It’s actually kinda depressing that this game is as hated as it is. This was the first game I ever played on PS1, and the game that got me into F1 IRL. Regardless of whether or not it’s objectively good, I’ll always have a soft spot for it.
This was where the series went downhill. Bizarre Creations no longer involved. Bizarrely F1 97 had better graphics and sound. 98 looked and sounded worse than the first game.
I disagree about the sound it sounds way better here The f1 97 sound is so uncomfortable to me Also I'm worse in f1 97 than f1 98. I'm controlling it better than 97 In 97 I tried to turn and ended up in a spin 2 times...
One of the worst F1 games ever, if not the worst ever. We had two excellent F1 games on the PS1, Formula One and Formula 1 97, and then we got this diabolical piece of crap. I thankfully bought this not long ago on eBay rather than full priced back in the end, but still I couldn't help but think my £3 was well and truly wasted, it could have gone towards a nice tasty lunch, but instead it went towards this. Never mind going back on eBay, it's going in the bin.
It is indeed pretty poor game, however I found F-1 World Grand Prix on N64 to be even worse than Formula 1 98. Which is an achievement in itself. Kind of sad that many F1 are bad games.
I loved f1 & F1 CE (97). They made me a fan of the sport in my teenage years.Thankfully I missed this & 99 back then. The EA series got better every game basically.
Same gonna play f1 2020 after 22 years rofl The realistic graphics made me buy it And also its nostalgic to play on the old grand prix I think i remember the paths
he was under licence from another game apparently. But if I recall rightly, you could edit his name in the 97 and 98 games anyway and put it in yourself (or any other name you like).

Went back up with 99 which was excellent imo.
Lmao the car models in F197 look atrocious, the game was great but the graphics were not

Miss the sound of old V10 F1 cars although in FORMULA ONE 98, these cars handled like 18 wheeler trucks.

99 is a lot better, still not as great as the original F1 and 97 but it was a step in the right direction nevertheless.
