I know the world has been waiting too long to see what Racing Jam is like but I appreciate you sticking with me! There will be many more videos on the Racing Jam Super Deluxe machine so be sure to subscribe and turn on bell notifications! This video showcases the circuit night course, which is a very unique course because it allows you to drive against traffic at 200 MPH! It's simple to learn and very competitive. In this video, I had the difficulty set pretty low to give me the most amount of time. On the higher difficulties, it is much less forgiving and is genuinely difficult to finish due to the strict timer. I imagine this was the most popular course in the game because in Racing Jam Chapter II, Konami brought it back but added 2 additional corners to the middle section to make it more fun. I bought the machine non-working but I got it going by installing my own working Racing Jam board set. I spent about twice as much to ship the machine then I did to actually buy it. (It came from Texas and I live in California). Currently, the H-gate shifter is having a grounding issue and the only pedal that moves is the brake pedal. The gas and clutch pedals are frozen, they will not move! In order to play the game, I rewired the brake pedal to function as the gas pedal. The handbrake works fine and is my only means of braking, which is very useful for the other tracks in the game. Despite these issues, they are nothing I can't fix and the game is still incredibly fun.
There are a lot of ways you could fix the pedals, maybe wd 40, maybe there is some dirt keeping it in place, you could even try rebuilding the assembly
You never know how much it means to me to finally see my childhood game properly recorded and uploaded for the world to see. Thank you so much for uploading this!
I remember that game, although only the Chapter II (which is in Twin cabinet version) that I played in my home town (Philippines), from 2010 - 2013 (maybe?). Too fun, exciting and enjoyable, but very rare nowadays to find again. I'm extremely glad that you made the Super Deluxe cabinet to work, since in my opinion - the last one to exist before being extinct on the long run for the last more than 2 decades (about 22 years from now). Wish that it was ported to home consoles, especially on Microsoft Windows (PC), Sega DreamCast and even through the next-gen ones (e.g. PS2, OG XBOX, GameCube), but yeah, they don't pretty much care from the fans out there. Plus, keep up the updates on that game, since you would do some captured footages for the gameplay later on. Very thanks and good job, Vectrex4Life (Jason)! Well, my childhood memories went back with hard-hitting nostalgia.
Oh really I live in the Philippines too so I guess that old racing jam machine isn't there anymore isn't it but hey there's a lot of cool arcades here even containing 90s games
Well, the game now runs much better on MAME (the NWK-TR Twin version at least). I tried it and the graphics are now much better looking (not sure how correct is it compared to actual arcade) and in my laptop (i7 8750H, 1050Ti) it doesn't run too bad (the game speed fluctuates from 40%ish when more than 2 cars appear on screen to 100% on Gymkhana and bonnet camera view). In fact, I can see it playable enough on high end PC, and with time optimization will allow more machines to run it properly.
Extremely happy to know you’re back ☺️ especially since I’m pretty sure you live close to me 😂 it’s nice to see someone from around here doing RUclips. Keep it up!
Ooooooh. I used to go to a game centre that had 2 of these in a pair but they were a version with a smaller CRT screen. This and Scud Race (or Sega Super GT) cabinets were where I spent most of my pocket moneys in late 90s/early 2000s...
God, words cannot describe how excited I was when I saw the photos on your Twitter. I never got to play this but wanted to so badly for a while but couldn't since no access to a cabinet and emulation isn't playable. I hope you do more with this and Chapter II, both games are definitely more I would like to see!
😱WOW THIS IS AMAZING! you've just taken me back to my 12 year old self 👦🏻 when I was boy in the arcade. (I'm mid 30's now) I remember there was a huge lineup the first few weeks oft this game in my arcade. As the next best thing as the time I think was Daytona Racing. What kept me back was soundtracks that played during the race cause they seemed super catchy. 💃 Thanks for posting this, it really brings in the nostalgia.
First played Racing Jam on the regular deluxe cabinet back in the late 90's. GameWorks in Grapevine, Texas had RJ Chapter II running in a super deluxe back in the 2000's. They closed down 10 years ago so I have no clue if they even still have that cabinet in their warehouse or few remaining open locations.
At last, gameplay footage from the Super Deluxe version of Racing Jam on the Cobra Hardware is finally here for all to see! This is incredible! I've never played Racing Jam before, but it looked impressive and amazingly fun. As a fan of Arcade racing games, I really wish I could come across the game or it's sequel 'Chapter II' and give it a shot, but there doesn't appear to be any of them around in the UK, at least to my knowledge. Hardware-wise the Cobra version appears to be far superior than the NWK-TR version. However, the only downside to the SDX is that the cost for that beast is INSANE! No wonder the Cobra version is very difficult to get a hold of in a functional state, thanks to those suicide batteries that KONAMI had added onto the boards! Thank you so much for sharing this rarity, I'll be looking forward to see more of it in action!
Hey, I was wondering if I could bother you to get the RTC timekeeper file from the board? I'm trying to fix my dead board, but unfortunately Mame doesn't have it and it doesn't appear to be dumped. Any help would be most appreciated!

I had a hard time remembering the name of it because it’s not listed in Wikipedia’s list of racing games, maybe u can do the honors of adding it! I spent almost the last 3 hours looking for it on the web haha, watched your vid to confirm. If u find a lead on the first 2, please don’t hesitate to send me a holler haha. Cool channel dude👍🏼!
Nice! Any chance of seeing some of the Gymkhana courses? I remember seeing a good player navigate the cones when the game was in my local Sega Park arcade back in 1999 (it was the normal Deluxe cabinet) Didn't play it that much myself as wasn't much of a racing fan back then.

Pretty nice, and what a enormous machine! It only rivals Sega's Three-screen F355 in size, not to mention the sense of speed and its groovy soundtrack. Racers back then were meant to be fun and remarkable, something completely lost by today. As per the hardware, at 1 million polys 60 fps, Cobra must have been a beast akin to Model 3. I saw this game along time ago, didn't get a chance to play it..long line of quarters ahead of me, but it loomed awsome. I hope you find a way of maybe being able to use a modern monitor or maybe just polishing up the bulbs to make it look brighter.Cant wait to Ser more of this in the future!
Yeah at the time of this video I hadn't dialed in the projector. The way it works is a normal LCD projector hits 2 mirrors in the back of the machine, then the image is displayed on the transparent screen. It's certainly possible to ditch the entire screen unit and the projector in favor of a big curved LCD TV, but I want to preserve the machine's originality.
Can you show us in a future video what the Operator Menu allows you to do? I’m mainly interested in the Adjustments like Game Difficulty, and whether or not Traffic can be disabled.
Saludos
You've also heard of another Konami arcade game that, believe it or not, is actually 10 times more rarer if not way more obscure than Racing Jam? It's a futuristic racing game called Road Rage, known as Speed King in Japan, released in 1995 and only came in a huge motion simulator cabinet as no deluxe or twin cabinet versions of that game ever existed. It ran on the ZR107 hardware which is the same hardware that Racing Jam's spiritual predecessors Midnight Run and Winding Heat ran on. However, unlike Racing Jam and its two aforementioned predecessors, no ROM dump of the arcade game exists and is thus not playable in MAME, given that the machine is so huge, it is very very very rare, even in its loose PCB set form as so far, no one on KLOV is known to be in possession of it. The only way the arcade game can be played emulation-wise is via the very subpar PlayStation port (Yes, you heard correctly: This and Midnight Run are the only Arcade racing games by Konami to have received home console ports) which was only released in Japan and Europe. If you manage to get hold of that incredible holy grail that is the Road Rage arcade machine, you should also do videos on the game as unlike the subpar PlayStation port, there is absolutely no footage of the original Arcade game anywhere online, unlike with Racing Jam when you came about to post videos of that game that had no videos of it seen before you.
Yes, I'm fully aware of Speed King / Road Rage. There are / were 2 or 3 videos of the arcade version on RUclips. I see it as more of a ride than a game (like the Sega R360) since there's not much depth to the gameplay. I have the PS1 port and it's not bad. Nothing amazing but not bad. I'm just glad the port exists, hehe. If I did somehow aquire the arcade PCB, I would do a video on it.
Man, I could swear I have played this, or a derivative of it before. It must've been Italy, ~2015? All the menus, sounds, graphics etc are all 100% similar and so familiar. Including the 'Get Ready to Jam' soundbyte. For what I recall, I played this on a regular-CRT arcade machine, which had the capability to link up to the one next to it.
@@Vectrex4Life Aha! It seems the one I played back in the day was Racing Jam Chapter II. What a great game. I miss arcade machines being a common thing. Nothing like gathering a bunch of people together trying to top eachother's highscore. The 'ooh's and 'aah's from the spectators, too, were something truly unique.
When ya picked automatic I was quite confused until you said that the shifter was broken that makes sense also that sucks that the shifter is broken hopefully you can fix it
I would love to have the machine inside, but even if you break it up, the pieces are too wide to fit through a standard door. Since I live in southern California, rain is uncommon and when it does rain, it's covered with tarps, so I'm doing all I can to keep it in good condition.
Finally, a steering wheel, clutch, brake, & transmission shift (I don’t know why transmission shift is broken) Last year, you brought a racing jam chapter 2 an the real hardware, but the clutch or transmission was a problem.
Heyy any chance you still have Nodtronics The Best 200 Games Limited Edition? I would be interested in getting in contact with you to acquire this, or an ISO of it, and would be happy to pay for your time.
Yes, I will be making direct capture videos. The game looks different when displayed on a normal monitor but perhaps I can manipulate it in editing to simulate what you would be seeing if you were to play the machine in real life.
Very surprised that you brought this expensive piece of equipment there. I've never played this game in your arcades It seems to be very underrated game has not been recognized as much like Daytona USA for example. I think this game needs more attention. Konami has some pretty good racing games such as GTI club and Road Fighter for example. But I still prefer SEGA arcade racers. This game however looks fun even though there's incomplete emulation of the hardware in MAME. Somehow it kind of an infusion between Initial D and Gran Turismo 1 IMO. Otherwise this is very great content I'll be looking forward to your channel
Thank you! I really enjoy Konami's racing games too. A fusion between Initial D and Gran Turismo 1 sums up Racing Jam well. It's not a simulator, but it does have tunable cars and real-world techniques that you can apply.
See. In all fairness I have every piece to this puzzle... I just need to build it... the shifter on the side genius. I dont have an E but still the placement is great. It just needs a bee - I mean drink holder where the view change is
I believe it's a grounding issue. The microswitches themselves work and you can put it into gear, but often times the switches won't stay activated. Disassembly it isn't super quick and the manual doesn't tell you much about it, but I would think it's a grounding issue.
I have played Scud Race quite as much but I would say Racing Jam is more realistic. You have to get to know the cars before you can succeed in the gymkhana courses. I believe this version of Racing Jam was dumped in 2010 but it still hardly does anything in MAME.
@@Vectrex4Life So I guess it's closer to Battle Gear then. That's cool actually, would love to play it! Well at least the ROM exists. Emulation will catch up sooner or later. I mean even Konami M2 is now emulated, although is too slow to be played. Now I wish I have access to this machine near my place. I have always wanted to try this game, but my only choice at the moment is emulation (which is not quite there yet). The only Konami racing game I've played on real hardware are Midnight Run and Thrill Drive 3.
It doesn't, unfortunately. I recall reading an a Japanese blog post or something about the game and the poster said who created it, but I don't remember where I found that. Racing Jam does have some unused sound effects and voice clips on the hard drive, that came from Konami's Winding Heat, so it's likely that they were by the same development team. Racing Jam was by far Konami's ultimate racing game of the 90s.
@@Vectrex4Life I see. The inclusion of the winding road courses do hint to the dev team being the same as Winding Heat. If you happen to come by that blog post again, could you send it here? I'd really love to read it!

He bacc.
Edit: would’ve loved a more talk, personally don’t like white text
the secret car is a stagea with option stickers on it, but i can't remember how to unlock it! i played the hell out of this at chuck e. cheese in clearwater florida
Took you long enough to upload!
Great video!
This looks fun
Review coming soon...?
Good to see you're doing well
can you do a forgotten games on racing jam i'd love to see it!
Saludos
Move the shifter when hovering over the nissan gtr for a wagon version
That does sound like Racing Jam! It was sold as a standard twin machine with 27 inch CRTs.
I fucking love you baby keep up the good content my brother!
When ya picked automatic I was quite confused until you said that the shifter was broken that makes sense also that sucks that the shifter is broken hopefully you can fix it
Love your content dude, but the fact that such a rare cabinet is being stored outside just rubs me the wrong way.
I would love to have the machine inside, but even if you break it up, the pieces are too wide to fit through a standard door. Since I live in southern California, rain is uncommon and when it does rain, it's covered with tarps, so I'm doing all I can to keep it in good condition.
Ok now I know I said this last time. But this is also pretty epic
Daytona USA 2: "I'm about to end this man's whole career."
Nostalgia is all I'm feeling rn
I really wanted to see working SDX Racing Jam! Would you please play Gymkhana course If possible.Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, a steering wheel, clutch, brake, & transmission shift (I don’t know why transmission shift is broken)
Last year, you brought a racing jam chapter 2 an the real hardware, but the clutch or transmission was a problem.
How did you afford this?
Dude what up with that funky music? Any list?
LCD projection in 1997 👀
Heyy any chance you still have Nodtronics The Best 200 Games Limited Edition? I would be interested in getting in contact with you to acquire this, or an ISO of it, and would be happy to pay for your time.
The music is just cheesy and great, gotta love old arcade music
Wow
could you do a direct capture if possible? thank you
Yes, I will be making direct capture videos.
Shoooooot das a money for a arcade machine
Dude nice find! If you can you gotta find someone who can dump the game files ASAP for preservation's sake
Thanks, I think it was first dumped in the late 2000s and mine is the same version. We've been waiting a while to be able to play it in MAME.
Yep and the dump may have been incomplete, regardless if you have the chance get it dumped for another sample to compare 🙏
The game looks fucking fun!!!
First!! Love that your back man :D
How much did it cost you?
NICE! But, there's no way an MX-5 will do 190+MPh ;) Good luck getting past 124 with a Gen 2.
Back when Konami actually made good games.
See. In all fairness I have every piece to this puzzle... I just need to build it... the shifter on the side genius. I dont have an E but still the placement is great. It just needs a bee - I mean drink holder where the view change is
Been awhile since i've seen that face! (And the voice)
Do you think, repairing the shifter is possible? What exactly is wrong with it?
I believe it's a grounding issue. The microswitches themselves work and you can put it into gear, but often times the switches won't stay activated. Disassembly it isn't super quick and the manual doesn't tell you much about it, but I would think it's a grounding issue.
Physics wise, how is it compared to SCUD Race?
Also, if it hasn't been done, dump the ROM ASAP.
Did the game have a staff roll? It'd be nice to know the team behind this.
@@Vectrex4Life Late reply, but I recently read "The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers" and Masaaki Kukino's profile stated him as being the director of Racing Jam. Makes sense since he was also the director of Winding Heat.
Have you thought of dumping the rom online?
This SDX version was dumped years ago, but no version of Racing Jam is playable in emulation as of right now, unfortunately.
@@Vectrex4Life hopefully someday it will be. It looks like fun
