What part of Russia is a "dictatorship" do too many people not understand? 'Dictatorships...' don't even allow their own people to speak out, or know the truth!
So why on earth would think for a moment they would tell "you" the truth?

If a Russian person even calls this a 'war...' they can face upwards of "10 years" or more in jail, or worse be murdered by the regime. Putin has said this 'war...' has to be called a "special military operation."
Russian soldiers are brutalised, lied to and tortured by their own government. The families how lose loved ones, few get the death payments promised them, and soldiers themselves are left often with no pay or weapons with substandard equipment, which left many to freeze to death in winter.
There are no free fair elections in Russia under Putin - all free media and political opposition has been shut down, journalists, politicians and ordinary people - imprisoned or murdered!
Many have been taken in by Russian disinformation: by the way it was Russia under Stalin and the KGB in 1923 which arrived at the concept and coined the word 'disinformation!' They even gave it a Western sounding name, so we would more easily adopt it... so that worked?
Putin has murdered "100 000s" of people in Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine and elsewhere in the world.
Syria, was a people's uprising as a result of the Arab Spring, which began in Tunisia in 2010, as a result Assad slaughtered peaceful protesters with gunships. The people fought bravely for years, but when Damascus was about to fall, Assad called in Putin. Assad and Putin then murdered "100 000s" of people, dropping bombs on children in their schools, burning them alive!
In Russia itself, if people even call the Ukraine Russia War, a "war..." they can face up to "10 years" in jail, or if someone is a high profile politician or public figure, then can be imprisoned or even murdered.
A recent UN stated the in a terror campaign orchestrated by Putin... "children" as young as '4' years old are being tortured and raped.
We must act to stop this, and support the people of Ukraine to ensure this ends... in defeating the Putin Regime this could be a turning corner for humanity, in our search to end war, and all injustice?

There is a bigger picture beyond winning or losing. Russia had to be shown that the Western world will come together when needed, that NATO will expand its sphere of influence, and that even a much smaller country like Ukraine will not be easily conquered as Putin had hoped to do within a few weeks. Also, that the West can outspend Russia, costing it its soldiers, economy, etc.

    • @johntowers1213
      @johntowers1213 Год назад +3

Thing is there is a big difference between being able to outspend Russia (which they clearly can) and having the will to outspend Russia which I seriously think they lack... just look how in the last 2 years the funding and popular support for Ukraine has fallen off as the war grinds on with no real end in sight.
Right now Ukraine is unable to function without western Support not just on the battle field but economically on the home front as well, the west effectively funds the Ukraine government to keep it operational..
however after 30 odd years of dumping Trillions into foreign conflicts that run for year if not decades without end the West and more importantly the western population at large has little appetite anymore for yet another endless war,
you can see the cracks appearing right now as most of that early optimize came to nothing and the dawning realization that there is once again no reasonable end in sight no matter the money being funneled into the conflict..
To be clear to date Russia has paid a hellish price for this war, loosing more men and equipment than I think NATO could stomach if the roles were reversed, but its does seem Russia is more committed to seeing this conflict to a bloody end than those it opposes in the West..at least as things appear right now.

The sheer amount of approving and cheering comments by ordinary Russians in response to videos depicting the atrocities against civilians and prisoners of war in Ukraine were just as shocking to Ukrainians as the war itself. We had somehow grown accustomed to the war, but the realization of who we have been living alongside all this time without even knowing it is still horrifying.

What are "securities guarantees"? In 1994 usa, germany and even russia has signed the security guarantees for Ukraine in exchange to Ukraine giving up on it's nukes - and how much did that provided of actual defense? The war was since 2015. Territiries were torn (Crimea) - noone lifted a finger at that stage to help. Nowadays they just say - give up more territories and lives of people for some other "guarantees".

Ukraine got its security guarantee when she was militarily neutral toward Russia. Then she decided to align itself against Russia and put that into her constitution, against the prevalent opinion of its people btw. That kind of realignment tends to shake things up wouldn’t you agree.

      2) Ukraine is independend country, and Russia or any other country can't dictate the direction and choices it's making, not, especially, by force. It's neither legal nor ethical. Unfortunately Russia doesn't know the meaning of those words.

Ukraines government decided to align against Russia militarily in 2007 or 2008. No territories were annexed at that time. And yea Ukraine is independent and sovereign. So is Mexico, but should she, in a feat of independence, decide to align herself militarily let’s say with China against US …. Geeky that’s real lame to assume that everyone who doesn’t support further demolition and murdering of Ukraine are paid in Rubles. You might as well assume that about the DW interviewer here. Ukraine’s leaders have always known their country doesn’t have the resources to fight this war, so they should have not taken the path way back before 2014. I bet you were one of those who hailed the Iraqi freedom too, where is it now. You forgot haven’t you.
