Lineker is a glory of world soccer and a genius of the sport on his own right. Because he was a genius he understands genius. I feel bad for him not getting the WC in 1990 due to England not having a goalie. My respects.
“Maradona has the ball, two mark him, he touches the ball. The genius of world football dashes to the right and leaves the third and is going to pass to Burruchaga. It’s still Maradona! Genius! Genius! Genius! Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta. Gooooooooooal! Gooooooooooal! I want to cry! Dear God! Long live football! Gooooooooooal! Diegoal! Maradona! It’s enough to make you cry, forgive me. Leaving in your wake so many Englishmen, so that the whole country is a clenched fist shouting for Argentina? Argentina 2, England 0. Diegoal, Diegoal, Diego Armando Maradona. Thank you, God, for football, for Maradona, for these tears, for this, Argentina 2, England 0.”
I think the biggest compliment you can pay Maradona is who were the other players in the teams he played with? Mostly people won't know because with respect to those players he massively outshone them. Think of all the other greats who have played and you will definitely be able to name players that were world class around them that helped give those players the space to play. He did it for club and Country. He did it on the biggest stage. He was simply in his time in a league all on his own. I will never forget his performance in the 86 world Cup he literally blew away team after team and scored the greatest individual goal in a world Cup. Messi is the closest to him technically but he never achieved the international success Maradona achieved.
Brilliant words from Gary - I agree with him not simply calling Maradona the greatest, there are Pele, Best and Messi in that mix too, but that second goal was surely the greatest individual goal of all time.
I am ok with the hand of God. We have seen similar occasions every now and then as well. Henry sticking it with the hand, Juventus getting penalties out of no where, even now with VAR they somehow still get it wrong. AND, on very important matches as well. BUT, as far as this game goes, I am ok with it..just because the next Maradona goal counted for 2 anyway :) Or maybe 3...Gary is not shy of his awe towards Maradona and I admire that to a man, acknowledging the genius that Diego was. By FAR the No1, for me sharing the spot only with phenomenon Ronaldo. I remember when I saw Ronaldo first time and I had seen Maradona on his prime live as well and I was:" Holy shit..here is the new Maradona finally!!!"...
And cause with or without the hand of god Maradona was destroying English defenders, in fact he was being tackled like the whole wc and before thad goal defenders we're actually struggling to touch him without doing a foul, thir only chance to win that Game was basically injuring Maradona and taking him off the pitch cause with him theres the result was obvious no matter the details
Regarding the hand of God goal, from when Diego passed the ball which was back passed by Terry Fenwick, Diego magically anticipated where the ball would end up, he made 15 yards, while all other players were ball watching, for a 5'5 player he scored a lot of goals with his head, but how on earth did he manage to get his head anywhere near a 6'2 Shilton with his arms up, ok, he added the last inch or two with his hand, but it was another piece of genius to be in that position regardless.
Diego Maradona, how you amazed and entertained 100's of millions perhaps even a Billion around the world. I only played football because you made me love the sport, and as a result I have enjoyed many years and made many life long friends, at times in life when I felt lost it was football that helped, my team mates I spoke to and team mates I helped in there time of need. I have medals and trophies and many happy memories, friends and old rivals who I sometimes see in traffic, a restaurant or super market, all because I saw Diego Maradona work magic with his feet, Argentina became my second team at every world cup and Napoli my second club. Through it all we see you still smile in this video, your tired legs once took you to highest greatest feats, then struggled to keep you steady on your feet, it saddens me that such a man died alone in his room when he influenced millions to enjoy being with so many others together on a football pitch. As a man I understand life gets tough and you get beat, so I never judged you in life's defeats, I hoped you would one day find in peace and grace us once again and give us another chapter, but no matter you gave us enough magic to last forever......Thank you Diego.

Yeah I remember 1986. School boys all over the world after school finish play and would pretend they were Maradona. During that world cup school boys allover the world were talking about Maradona. He was out of this world.
Maradona, in an unforgettable run, in the play of all time. Cosmic kite! What planet are you from? Leaving in your wake so many Englishmen, so that the whole country is a clenched fist shouting for Argentina? Argentina 2, England 0. Diegoal, Diegoal, Diego Armando Maradona. Thank you, God, for football, for Maradona, for these tears, for this, Argentina 2, England 0.”

The commentator instantly recognised what he just witnessed- a piece of magic
@@soumalya1234 It wasn't magic at all. He hand balled it and got away with it.
@Pete Mitchell lol
@@DaveyStraker the magic commentary was for the so called “Goal of the Century” it was not for not the “Hand of God” goal.
You are a true gentleman and great player yourself.
At least Gary is honest here, gotta give credit where it’s due .. but Maradona was some kinda special .. RIP Diego
Brilliant words from Gary - I agree with him not simply calling Maradona the greatest, there are Pele, Best and Messi in that mix too, but that second goal was surely the greatest individual goal of all time.
The greatest ever
Respect to Sir Lineker for being so objective and humble.
R.I.P Diego Armando Maradona 😞
Grazie mio capitano !
Ciao Diego 😢😢
Gary I love you, I grew up on you since I was a little boy. You are a great football player and a lovely person, thank you from the people of Israel
A thing of beauty! As an Irish man this was the greatest thing I've ever seen!!!
I am Argentinian, I love Maradona, but this man is pretty handsome :D I write on my laptop, where are the hearts?
Stand by .... they are coming. Lol !
Here's the heart:
Hi Carla!!!
Real gentleman
Rest In Peace Maradona the legend
The left back was Olarticoechea and he jokes with the 86 team mates, the inside joke is that he calls that "back of the head of God"
You can feel his compassion for the game
From italy, gary you are a great person
Well said Gary
Gifted Player! We wont see another Maradona in a long long time....
Forgot to mention what he did against Belgium and Germany 🙌🙌🙌🙌 simply THE GOD of football.
Love or hate Maradona, he was a true great
I’m 52 years old, and I haven’t seen any player since Diego with the natural talent he had. Best player ever.
Diego Armando Maradona the best of the best of the best of the all times
Sheer respect to Gary Lineker. He is the only english player that shows adulation for Maradona.
till date football is alive we people will always talk and hear about these two goals scored by the God of football
The most fouled player in history = Diego.
The most fouled player in each match = Diego
The most fouled player in WC QF 86 = Diego
Yet Diego is the cheat and the English are Angels.
Maradona was the modern age robinhood. Absolutely justified whatever he did, specially after Falkland war. Maradona gave the English a tight slap across their face with the hand of god, then knocked them out with the goal of the century. Afterall a World Cup is definitely more valuable than some paltry island 🏝
Disagree, I think Pele was fouled just as much and in those times defenders could hit hard
1986: 53 fouls on Diego
1990: 50 fouls on Diego
1982: 23 fouls on Diego in a single match
He was not a futbol referee. He was a balon genius. Cheers.
Gary himself will go down as one greatest who played the game.
No he wont. Beardsley from that team was a better 'player'. To name others in a similar role, John Aldridge and Ian Rush.
Hand of good, that's the reason Peter Shelton became famous
😄 yeh he shouldn't complain.
*Hand of God...; *that's the reason WHY Peter Shilton became famous...
