    Andy Townsend was a really good player at Norwich,Aston Villa and Chelsea&most likely could &would have played for England but JC snapped him up&what a blessing that was for Ireland!
    And off the field he always presented a sensible,intelligent and humourous demeanor..And these were great times for Ireland!.,The spirit& energy which had gripped the fans in 1988 just kept on building momentum!..

    Funny thing is, after the loss to Italy, Charlton said to one of the Irish players, “I reckon the Pope would have saved that one too!”
    And he was right, Packie cost us a few times.
