Hey guys just FYI apparently the artist loft markers fall apart after any significant use so stick with the Copic ciaos after all! I knew it was too good to be true arghhh 😵
LavenderTowne dang it..How long did yours last till they fell apart?
Thank goodness I read this, I'm about to go art supply shopping, and looked back on this video.
I have had mine for almost a year and use them almost everyday and all of mine haven’t fallen apart....so weird
Yeah my friend got me some and I was so hyped but after just about 3 uses it starting falling apart, it’s a shame :(
Me too! For the price, I think they’re amazing and they’re completely together!
Me over here with my sharpies and pen to line my art: lmao what
Sir Anonymous dont have shame, sane here.
Same, I am really annoyed 😒.
To be honest Shapies are pretty good and I usually use them to line my art outside my laptop.
Me too
WEHJFEWHR SAME BUT WITH OHUHU
Her: yeah definitely use micron technical pens
Me: looks at my 25 cent black ball point pen from staples....
ouch-- dude, no. ballpoints are fine for like, sketching and writing and stuff but they're AWFUL if you're trying to color something in or actually do something. at the very least get some cheap fine liners from five below (found a pack that was like, 25 pens for 5 dollars).
Oh my god same XD
I used to use ballpoints a lot, but I prefer fineliners.
Ricey bruh, I got mines at Five Below too TvT
Eh, i do the same.
I'm w h e e z i n g at "withered t-pose", I've been trying to describe what pose those wooden creatures go to but that's more accurate than anything I've said.
I HATE those things I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE GOOD! I like the the version of it that is a hand though it helps with my hand poses
WARNING ABOUT ARTIST’S LOFT MARKERS!
I purchased the pack of Artist’s Loft markers displayed in this video. It was really good quality, and I used them a lot. Blue colors were a common appearance in my art, so the pack was useful. But soon enough, the brush nibs on each marker frayed completely, two markers somehow exploded in my bag of markers, and one was even thrown away. The only useful thing about them was the chisel nib, unless you need a frayed brush tip for something. And if you’re wondering about the marker explosion, Lagoon Blue and Sapphire Blue were the ones which exploded. I threw Lagoon Blue away because the nib was too feathered and frayed to use, and I had recently gotten a Copic in a similar color. I should probably clear up what I mean by ‘exploded’: The whole marker DID NOT explode, just the color somehow exploded. Sapphire Blue’s color is all over itself and many of my Copic Markers, and the same with Lagoon Blue. I tried to wipe the color off to make my markers look a little nicer, but there was barely an effect. If you buy Artist’s Loft™️ Dual Top Sketch Markers, be careful with them. If I had been more careful, maybe that would not have happened.
Also another thing I should clear up, I’m just trying to tell you guys about my experience with these markers. I’m not attempting to frame Haley for selling you something that isn’t good quality. I just want you all to know a possible outcome with the markers. Hopefully, I just had bad luck with them. If you have had a better Artist’s Loft experience, I would like to hear it. I would hate to miss out on another good Copic alternative.
Edit: Not trying to paint the markers to be completely useless either, I was a bit overdramatic in my review. You can still get good use out of the marker, just (sadly) not so much with the brush nib.
Yes, I agree with you but, I do use them but very carefully. I know most of the art community HATES Artist Loft, but i like it. But I do not like that they get all puffy and yucky when it's in over use. (Basically pushing hard or forcing ink)
I was going to say the same thing about the frayed tips, and they aren't the best for blending. But yeah, the brush tips kinda suck on those markers
tøp fan I agree, I bought one black one, used it three times, and it became so frayed that I couldn’t use it anymore. The chisel tip was useless to me because even when I wanted to fill in a black space in my inking, it was too thick.
XxYellowRoses xX I agree. I tried out their watercolors, and they are pretty good (it’s coming from a person with no experience in watercolors, but still). Artist’s Loft, from my experience, is not too bad.
Lmao with some of my artists loft markers the tips crystallized so I had to throw out 3 or 4 but the rest of them all work fine. Still very good markers imo because I expected issues for how cheap they were but on paper it looks perfectly fine.
Do you just have the magical ability to make any brush or tool look incredible?! Can’t wait to see what you come up with in 2019!!! Started following this year and very glad I did!!!
Yeah! Same
Oh
Same!
The spike on the prismacolor alcohol markers is to keep the marker from rolling off the table.
Why not have it as an actual clip, like how most pens have them.

how'd it go?
About a month left, if you did it. How did it go?
Ok look here buckaroo, tell us
That seems extremely stressful to do tbh
I’ve actually had the opposite experience with copics and prismacolor markers. Copics barely even last me a year, and spill out soooo badly. And after about a year, the color begins to fade on your picture which really sucks. Prismas have lasted me over 7 years, never fade, and never spill. However, the only bone I have to pick with prismacolor, is that they don’t blend as well as copics.
I agree so badly with this, like i just wish prismacolors blended evenly.
UGh I had the same problem!!
I *hate* copics, and their brush nib makes me wanna me wanna diE
It's so stiff, and it's so uncomfortable
I believe Copics come with a lifetime supply of refills but I could be wrong? Just saying, you should look into it if yours are running dry.
If you put down the colorless blender before you put down your colours it blends a bit better!
Am I the only one who has never seen any of these markers?
Where I’m from Prisma markers are cheaper than copics. They have the “spike” to stop them from rolling away.
actually don't get the artist loft markers they wither away and run out of pigment REALLY quickly. they seem great at first but they begin to show their true potential after more use, which is very little.
I agree.
How long was it until they wore out for you? I got the watercolour dual tips yesterday, and so far I used them about 4 or 5 times without much trouble.
@@Eloquence well I'm actually not sure but I used them a few times like maybe about the same amount you did and it was frayed and dead at that point. Maybe some batches are better than others.
@@morningstar.. The watercolor dual tips are actually decent. This person was talking about the alcohol markers.
@@EvilSnips Ah, okay. I was worried so thank you for letting me know!
My favorite art supply is either my hand, or my pencil -^-, I'm not that luxurious, I'm still a kid, lol

Lavendertowne: number 6 is the jellyroll pen.
Me, who also owns one and uses it regularly for my art: Ah, I see you are an artist of culture as well.
Am I the only one that doesn't like the Sakura gellyroll?
Once again I am so early that there isn't even a video to watch yet...
Alexia Pettes There is now. It’s happening man.
Same 😅 I really like Lavender, I cant help it
*on time
oh yes i love me some traditional lavender towne art :D
OMG I'm so with you on the wooden dolls being USELESS! Finally someone who agrees with me on this!
i have one of those wooden statues, and i don't even use him for drawing. I've literally just adorned him with a nice face and a wears a tiny wool hat. he's french, so I practice conversational skills with him
I would be careful if you’re looking to buy artist loft alcohol markers because they run out of ink really quickly.
prismacolors aren't nearly as expensive as copics here in California (and they dont give off any smells or fumes) and the Artist Loft Markers' brush tips are trash, maybe where you live its different
Never buy Copics in art stores, order them on Scrapbookpal, it's so much cheaper and the people in charge are so nice.
I Live in Michigan an prismamarkers just for one is 4$ at micheals and they are usually always on sale so maybe even less than that for a bulk. and at the dickblick store just buying singles are 3-2$. An i agree artist loft isnt the best an they are the same price as prismacolors for a set of six.
Nah Artists Loft markers are always trash I live on the east coast
Thanks so much for commenting that!!!!! Now I won’t go as broke after I buy copics.
@Oh No No problem!
Favorite art supply: A freaking pencil xD
I like 6B pencils, they're so soft!!
The Artist's Loft markers ARE NOT GOOD! They start out ok, *BUT* they start to frey so fast! An then you have this almost fuzzy tip, and it won't get into any lines, and it doesn't cover evenly. They seem good at first, but after about ten uses (not even that much!) They just start freying and getting damaged. I have Chartpak Spectra AD's and Copics too, and trust me, Artist's loft markers are NOT anywhere near comparable.
On top of this, when you put down a lot of colour to dry, it dried down sticky! I don't know why it does that, but it's the only one I've found that does!
Yeah, not worth the money, even if they're cheaper!
agreed
They are the absolute worst alcohol markers out there so I was shocked she defended them. She probably hasn't used them more than once or twice to get that full, atrocious effect ;~; and to all their own but putting them above Prismacolor?? Dude. There should be no contest lmao. Prismacolor's nibs don't fall apart and explode with white fluff popping out of it 😂
Well oof I use artist loft markers all the time and they work fine for me :l
@@so-calledartist5148 that's awesome! If the work well for you, I'm happy. I do still, however, feel the need to report my personal experience. I'm genuinely happy you have affordable markers that work well for you ♡.

I actually like Prismacolor markers, they work pretty well, especially with a Uniball Pen. And to blend them, I usually wait for it settle before adding another color on top. But overall after a while, I feel like they're pretty good when you get used to them.
i agree
I agree
Another great thing about them is when compared to copics the ink is solid and not spotted. I also have no idea what store she’s buying them from, but where I live prismacolor markers are WAY cheaper than copic markers
I got some for Christmas and they’re working really well and my dad had some from college and they still work.(23 years ago)
MysteryMoon Girl5390 maybe colic coals are cheaper but yea prismas are always cheaper in my experience
When you click so early the video is still private
That awkward moment when you’ve been doing digital for so long that you’re super amazed by a water brush
I LOVE my watercolor brush. I have an aqua brush (maybe a different company?) and i just fill it up and keep it in my bag. It has helped my watercolor skills, not only because its sleep, but the bristles don't fall out everywhere. I got a pack of like 5 i think for $25. each brush is a different size. It may not be cheap, but it is SUPER worth it!
I HAVE THE WHITE GELLY ROLL PEN!!!
Edit: I also have the Artist Loft set
Edit 2: And I have the water brush
We use a lot of the same art supplies! :D
Im confused where are you buying prismacolors? I live in the US and prismacolors are $6 compared to copics being $8.
I have a ton of prismacolors along with some copics and other brands of markers and prismacolors are honestly my favorite out of them lol
Also the tiny knives are to help prevent the marker from rolling away, they're honestly not very sharp but who knows, maybe its different where you live.
Yeah, I got my prismacolors on Amazon for $46, for a set of 24 plus carrying case. To be fair, they were on sale, but regular price on Amazon is roughly $77, which is still like, $3 per marker. Even at like, Hobby Lobby they're cheaper. Maybe it's different in Canada? Idk haha. I've also yet to have a problem with them drying out or anything, but that may be because I don't use them as much as I'd like.
Yeah..
She was using copic ciaos which are around 3$ each... they are the exact same as copic sketch markers (8$) except they have less ink
@@MelaniePickachu I have 4 Copic Ciaos and I got them for $5 each. They are some of my best markers so...
@@jubilbee4499 yea, I've had most of my markers for upwards of a year and they have yet to dry out or anything.

Thank you for doing this video I’ve been trying to expand the types of art I do and this helped so much! Love your channel!
My favourite art supply this year was Copic Markers. I just started getting into them this year, and so far have been quite successful.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Lavendertowne!

Lavendertowne: Yeah defenitly get these professional art supplies"
Me: Looks at my crayola and sharpies "pff yeah duh. These are my 21 yr old sister's that lives 13 hrs away..."
Thank you for making this video! I needed this for my Christmas list, and I just love watching your videos. Keep up the amazing work! :D
Hi Lavendertowne, I just wanted to say that you were my biggest inspiration! Every video gives me something new to help me with my art. You pushed me to keep drawing and continue improving. I love all of your videos and keep being your amazing self. Thank you!
Prismacolor markers may suck but they are the best things about my terrible anime art from elementary school
Hi! for if you somehow see this: i recommend (generally) the brand "Carand'ache" because it's generally really high quality. it's made in Switzerland, which is right in the middle of Europe (i live there actually haha) and their colored pencils can generally be found anywhere (i think). They're pretty expensive, but a good brand in the long run since they have high quality art supplies like Gouaches and aquarelle pencils that i personally find easy to use. its just a recommendation but i think they're really cool :D
Ive watched you for ages now, since the time you did the first left hand right hand challenge and oh my god I LOVE your drawings 💜 You've improved a ton and right now, I love your style, colouring- everything about your art.
OMG YES!! THE WATER COLOR BRUSH! Out of all of these, the water color brush is the only thing I have and honestly it’s like my most favorite thing in the world! I love it so much!! And it helps with blending water based markers!
Bro I've never been in a premiere _what do I do--_
Embrace the moment :0
????? Prismacolors cost more than copics?? Am I dumb or smth because I thought copics were significantly more than prisma (or at least a little more) I have a LOT of prismas and pretty much only use them (and artists loft) imo primacolors aren't bad but idk
I got a Pentel correction pen earlier in the year and it saved my life when I was making a 16-page comic for class earlier this year. I messed up a character's face after drawing a very, very detailed scene and I didn't want to redo the page, but using the pen I could undo the face and try again. Also, the uniball sigma broad white pen has been great for adding details against black, it adds so much to a drawing! Finally, my knead eraser, I love it.
I have a suggestion for a site thing for drawing. Photoshop seems very expensive. I use Krita. It’s free and it has great brushes, colours, tools, lighting and you can easily insert pictures without strugle. If you ever need a go to just try it out. I love your videos and I bought a tablet you recommend!
The Artist Loft markers are a cheap alternative to Copics and Prismacolors, but the nibs on them are felt and will fall apart.
I got an Artist Loft marker(I'll call 'em *AL's after this bc less typing) last month and the brush nib fell apart and dried out way too quickly. The inks in the markers are amazing though! I didn't expect it from *AL.
The Prismacolors have the spike on the caps to stop them from rolling away, as they are circle markers. (Just wanted to say that about the Prismacolors bc they were my first alcohol markers(they used to be cheap) and I wanted to defend my bbys)
(*Edits were for Artists Loft, I accidentally put and F instead of an L. Oops)
@@milktea543 I think Lavender's were good because she bought hers in a set, rather than one by one like I did (I probably should've mentioned that in my comment before, whoops).
Unless she had used them before this video, that is. Which, we can't say for sure unless she responds (which I kinda doubt, RUclipsr's are busy people after all).
But yeah, there are some quality control problems. The quality in some markers is better than the quality in the others.
Kattvalk did a review and she said that it seemed like the darker the ink, the more easily they fell apart.
(I couldn't find this Miss Katt person you were talking about, but I'll try to find them a bit harder to see their review.)
@@jun-kt7hd my bad, that's her. For some reason my brain said, MissKatt. 😂 But yeah, that's the thing though. She brought hers in a set too--or multiple of them, from eBay. So there's some strange things going on with quality control. I'm not saying AL markers are bad at all though!! I have a similar set and they performed wonderfully for me. I'm more or less arguing (?) that these markers are worth giving a try, though it's definitely better to get a smaller set first to test before taking a purge. Just know your risks.
Thanks for your reply❤️very insightful
gaycie I don’t think that it was because they were bought in a set. I left a comment about my experience with the same exact set, and mine was much worse that Haley’s seemed to be.
im sorry but

I love watching your traditional art so much!

I am pretty sure that is her
Yes
Idk where you've been buying prismacolor markers, but I found a set of 48 on Amazon for $80 (it's legit, it's sold by the Prismacolor account), which is less than $2 a marker...
I do agree with you on the AL markers though, I like them a lot. The brush nib can be a little squishy at times, but they're good for beginners or broke people like me.
The artists loft markers on the brush nib side tend to split after using them like once. I have a black and white set and they're absolutely awful. I don't recommend them even for beginners, Instead, try Ohuhu markers! They have great color variation and are great for making beginner art with them :)
Hey lavender town you should do "Country flags into cute girls"

There's such thing as an art mannequin now! You can order them online for about 7 dollars or at a craft store. The priciest one I've seen is 11 bucks.
Art mannequins are posable at the head, chest, waist, thighs, knees, ankles, arms, elbows, and wrists.

@LavenderTowne You inspired me to take art classes!
the "powder blue" copic is the most perfect representation of my favorite color. it just IS! It's so magical 😍
I got the aquash brush mini and you weren't kidding, this works really nicely and it's such a cool concept

Artists Loft Alcohol Markers
Premieré Dual Tip Design Markers
White Uni-Ball Signo Broad Pen

I just got some new Watercolor “pens” like the one Lavendertowne used in the video from my grandfather!
(Hope you find these helpful)
Lol yours is better than what I used
Promarkers
Derwent liners
Sakura geli roll

Still better than what I've used. I've honestly used and enjoyed literal crayola crayons to color inked drawings. It's unique and bright but not high quality. So I'd like to move on to watercolor painting and brush pen for professional work. Is the watercolor pen as awesome as it looked? Thinking of getting the poseable figures too, seem way better than traditional manequin for action pose
Meanwhile, i'm sitting around with my *Crayola* markers (not the nice ones), 3 or 4 drawing pencils (I have a 10B one that I found on the road XD) and a black(?) pen.
I have been waiting for this video all my life 😲
Happy Holidays! That was so cool
I’m on time
(NOT EARLY)
Have a nice day and Merry New Hanukkah
*when you’re early but don’t know what to comment*
I use watercolor brushes like that every day and honestly they’re really cool- you can get different size brushes as well for larger spaces or smaller details which is really convenient in my opinion,,
A great artist can make any tool look good and you definitely do that!
I absolutely love the prisma colour markers. In my opinion they are way better than copics. I mainly use prisma markers and spectrum noir. Spectrum noir markers are at the same level of prisma and copics. However, they ate much cheaper. They have their faults though. They are pretty bulky and they are a hexagonal shape. The hexagonal shape makes it hard to hold. But besides that they are alright.
Could you do maruchan instant ramen flavors as characters?
Instantly bought that water brush pen!!!! Thanks for all the recommendations!!
I absolutely love Strathmore mixed media sketchbooks! They’re pretty smooth so you can get nice fine detail in your library and hold up to markers really well.

Hi LavenderTowne, I just wanted to thank you for doing what I thought was impossible, inspiring me to draw again
Hey LavenderTowne, I have alot of trouble with designing characters (mainly animal ones) and I was wondering if you have any tips on how you made your characters???
I’m not the teacher but I would like to help what are your issues
I think she made a video on character design! Her tutorials are pretty good, so you should check it out!
@@lilyfae7197 Thanks!
Learn anatomy, human anatomy and animal anatomy are not so different, muscles and joints works in similar ways.
having themes is very fun for animal characters (and characters in general). For one of my animal ocs, he's based around peaches, which helps with the shapes I used and the color palette! (also his personality!)
Hopefully this helped haha
For me, Prismacolors work just as well as Copics
KD Comments same! I don’t get all the hate for prismacolours! They are really good and I love the design of them, the ink is great and never streaky.
Okay thanks I’m done lol
My favorite art supply was definitely the clear paintbrush!! I actually got one as a gift from my aunt when she came for thanksgiving! I would suggest it to anyone who likes watercolor without having to carry around a cup of water and a brush! my other art suppplies I would suggest are: A wacom Graphire! It's a digital tablet, an older model without a viewing screen. But it's so smooth, and I haven't had any issues with it in the past 7 years! My last art supply I would suggest is definitely the Micron fine liners! The brush pens from Micron are not that well made in my opinion, but the fine liners are pretty great! I can lay them over top of graphite and erase without damaging the ink! Thank you LavenderTowne for your suggestions! Have a happy Holiday!!
That watercolor brush is brilliant!
How did you learn how to draw so good 😍

@Belle me too
My koi watercolor travel kit def! It's convenient! Has a little space for my brush, my eraser and some extra watercolor paper. I adore it
I watercolor on the go regularly (I use koi watercolors) and I can confirm, it's really good. Clear watercolor brushes like that are a godsend tbh.
I'm getting 80 copics for Christmas! Is there is anything I should know about them? (as it will be my first time using them)
watch a ton of videos on copic blending! The colors are super pigmented so its good to use a lot of transition shades when blending. also make sure to use the right fineliners. Microns work really well ^^
Use blending card appropriate for alcohol inks. Draw a sketch first in pencil, colour within the lines and then go over the linework with ink to avoid smudging.
I recommend getting "Colorless Blender". If you were to colour outside the line by mistake, the marker cleans up the mess real good. 👍
The specific brand I use is "X-Press It" blending card.
I can’t say if this is the same for comics since I use a cheaper brand (one touch I think they’re called) but when “outlining” a shape don’t go straight to the edge because the ink spread out and makes shapes slightly larger :P oh and when putting down a base colour, go for the lightest shade of the base colour you have, darken it later but that way you can build shading until it looks how you want :) good luck!!!

Hi! Idk if you'll see this but I just want to say you have been a huge influence on me throughout my past three years of self taught artistry. My style has taken on some similarity to yours (mainly the nose) and I like the final product. I'm just struggling with drawing different hairstyles right now, and a small case of same face syndrome. Not to mention I stink at posing
