The day Ed dropped his body. My daughter called me to let me know. I had VH 3 and only listened to it a few times. I put it on, played it non stop for a week. I think they should have kept going with Gary. He wrote great lyrics, Ed plays fantastic guitar on it. The songs are mature and great mix of piano & acoustic Now it’s my favorite Van Halen Lp. Garey said there’s another collection of songs in the can. I hope they release a cd of VH 3 and the rest of what they recorded
Apparently there's lots more that Ed had squirreled away in 5150. But it is or was all mixed up with all kinds of stuff but that there are hundreds of 2 inch tape up there all in rows upon rows. I'm sure a lot of is just Ed messing around trying to write a lot of the music eventually released but I hope we all find out.
For me van Halen is my only band, some albums I know word for word, but you know I've never ever have listened to VH 3... never cared to give Gary a chance... I'll have to check it out I guess
12:00- The VH split was t becasue Eddie wanted to be a guitar virtuoso and David Lee Roth wanted to be a pop star. It was quite the opposite. Eddie VanHalen wanted to start using more keyboards, and David Lee Roth wanted to make rock music.
5:20….”By 1964 the brothers started playing together as a band with their friend Mark Stone calling themselves Mammoth”. Oh really? That’s pretty impressive for a 9-year old lead guitarist. And here I always thought it was 1972.😮
Real History Will Tell Ya, Roth After The New York Trip, Back In Cali On The Raidio Got Them In The Door & As Time Went On, You Can"t Have Van Halen Without Eddie !!!!
Gary was a mistake, I can see why they didn't continue after Van Halen III, but man, the Sammy and Dave years were incredible. Their first live album was Live: Right Here, Right Now after the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour, not the one you mention. I mean... basic discography stuff, man, Live is in the title
Man I can’t stand filler clips that don’t fit the narration. It’s getting even worse with people making lazy AI videos. Talking about the fans in the 80s and showing people standing there videoing with a fucking cell phone. Irritating
Van Halen was a murderer's row of talent. What caused them so much turmoil was that each one was a larger-than-life personality and had trouble sharing the spotlight.
I think Dave and the rest of the band finally saw how much they were really worth . They got a new better contract where Warner Brothers couldn't screw them anymore . And he didn't like being called weird and shit . And it was no more fun at the Sunset Studios when it was more fun .
This won't be up here in this form for long seeing as they have used actual VH music and the Live Eruption solo. But even though it has that it's VERY Parochial. If you've been a long time fan or even watched any other VH docs this one will let you down. But there's a few nice shots and pictures. They go straight from The first album to "and then came Jump their biggest hit yet" so it's kind of lame really. Both the strength and the weakness of this one is that they have an excellent eye witness. But that's one of the problem. Only ONE and so all you get is the opinion of that one witness and not the multiple views of many. Plus they really don't look into a lot of what the guys said themselves in some cases.

I felt the same as you but I admit some but not all of the Sammy era grew on me. Never heard 1 song with Cherone. Van Halen was the outdoor summer party band of all time
I never liked the addition of keyboard. That is why 1984 is love and hate with me. You got amazing tracks like Panama and Hot for Teacher which just crushes...but then Jump was just annoying to me.

Then, they make their first live appearance with the new look, probably saving it for a really Hot bill at the Whiskey A Go Go some Friday night, when EVERYONE who was Anyone would be there and depending on how the females in the audience acted.... and what the scenester journalists wrote in their weekly nightlife articles, would decide how many other of the big and growing big acts would fall in line behind them and also adopt the new look. So if that story is true about the moment eddie and alex decided to switch instruments alex saying he came home to see eddie still sitting on his bed and having learned all of claptons crossroads in order lick for lick . If that's true then at that moment when it became obvious to alex that means up till that moment alex was playing guitar and as this story suggests alex must have been pretty damn good on it or the decision to switch would have happened the moment eddie was better than alex on guitar . so lets see alex play something that would be good enough for this story to be true. Awe, did someone get their wittle feewings hurt? You DONT make mistakes??
Awesome story 👏😎
The critics actually turned their noses up at Van Halen when they released their debut album
And just about every album afterwards .
This would be a good video for anybody who just crawled out from underneath the rock
BTW: It was Michael Anthony who used to Chug the (Ice Tea) in a Jack Daniels bottle On Stage!!
結成当初はヴァン・ヘイレンのレコーディングにKiss

Kiss

The solo is called Eruption, not Interruption.
If Eddie stayed with drums, I'm sure he would have squeezed a unique sound out of them. Franken drums-
He stayed with drums enough for demos and the adult movie he did the soundtrack for .
