Harrenhal has been featured in House of Dragons, the great council in the first scene of the pilot was the great hall at Harrenhal, and then Harwin and Lyonel Strong are burned alive by Larys also at Harrenhal
Balerion burned this largest castle in Westeros during the conquest. This castle is generally very connected with fire, and those who live in it are unlucky
That scene with Renly and Stannis is one of my favorites. It shows the characteristics of both really well, Renly making jokes and bein good with his words, Stannis being serious and unforgiving. The offer that Stannis made to Renly was a good one, and despite Renly being a good and likeable guy, he has no claim to the throne. Realistically he should just accept the offer because he would still have a great position and influence if Stannis were to become king
Stannis' offer to Renly was more than good, it was better than it should've been considering Renly's treason. The Baratheon conflict has always been one of the worst plotlines for me; the whole thing is based around Renly deciding he wants to be King and so he tries to supplant Stannis. Why? Because flower dude says Renly's a good boy, that they got excess money to waste for shits and giggles, and that it would be swell to fight a war 🤷🏻♂
@@lshe97 Renly decided to be king because he had the support of the people unlike Stannis, "a man without friends is a man without power". He saw an opportunity to be king himself. Not saying he should've done it but to me that's the reason for the conflict.

The castle where Arya, Gendry and Hotpie were taken is Harenhall. The opening scene in House of the Dragon took place at Harenhall and it’s mentioned several times over Season 1.
Can you remember from last episode why Littlefinger came to Renly's camp? Tyrion said to him, "My brother Jaime rots in a Northern stockade - I would see him released. That's where you come in." Petyr replied, "Robb Stark will never release the Kingslayer." Tyrion said, "No he won't, but his mother might... How would you like to see your beloved Cat again?" Littlefinger's snakey behaviour is just him playing out Tyrion's plan, which he called "my next deception". Even if you like him, remember Tyrion is still the enemy of the Starks - you can't be mad at Baelish and not Tyrion on this matter. The complexity of the politics is so good because we like people on both sides.
It is strange how people forget that as you say, Tyrion sent him on this mission just an episode ago. I've even seen people completely misinterpret the return of Ned's bones as something terrible.
I need you guys to try to remember, Joffrey is the ultimate sack of fermenting manure, but also remember that the actor Jack Gleeson is an amazing actor and according to the other cast members, he was a pure delight to work with and an all round good kid.
Danerys didn’t want to show them her dragons because she knows that, given the chance, they would likely kill her and her people and take the dragons, and she and her people would be too weak and vulnerable to stop them. Remember, they have a city full of people that likely includes an army. As long as the existence of the dragons is unconfirmed, The Thirteen have no reason to believe they actually exist since no one living has ever seen a dragon.
Joffrey, as I'm afraid that scene with Ros and the other girl made all too clear, is an almost classic textbook sadist. He's never happier or more excited than when he is inflicting pain or humiliation on someone.
I also like how Ned continues to have a presence even after his death, he was an important character and not only his life but his death will have an impact on the show that is long lasting.
Spartan has a great insight on Tywin, who is absolutely cold-blooded, but very strategic. He knows how to lead and how to command, and he learns from his mistakes. He learned early on (by experience) not to underestimate Robb Stark, for example. He comes down hard on subordinates when needed, but at other times he eases off to examine how people can serve his purposes. But make no mistake -- he only countenances people who will serve his purposes. Everyone else might as well not exist to him. And because he is the wealthiest war lord in Westeros, he doesn't need to be coy about it.
I think Tywin views the position of The Hand as a position of power - especially during his own reign as Hand to Aerys, he was essentially ruling the Kingdom. The Kingsguard, while highly honourable and taking a lot of skill, is a position of service. Kingsguard is fine for a lesser man to aim for, but I think he wants Jaime to aim to rule - to be the head of House Lannister at the very least. Had Jaime somehow stepped into the Master of War position on the Small Council, I think that would have been preferable to Tywin
The red priestess Milesandre is a sorceress from the shadowlands city of Asshai. Asshai is a strangely eerie place where all sorts of dark magic are practiced. It has been said that Dragons originated from the ghost grass fields along the city. The City attracts those who seek knowledge of the deeper mysteries and the practice of the dark arts. This practice includes blood magic and shadow binding. Milesandre is a shadow-binding sorceress from Asshai.
This war is called the War of the Five Kings, meaning Joffery, Stannis, Renly, Robb and Balon Greyjoy. Robb and Balon are fighting for independence of their respective regions while the other 3 are fighting for Kings Landing and the Iron Throne to keep the 7 kingdoms together.
I've seen a few reaction videos of GoT, and I have to say, you are the only people so far whose intros and reviews I truly enjoy each time - so far to say that I look forward to them as much as the actual reaction: you guys really seem to pay attention to what's happening and try to analyse what you've seen, and not just react as big as possible to make for a good thumbnail, or joke around over the dialogue and miss half the stuff while doing it. I really appreciate that, so thank you for this sort of reaction style! In this ep, I particularly enjoyed your discussion on Tywin and other leaders, and that sparked some thoughts for me that I'd like to hear your input on sometime down the line: after you've seen a couple of seasons, or even the whole show, how do you think each Lannister child corresponds to Tywin's characteristics? I think the sibling trio is a bunch of really interesting characters, so I'm looking forward to your future thoughts on them! Anyway, thank you again for a great video, keep them coming!
"THAT was a threat. See the difference?!" Tyrion once again steals the scene he enters. It's like Varys said, he is a small man casting a VERY large shadow.
Spartan frustrates me. There are times when he predicts what will happen and other times he says things that make me wonder if he's even watching the show.
Harrenhal is the largest castle in all of Seven Kingdoms. But Aegon the Conqueror made his dragon Balerion burn a part of it along with the lord and his sons inside it, believing they were safe from any assault. Today it's infamously known to be a cursed place, as all of the lords that held it across its history met disastrous fate, that's why it has an ominous feel to it. Also this was the place where Lyonel and Harwin Strong got burned in HotD. You'd recall how Larys and Daemon mentioned about Harrenhal's curse.
Melisandre is also a Shadowbiner other than being a Red Priestess. "A Shadowbinder is a practitioner of magic capable of manipulating shadows to do their will. They seemingly hail from Asshai, one of the easternmost cities of the known world."
jesus can you imagine if spartan tried to watch this by himself? sometimes im curious wtf he thinks he's watching on the screen lol it's like a different show from what the rest of us see
You mentioned the thing that fully hooked me into Game of Thrones and got me to read all the novels. It was this thing about them not just being like, "WELL! This guy is dead! And now we never mention him again." This show does not forget the dead. They are, in many ways, the character's biggest influences throughout.
You've briefly been to Harrenhal in House of the Dragon. In the HOTD timeline it's ruled by House Strong, and it's where Larys has his brother and father killed.
If you look at the introductions with actors names it usually is the ones that are going to be in the episode that week. It took me a while to catch on to this. I love that they did that because you get to know all the real names of the actors. Years later I still remember their names.

I am marathoning your GOT reactions. Your anger towards Joffrey, your excitement when Tyrion is making moves, your love of Ned... I'm right there with you guys and loving it! Thank you for this treat! :D
It’s so fun to watch you both enjoying the show for the first time. I am one of those people who loved every season right to the end and seeing you two experiencing it at newbie’s takes me back to the excitement I and so many of us had in the beginning. If I had only one complaint it’s that I want more episodes from you each week. I get why you don’t and of course it’s okay but a viewer can dream anyway. I’m glad your channel popped up in my recommendations and now look forward to notifications of a new video from y’all. I’m watching some of your older vids like the The Witcher series too and I’m enjoying that stuff as well. ☮️ &❤️
I skip a lot of commentary with most reactors, but I always listen to you two. You're so smart and perceptive, it's really refreshing. Thanks for the reacts! I hope you keep enjoying the show!
@@adrammelech6323 They both have caught on to things the other hasn't, and both have predicted things correctly or wrongly, if you actually pay attention,
the thing with Daenerys is that she didn't want to risk showing them her dragons cause they could simply close the gates on her people and it would've been all for nothing. she was far from Qarth, they invited her and said they would be honoured to host Dany, so she traveled all the way and waste her last bit of resources to get there, just for they to refuse her. she had to certify that her people would receive the right treatment before showing them her dragons (not to say they could simply steal them)
I think even with you both analyzing everything I think there are some things that will still make more sense on a rewatch. This is one of the few shows that I can continue to see new things and I’m so here for your journey
Back on first showing, so many viewers really turned against Sansa for "collaborating" with the Lannisters - she was seriously unpopular. I'm delighted that you're already understanding that she is doing what she can to live through an impossible nightmarish situation. For me, Sansa is the bravest character in the show. The actor who played Joffrey was a student in Dublin at the time of the show, and he couldn't go out in the city because entire pubs full of people would queue up to punch his lights out XD Call it a compliment to his portrayal of a foul character.
I think Dany is being very protective of the dragons because they are extremely valuable. Many people would try to take them (and do what it takes to get them).
What you said about Ned's death and his presence in the story is so true, and in the books it's also part of the great storytelling, that the early death of this seemingly main character was shocking and felt like it was absurd and pointless, but then the memory of this honorable character permeates the rest of the story in the emotional motivations of house Stark and all of the family's characters' arcs, and is also like a golden standard against which they are measured as they learn to be warriors and rulers.
That’s a great point you both make about how Ned’s death left a presence. You’ll continue to see how his death is SUPER relevant and matters later on. It makes deaths in the show horribly sad, but VALUABLE.
Tywin beliefs in making examples of some enemies and helping and uplifting others. He recognises that ruling through fear alone is dangerous. In the books he also educates joffrey on the fact that he can't just be a cunt. You need to inspire loyalty. Tywin is genuinely a good ruler. Everything he ever ruled prospered. Also fun fact, Tywin is one of the only characters in the show and in the books that actually married purely out of love. His cousin Joanna. I view tywin as a broken man. It has been said that tywin did smile somewhat back in the day. But it is a big thing in the books that tywin literally never smiles. But he did smile when he was with joanna, he smiled when jaime and cersei were born, he smiled when he became hand of the king and it has been said (but i dont remember where so this might not be canon) that he was capable of smiling (although rarely) with His friends Aegon Targaryan and Steffon Baratheon (the father of robert, stannis and Renly but they died when stannis and robert were young while they were looking on. Their parents died in a ship ). Tywin didn't like laughter because everyone was laughing at house lannister when his father was in charge. Tyrion has many traits of tywin but also of his father who he loved somewhat but also hated for the type of man he was. His father wanted to be liked by others at all costs, liked parties , drinking and liked whoring. This combined with the fact that tyrion killed joanna through childbirth is why he resents tyrion as well as the fact that he is a dwarf. But after joanna's death tywin never smiled again. And i think his obsession with legacy grew worse as a way to cope with his wife's death because he never truly griefed.
As you say every episode is massive which is amazing because in my opinion the show is still ramping up and is yet to reach full throttle so strap in because you are about to witness something very special which on several occasions will provide you with probably the best episodes of any TV show ever. I know that's a big claim but I am far from alone in this belief. In fact I am so jealous that you are getting to experience it for the very first time, I hope you manage to avoid any & all spoilers for maximum impact. As always thank you for keeping us entertained and Blessings from the UK.
The thing with the Qarth scene is that if Dany shows them her dragons and confirms their existence, I think she was afraid that the Qartheen would just slaughter them all there and steal her dragons the way everyone else would. But, you’re right, it is an odd scene considering that scene did not even exist in the books.
Pudgey is so funny when she has that "Blond" moment in the intro. LOL. And whoever is the cameraman doing the editing? Comedy Gold zooming in on her! And I love the way Spartan looked at her and controlled his reaction and let Pudgey make fun of herself. It's just fun to me when you are serious but not so serious as to not have fun with it.
I'm stuck on around the clock feedings for a bunny who's under the weather - this is perfect timing! Edit: She's doing much better; took meds on her own this morning and demanded her banana for lunch.

I'm surprised this got past the moderators. Now they know Tyrion will survive future events that they otherwise might have been worried about his safety. Well done.
Stannis made Renly a more than fair offer! Renly is usurping the Right of his older brother, who is the _One True King_ of Westeros by all laws of gods and men!
I really wish you guys would watch episodes 2 at a time, like you did for season 1 episodes 9 and 10. because the world is so huge, it can be hard to remember everything waiting days between episodes. You could upload the reactions separately, but just for your own benefit it would be to watch 2 in a row to hep retain all the events. I know you have lives and are busy, and these vids take time to produce, but I think I speak for most people here that we really enjoy your GoT reactions. We just want more of them more often! Thanks for the video!
Stannis and Renly interaction is outside storm's end, the baratheon Castle. Also storms end has ancient magic beneayh it's foundations hence Melisandre needed to be across the walls to give birth to the shadow, They didn't have the budget earlier so they didn't show it
I’ll take some editing classes and edit y’all’s videos for free cause I NEED MOOOOOREE (respectfully) fkn love this channel.. crave these GoT reactions
Another great reaction guys... and you are so right - perhaps the single most powerful element of the storytelling in this series is that virtually every event, action, or decision has consequences. Consequences that have an impact on episodes, or sometimes seasons far into the future.
Hey You two! Love your videos -- about there being 4 Kings... its actually 5 : King Joffrey, King Renly, King Stannis, King Robb and King Baelon and there's a queen, Danaerys ;) It's called "the war of the 5 kings" :) Also wanted to mention about Harrenhal -- You have seen it before. The very first scene in house of the dragon takes place there, at the great council of 101 where Viserys was named heir and is also where Larys burned his father and brother, Larys now being it's Lord. .
I love how people who react to shows/movies can usually always bank on GoT reactions to build their channels the same way music reactors can use Eminem to grow theirs. Not saying the rest of their content, and them just being awesome isn't a part of it too. Just that there are some things that basically guarantee views...the subs definitely come from them being awesome people to watch. Loving the reactions!
The GoT community is indeed very awesome! But, we definitely pressured Spartan and Pudgey into watching it. They definitely had no idea what they were getting into when they started HotD lol
You have been to Harrenhal before in House of the Dragon - at that time it was the seat of House Strong, it's where Harwin and Lyonel died, and in episode 10 Daemon said he is planning to gather an army there. It's also where the very first scene of all of HotD was set, the Great Council of 101. You've been to Pyke before, that's the seat of House Greyjoy. Volantis, where the nurse lady is from, is the biggest and oldest of the Free Cities in the other continent of Essos.
The books often play with opposites. The Lord of the Light often deals in shadows and darkness as they are a direct product of the light. It also subtly implies that the Light =/= Goodness. Melisandre's frequent saying is that "The Night is Dark and Full of Terrors," implying that true power resides in the darkness. The source of the magic in this world often seems to also involve blood (remember the horse sacrifice back in Season 1?). "Only death can pay for life."
They have shown Pyke in the previous episodes in the intro - it's the ireland Islands where the Greyjoys are from, Harrenhall was shown I'm the first ep of House of the dragon when Visarys was chosen as a king.
U guys are gr8, I love & appreciate the fantastic reactions!😄 It's pretty mad 2 hear ya use terms like "gettin cut" in the context of bein pissed off!- So Aussie lol!👌 Much love & sendin good vibes from Brisbane y'all xo 🥰 💜🇦🇺

pudgey knows her flirting... she spotted that look with rob so fast lol good intuition again getting into the meat of the series now, getting familiar with some names and families 👍
In addition to Daenerys being protective of her dragons/children, she's also royalty, a Khaleesi. If you remember, in season 1, Daenerys and her brother were guests in their host's luxurious home for over a year. Her point of reference was that experience.
This episode had many tilt their heads as some felt this big magic stuff felt out of place, like with Melisandre(fire lady) to give birth to a... monster. I didn't mind it but it's funny some people complained about this when in the books, magic and the super natural is more crazy.
@@suddenimpulse030 yeah I know that is what I always said too. But i guess many thought it was just gonna be like medieval time style. Even though we have seen undead beings and dragons XD
@@TheRealRealMClovin I was surprised when some of our watch party on first viewing were dismissive of the magic or the dragons. Probably because I had read the books. They came from the point of view of wanting an epic action, battle show. So they didn't expect any of the supernatural bits. Kind of like when my hubs told me he liked Star Trek not Star Wars because Star Wars was too woo woo & not scientific. (Conversation in the late 90s) Um okay. So a lot of our viewing party wanted/expected medieval set 300 or Gladiator.
@@theConquerersMama It's wierd they expect no super natural or big magic stuff when the first ever scene shows an undead being cuting of a mans head like nothing XD
@@TheRealRealMClovin 😂 right? I think that they liked stuff like Lord of the Rings inspite of the magic not because of it. I think it's the idea of unseen or unpredictable forces at work rather than just things that might have simple but unknown reasons.
Harrenhall is the Castle of House Strong in House of the Dragons. That was also the one the Tyrion promised to LittleFinger
"Kings have no friends, only subjects and enemies."

The way Pudgey looked at Spartan when he was like “ The Nights Watch!” 28:32🤣🤣
Anyway, thank you again for a great video, keep them coming!
we really appreciate the feedback 😃❤ we aim to be genuine in all our reactions so we are glad you are enjoying it

"THAT was a threat. See the difference?!" Tyrion once again steals the scene he enters. It's like Varys said, he is a small man casting a VERY large shadow.
Loved that line!
A bit of Trivia:
Talisa is played by Oona Chaplin, granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin.
Unfortunately most people these days won't know who Charlie Chaplin is. Many don't even know who Charles Dance (Tywin) is.

@@Blafard666 At this point he should be able to differentiate between factions through their color coordination.
Dude don't spoil.

Melisandre is also a Shadowbiner other than being a Red Priestess. "A Shadowbinder is a practitioner of magic capable of manipulating shadows to do their will. They seemingly hail from Asshai, one of the easternmost cities of the known world."
its realy wierd to se the joffrey actor in real life, he is actually a realy nice guy!
Volantis is one of the Nine Free Cities of Essos. It's the oldest and, some say, the most beautiful city on the continent.
in a time when magic is practically forgotten, imagine what an advantage it is to have someone like the red woman by your side!
jesus can you imagine if spartan tried to watch this by himself? sometimes im curious wtf he thinks he's watching on the screen lol it's like a different show from what the rest of us see
literally lmao it drives me crazy

awesome we are so glad to hear that!
I skip a lot of commentary with most reactors, but I always listen to you two. You're so smart and perceptive, it's really refreshing. Thanks for the reacts! I hope you keep enjoying the show!
Well at least one of them is
@@adrammelech6323 They both have caught on to things the other hasn't, and both have predicted things correctly or wrongly, if you actually pay attention,
the thing with Daenerys is that she didn't want to risk showing them her dragons cause they could simply close the gates on her people and it would've been all for nothing.
she was far from Qarth, they invited her and said they would be honoured to host Dany, so she traveled all the way and waste her last bit of resources to get there, just for they to refuse her.
she had to certify that her people would receive the right treatment before showing them her dragons (not to say they could simply steal them)
Yay someone that pays attention to the show. Well done. =)
I'm glad you included the hysteria over being asked on your thoughts at the beginning 🤣
margaery is my favorite character from early seasons, she knew how to play the game of thrones but wasn't evil while doing it, my queen!
@31:40
Pudgey's face is priceless. She's like, "Who is this dumbass sitting beside me and what is he watching?" 😂😂
"So does he want to have sex with her or what?"
The look she gave him was literally EVERYONE! hahaha!
28:30 😮”The knights watch!” 😮
🧐🙄 “That’s Tywin” - her eyes 👀🤭😂😂😂
That’s a great point you both make about how Ned’s death left a presence. You’ll continue to see how his death is SUPER relevant and matters later on. It makes deaths in the show horribly sad, but VALUABLE.
"His face was just like, so good" I agree Pudgey, agree...😏😅
Another great episode. Keep the reactions coming guys 🤘🏻
Not gonna lie, that cut off “King in the North!” scene hurts a little. That one gave me chills…
OH MY GOD I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THEM TO REACT TO THE ENDING OF THIS EPISODE 😂😂😂😂
Same. Same.
Not a commentor generally however I must say this episode had some outstanding discussion.
Appreciate you coming out of the woodwork to say that Pat! They will definitely appreciate the feedback.
thank you!!
Pudgey's chuckling-fit tho lololol
The short relationship between Tywin and Arya is awesome.
In the Books, a grown Direwolf is as big as a Pony
Great reaction! I have been waiting for this one for awhile!
The actor who plays Joffrey got a card from the author of the GOT books that said something like "Congratulations, everyone hates you".

ALL HAIL STANNIS THE MANNIS!
Also storms end has ancient magic beneayh it's foundations hence Melisandre needed to be across the walls to give birth to the shadow, They didn't have the budget earlier so they didn't show it
The "writers" who made Ned's presence powerful after his death was George RR Martin btw
this.
“The shadows have come to dance my lord!
Dance my lord!
The shadows have come to stay my lord!”
Love the dynamic between you guys 😂.
Ned is gonna be with us in spirit for the whole show. You always remember him when something happens.
They have shown Pyke in the previous episodes in the intro - it's the ireland Islands where the Greyjoys are from, Harrenhall was shown I'm the first ep of House of the dragon when Visarys was chosen as a king.
The Ireland islands? 🤔 You mean Iron, right? 😉

23:20 Just want to make sure Spartan’s points are up on the board (corrects Pudgey’s reasoning that staring at the Mountain was logical) 🙃
In addition to Daenerys being protective of her dragons/children, she's also royalty, a Khaleesi. If you remember, in season 1, Daenerys and her brother were guests in their host's luxurious home for over a year. Her point of reference was that experience.
The one actor who deserved an emmy the most in this entire series was Michelle fairly, every single sigh evokes emotion
she made pudgey cry! "GET OUT"
The ham that was promised
Nice one.
This episode had many tilt their heads as some felt this big magic stuff felt out of place, like with Melisandre(fire lady) to give birth to a... monster. I didn't mind it but it's funny some people complained about this when in the books, magic and the super natural is more crazy.
That is kind of funny because if anything the show tones down the magic in the books.
(Conversation in the late 90s)
Um okay.
Like they loved The Walking Dead parties and accepted the undead with no problem.
One friend said "if this is like the smoke monster on Lost, I am out."
Not everyone was hooked from the first episode or first season. Still trying to figure out what it was going to be.
