6:34 my father always went to Maradona's training sessions, near home in Naples. He enjoyed hitting far away goalposts, crossbars and distant objects impossible to think of just touching them with the ball, Maradona hit them. He told me those present found it hard to believe what their eyes were looking at. I consider my father among the luckiest men in the world.
No doubt your father is among the luckiest men in the world.
If only phone cameras existed. The footage shown here is only a fraction of the things Maradona could do that were never captured
My friends from Naples who I lived with in London
They went to watch Maradona play for Napoli in his prime
They gave me a beautiful Napoli flag back in 1991 that I still have to this day
Your father is equivalent to somebody who was fortunate enough to have watched Michaelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel.

Maradona didn’t have the internet to learn these skills from others, he invented them, and boy could he also play!!
It’s hard to imagine how much greater he would have been, if he’d played in the current era when players are actually protected from being kicked to bits.

Great reference point there: he invented lots of moves. :)

It’s amazing how a fellow human can be blessed with so much dexterity and skill. His left foot had more sensitivity than an artist’s hand. His drive and enthusiasm second to none. His faults alone proved him human. RIP Diego.
I hate to say it but he was a football genius.
This is one of the most eye opening things I’ve ever read. Nobody ever considered his flaws to be a part of his human nature, in so far as many believed his shortcomings were a travesty to the sport of football and society. His genius far exceeded his sport. In the end, some of his acts, while egregious to the societal eye, should be seen as a stroke of imperfection to a talent out of this world!

Alguna duda que fue el mejor del mundo? y es solo un videíto...todo lo que hizo en su carrera como futbolista, lo hace aún más grande...genio...genio.
@Vorraboms I don't know, Messi didn't really prove it to me, at national level, he kinda looks average and at Barcelona, he's getting top quality service that can make even a half decent player look world-class.
But don't get me wrong, Messi is a solid player but I think he's overrated.
Maradona on the other hand proved it at club and national level and in many cases, lifting the entire team, the other player that I remember doing that is Roberto Baggio, another world-class player.
@Vorraboms Pele was before my time, football was also quite different back then but in the end, we can only compare to others at the time.
In any case, lets see how Messi does now he's not at Barcelona, might not look as good as a player without getting top quality service and I think that's why he didn't look good at the national level.
We'll soon find out if that pans out at a club level over the next year.
The greatest of all time, no one comes close. RIP Diego, you'll be talked about 100 years from now

PRECISELY.
Maradona had all the characteristics of football. Passion, love, fun, joy, class, speed, cunning, competitiveness, courage, grit, technique, altruism, humility, strength. The perfect player. The strongest of all time. Football made man.

@@tristanburke350 But it's different today with YT and the internet. A long time ago there was no internet. Anyone great a freestyle kept playing soccer and got better. But today if you are great at freestyle there are freestyle communities so he prob would have got involved in that and focused on that and his fitness would have dropped and no more pro soccer. Why do you think all these freestylers with the best ball skills in the world are not pro?
Every time a thought of cr7 and Messi are better comes to my head all I got to do is watch one video of maradona and the debate is over
Don't ever equate cr7 to messi. Messi is a playmaker, dribbler and goalscorer. Cr7 is just a goalscorer
Messi is the master of solo goals
Messi and Maradona are the 2 best player ever
Comparing Maradona to Messi and Ronaldo is like comparing Monet to a high-performance printer
Absolutely no comparison
I've never seen another player whose love of having something, in fact anything, to play with comes through as total pure mesmerising brilliant skill. He could be mad as a brush, but that was part of his magic. He was football from hair to toe. Most exciting player I've ever seen....

Him and Gazza were kindred spirits
Saw him at Wembley when he was a kid. England - Argentina - watched him walking half the length of the pitch doing keepy uppys at about 50 feet in the air ... never broke step, didn't even seem to look up but he must have .. then he sat and did keepy uppys in a circle ... didn't want the match to start. He was fantastic with the ball. Such an entertainer and for me the best there's ever been at football. Pity his demons got him ... but what a footballer.
He was the football, the genius, the joy, the dark part. He was all.

As an Englishman who watched Mexico 86 , still my favourite player of all time .
Yeah I remember watching him blatantly cheat and get away with it by conning the ref and then having the audacity to admit to it after the match and stating it was the "hand of god".
I despise him, he was an overweight drug addict.
@@OblivionGate Or you could, if you can get past the tin-pot attitude, be more aggravated by the incompetent attempt at a defensive clearance by Steve Hodge that put the ball in the English box; then the even more incompetently embarassing attempt at goal-keeping from a 6ft Peter Shilton that failed to do his job, failed to out jump a 5.5ft Maradona, and do what he should've done - dominate Maradona for size and catch the ball.
The utterly inept goal-keeping from Shilton is the most criminal aspect of the whole affair.
@@TheGeezer30 I suppose if I wanted to defend the fact that Primadonna cheated I could see it that way but a cheats a cheat whichever way you look at it... And he was also coked out of his head in most matches he played so not only is he a cheat but a drug addict cheat at that.
@@OblivionGate I ain't defending Maradona, and cheat he did, but the incompetent goal-keeping give him the opportunity. All Shilton had to do was dominate, with his size, and both hands, a 5.5ft midgit coke head, and failed miserably. Shilton had all the advantage, all he had to do was be best man to the ball and catch it. Whether Maradona is a cokehead cheat is irrelevent. But he was given the opportunity to stick his hand in by two moments of incompetent English defending.
@@OblivionGate Now, now little man, in the art of war you take no prisoners ;) I'm sure the British gained an empire by playing fair.

LOL@ the hype dude. Yeah Maradona is decent, but nothing special, at least not to me anyway. To be honest, I am better than he ever was and I'm not even a pro (although I could be). And let's be real, Maradona is only as good as he was because he like practices like a "a try hard", like 10 hours a day. I only need like to train 30 mins to be much better than him. @@Libzalii pele? Are you kidding me? He isn't even better than Ronaldinho and you are comparing him with Maradona? Pele played easy fútbol btw no hate but he isn't even close to Maradona sorry just my opinion
No hate to anyone, Ronaldinho is my third favourite Brazilian
@@Libzalii Pele: “Maradona is incomparable” Pele himself put an end to this comparison. Diego Maradona comes from the golden age of world football, defenders literally broke the legs and cards were very rare (which is why Maradona from 23 year old onwards played the rest of his career with -30% mobility of the ankle of his favorite foot) not to mention the stone balls and never perfectly round and the rough fields never perfectly flat, he showed the world the impossible. Modern football from the 1980s to this day is x2 faster than the football that Pele played (in the Brazilian championship of the 1960s, among other things.)
Please, don't compare El Diez to anyone, as Pele says. Because Diego is Diego, inhuman genius, all the rest are good players.
@@Libzalii I’m sorry to disappoint you, but Pele meant the comparison with him, and with any other player. He clearly stated that they cannot compare Diego to him or anyone else because Diego is incomparable. However I respect your thinking, but I advise you to study the past of a discipline you love. Let them tell you, watch entire matches from the past yourself, do something friend, for respect and love of this sport. Maradona after winning the 1986 World Cup alone, for the first time in the history of Napoli he won 2 league titles, an european cup, cups and super cups! From 1986 to 1990. Get better informed! And they stole him the 1990 World Cup final and the 1994 World Cup too !!! Also find out about the cards of that era and find out for yourself why Diego Maradona is considered the most beaten-up footballer in history. There was no referee protection against the best defenders all time! Maradona's technique and motor intelligence was unparalleled, certain plays have never been replicated by anyone in history. Some goals still remain unexplained, they go against the laws of physics. And then tell me which other player in history, after receiving a violent foul, stood up as if nothing had happened with the ball attached to his foot or invented something from the ground. None, only one, Diego Armando Maradona.
The connection and relationship this man had with a ball just blows my mind.
I agree.
When he was touching a ball the feeling I have observing him is that he was clearly transcending the commonly perceived 3d reality and moving (himself and the ball) into a different one.
Untouched by anything else, while interacting with a ball (or any shperical oject may I say) this man was simply closer to the Absolute.
Connection is the right word. It's very peculiar to watch, almost like an extension of his body.
@@igg3937 Exactly, there are so many freestylers or Ronaldos and Ronaldinhos with really great ball handling skills but only Maradona makes it look like the ball belongs to his body, like a planet circling around the sun. Crazy to watch.

What a statement
Not only did Maradona's ability make him the greatest player ever but he played the game like a man. He took the hits & kept on going & it was far more physical back then. Compare that to the likes of Neymar who fall at the touch of a feather. What makes his skills all that more special was that there was no internet, no dvd's, etc where he could easily access numerous copies of other performances & simply copy them. He had the natural talent & the work ethic to go create & perfect the skills all by his self.
Yes, I agree, much tougher but to fair Neymar's finesse on the ball is otherworldly.A pure natural. Probably better than Maradona is some respects. But I watched Maradona as a kid and young adult, exciting times.
Touch of feather?! You want to kill Neymar?! 😵What have he done to die like that! Feather... 🥴No, just by mentioning "feather" he will hit the ground and roll around in total sweet agony ... And refs are suckers for that 1. A penalty here a freekick there... 😘

The best that ever lived - a god given talent - his feet and the ball were one - he could do anything and everything RIP Diego .
No doubt in my mind, the greatest footballer ever! Absolutely mesmerising player
He is clearly better than messi
6:35 this alone shows he is the most multi dimensional player in the history of football, an absolute wizard.
players made videos like this and they were edited in for ads like Ronaldinho etc. This man actually did it for real lmao.
Magic! This guy is unbelievable... The one and only, Diego Armando Maradona 🇦🇷
Best player in the world...ever
🐐
Bell video Diego Vive e guarda da lassù il Napoli e l'Argentina Campione. DIEGO DIEGO DIEGO
Even football freestylers can’t do anything like that he was a genius
Definitely not true, now you taking it too far.
Soufiane Bencok, Jack Downer, Kristoffer Licht, Jeand Doest etc have been doing way more insane Skills than anything ever done in professional football.
@@bobopatchnosuke229 lol ok because they probably weren’t even born when Maradona was in his prime
@@dazzaMusic Not an excuse, in terms of raw skills. It's not even close. They literally are forced to do it for a living. No one in professional football is close except maybe R10.
@@bobopatchnosuke229 there are still many things the freestylers can’t do.
From amost standing still and juggling that tennis ball high with just back heels.. to the high bounce ups in a radius of just a few meters.. to the reverse flick ups from behind and around the body???
It’s very different when you do things on the fly opposed to devoting your life to practicing freestyle
@@djfunkychicken You are completely tackling the wrong point because he said that he is more skillful than actual freestylers and I said that is not true, whether or not he does it on the fly is irrelevant, my point was to refute the claim that he is more skillful. The dude said "even football freestylers can't do anything like that".
If he was 20 today...many would pay 1bln $ to have him in their team
if some middle or low tier club in the PL offers the deal, he will join and take PL and UCL champions in following years. he is out of the world good.
Maradona was also the best passer ever. He could make incredible touch, long, short passes and place it at his teammates feet. Maradona might have been the best ever at everything in futbol/soccer
Skills outside of matches shows that he is GOAT fotboll player!
I'm English and old enough to remember the Hand of God. I Still think Maradona is the best there ever was or will be. Better than Pele, Messi, or Ronaldo. Maradona was an absolue legend.
A cheat he was
@@Kill--alllll---IDF Go and watch the goal. And take note of the complete incompetence of the English player, Steve Hodge, that puts the ball in the box; and then marvel at the complete failure of a 6ft goal keeper, Peter Shilton, to out jump a 5.5ft Maradona, dominate him for size and catch the ball.
If the Goal keeper had done his job, then this whole affair would never have happended. But it did contrive to happen, and was the result of Incompetent goal-keeping.
@@TheGeezer30 goal keeper was slow to react on the hand ball because keeper knew he was getting their first before maradona but keeper was bamboozled because his hand came in the way instead of the head, ur English I presume so why are u defining maradona????
@@Kill--alllll---IDF Aye, I'm English, and a proper patriot, not a tin-pot cheer-leader.
My dear chap, I'm not defending Maradona. I'm pointing out that the firstly the defensive clearence was very bad, secondly that the job of the Goal-keeper to dominate the ball and use both hands to catch it was a failure in the extreme. Shilton's slovenly effort gave Maradona the opportunity, and Maradona took it. And I will not indulge in baseless, child-minded hate against Maradona because he took an opportunity given to him by Two moments of incompetent English defending.
Shilton, being 6ft, and allowed to dominate his box using his hands, was incompetent in allowing any notion of being bamboozled. Shilton should've out jumped Maradona, used his bigger size to dominate him, and used both hands. Instead of doing the basics he made a pathetis effort of a jump trying to punch the ball. But he didn't do his job, he failed, in that moment, to be the best man to ball, and he had all the advantages against Maradona to do so, this must be recognised, and this recongnition sits totally outside of whether Maradona is a cheat or not. If Shilton done his done his job properly, Maradona would never have got his hand to it.
@@Kill--alllll---IDF A Bolton lad, eh! I'm a southener, Buckinghamshire.
Barnes was under-used, and to England's serious detriment. It was a failure of England coaching not using Barnes properly.
I think Maradona was one of the Greatest, Top Three, no question. The only question is which Two other players go in the Top Three.?
Considering the state of the pitches he played on, and the brutal defending he was up against, and the way he carried Argentina and Napoli to greatness. He has the mustard.
All the best, pal.
Maradona and Ronaldinho, two players I've seen taking a piss out of a football!🤒👍
With all respect.to the wizard ronaldinho....dont even compare...with DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA D10S🇦🇷.
I can‘t get enough of this video. Maradona…….and than the rest of the bunch😊
From the bustling byways near Buenos Aires, Diego emerged, a beacon of hope and tenacity. In the absence of a ball, he danced on the streets with tin cans, weaving magic with his feet. Those very streets, echoing with the rattle of cans, became his first audience, bearing witness to a raw talent that would soon captivate the world. Every kick, every trick was a testament to his indomitable spirit, proving that passion and perseverance can turn even the harshest challenges into a canvas for greatness. From these humble beginnings, Diego rose, not just as a football star, but as a symbol of resilience and dreams undeterred by circumstance. A luminary who showed the world that brilliance can be forged in adversity, and legends can be born from the most unexpected places. RIP Diego
Wow, how come you only got two "thumbs up"?? You wrote down the best comment 'Maradona explained' ever!!Tears in my eyes.. . I thank you for that.
