To get an idea as to what is required to fix the rusted areas you might consider having a read of this book : Donald Waits Panel Beating and Car Restoration. Evidently it is/was the text book apprentice panel beaters etc. use in their course. It may give you the confidence to take more of the work and decide what is best left to the pros.
Nothing is best to leave to the "pros" That's like turning over your life savings. A cheap flux core pocket mig welder, sheet metal. A 4.5 cut off/ grinder, a hammer and imagination, some thin card for patterns, some self taping screws as a second hand. You got this......!!!
yeh man like i said a while back, get the whole thing sandblasted. Trying to patch up little bits here and there won't leave you with any peace of mind. You'll always worry about all the stuff you didn't uncover.. .. and like Andrew says, it'll give you a good and clear view of what you may want to then tackle or leave to a shop. That fella on the Homebuilt chan does all his own rust repair.
Herbert Moorhouse yeah all good mate that is the plan. Can’t sand blast it till it’s actually stripped! Hey turns out your perth car came from the house next door to my dads where my 240z is, small world. Man I would have loved to have that clean body! My footage is usually about a month or two old when I post it, currently building the chassis jig and rotisserie for it. Once that’s done it’s of to the body shop for stripping
@@240zbuiltbyme5 wow man that's crazy! Do you know anymore about the story of my Z ? I only know what the panelbeaters i bought it off told me. Some kid had bought it with their parents money unbeknown to the parents. Mum found out, came down the workshop and said "Sell it".. .. that's what I was told. Also didn't know your footage is a month old by the time it hits youtube haha pretty cool man :) ... I've been watching bulk YBS Youngbloods youtubes.. Brodie Moss in W.A. who left his sparky job to just do fulltime youtubes of him and the boys on the reef. He uploads almost daily.. pretty insane editing times. Yes, rust does feel very dis-heartening man. I know the exact feeling.. When you see it, it feels overwhelming..
Yeah that story checks out with what my z specialist here said. Nothing further that. Yeah I had a heap of footage before I decided to commit to making the channel. So I decided I’d make a video a week until I ran out of footage, so I’m probably a week or two from being current footage
Cant recommend eastwood frame rail rust encaptulator - give a bit of additional piece of mind knowing that the rust inside is treated and has some protection for the future.
Sorry Jason are you saying you do or don’t recommend Eastwood’s rust encapsulator? I was definitely looking at using it for all the spots I can’t get to
Haha I thought that’s what you meant! I will for sure, thanks heaps for the recommendation, I’ve seen a few videos testing it’s longevity and durability and it holds up really well.
What is the song at the 5 minute mark it sound like a zelda song. Found it, the song is when I was a boy, but it has a very similar run to song of storms from Ocarina of Time
Fix fix fix cut weld, cut and weld. It will become whole. I did 2...the same condition. Sheet metal is cheap. You will be a true Samurai ! Of the ownership of a Japanese Ferrari.
Don't be demoralised. Disappointed perhaps. Remember, it is a 50 year old car. I've seen people fix worse. It is not a write off and it is all fixable.
scotta1725 cheers Scotty, thanks for your support. At the time I had found a bunch of new rust so was a bit down. After a bit of research and some thinking time I’ve realized it’s not that bad. Yeah I’ve seen much worse as well. I’m committed to the project so it will all get fixed eventually!

haha now thats some pop culture trivia! unfortunately we only had a PS1 when I was a kid so I never played zelda.... :(
@@240zbuiltbyme5 it took me the better part of 30 minutes to track it all down
Everything can be fixed with enough money.
