'm not sure HD does it).
Handed the frames to guy and let HIM cut the panes to fit.
I'm selling the house so glass was cheaper than the Lexan. Two panes EXACT fit - $15.00.
When I put them in, I had a 2x4 that my neighbor on the outside held TIGHT against the edge of the frame
as I tapped each piece in with a rubber mallet.
Some places I still had to push in by hand but I think the 2x4 helps spread the pressure to keep
from breaking the glass. Thanks again!!!!!!!

Yeah, after I was done (and video was published), I realized using a mallet might have been better to use with a second mallet or something solid on the other side of that window frame instead me and my helper just pushing against each other to reinstall the frame.
That pry-bar tool really is key to getting these frames off, isn't it?
Thanks for sharing the Lowes info... others will definitely find it helpful!

New improved shortcut method -- 1. prepare the areas where you're going to unhook those teeth with a little WD-40. I think this helps. 2. Warmth is good when you're dealing with old plastic - just not too much. 3. Today I replaced two windows. For the 2nd one, I removed the old glass, then removed ONE SIDE only, then 3 or 4 inches of the top and bottom next to that removed side. Then I bent my Lexan slightly and slid it in from the side. It worked great! 4. If your new window is at least partially held in place, you can open your garage door and get on a ladder and maybe reach the top and bottom to put it all back together. 5. I wish I had a deep throat clamp - that would be a great way to get those teeth back together. I can't imagine trying this with glass!

@@JohnFixes Thanks john will do. Same here...I might just put my personal artistic elementary school skills to work and find a way to 'make it work' for now. I don't want to buy a whole new garage door for a $30 broken piece of glass.

Hi John, thanks for your video, any chance you have found somewhere that carries that screw-free trim??? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it. I accidentally threw out the trim pieces my husband had removed due to a broken piece of glass. Any ideas would be welcomed! Thanks! Casey

Gosh I wish I knew... I also looked before I started but never found anything. Please let me know if you're successful so I can share in the description.
Just an idea that I don't know if it would work, but could the newer trims with screws work? You might need to replace all windows if you did that... But if you can't find replacements it might be your only option.
