Maradona is miles ahead, Pelé had to lie about how many goals he scored against farmers to make it seem like he was even a top goal scorer. He did not prove himself in Europe like Diego did. @@SNIPER-em9wx I think Maradona was better than Pele, but Alex is correct the Brazillian league(and to some extent the Argentinian league too) in the 50's and 60's and even in the 70's was very good, probably a similar level to the best European leagues. (I would say then South AMerican teams had better attacks,and Europan teams were a little more organised, but it was closer than that on both metrics)
The shift towards Europe happened towards the end of the 70's, mainly because more money came into football in Europe, which led to the best players moving at some point, now, it is usually by the time they are 21-22.
I do think Maradona was better than Pele though. Pele was a football machine without doubt, but I would rather have Maradona if I had to pick between the 2 because Maradona could play in inferior sides and make them compete with the best sides. IMO Maradona is the greatest I have seen.I have not seen enough of Pele, simply because there is not enough footage of Pele, and even the likes of Garrincha whom I prefer (Pele was probably better, but modern flair football goes at least back to Garrincha he was the Ronaldinho of his day)
@Alex Zoar As for teaching skills, hmm, yeh kind of but that would be ignoring the likes of players like Cruyff, Best and others who were early skill players in europe, Best played at the same time as Pele so to say he got that from Brazil, is a lie, because he is from Northern Ireland, he may have been influenced a bit, but there was not huge coverage back then, its not like a player could study hours and hours of film on a player, especially as a child , Best and likely Cruyff too developed most of their flair themselves.
Brazil (and to a lesser extent Argentina and other South Am nations) have influenced European football greatly, but so is true of the influence the other way,Italians have influenced the world with their defensive tactics, and the Dutch really created modern football with "Total Football" in the 70's/80's, and England invented the modern game, and most of the big clubs, across the world have an English man involved in their creation at some point in their past. So all this is true, and clearly Brazil is one of the huge football nations, but so is Argentina, France, Italy Holland, England, Spain Portugal, Uruguay, and a few others who are not as big but still left some mark on the game
Maradona is n1,all the respect towards to all the great players but "Pibe de oro" is ahead of everybody else,just his charisma puts him very above all guys.About skills,vision and passing we are not gonna talk about.

The absolute greatest of all time, no one is even in the same leauge as him. A one off with a God given talent the likes of which the world will never see again. His control of a football was incredible, absolutely mesmerising, his balance was outstanding and the way he used to go past players was like they weren't even there. He had literally everything, I'm just glad I was alive to see him in his prime, RIP Diego, gone but never ever forgotten

Ball control is one thing but in a game of football.. NEVER EVER have I seen a player terrorize his opponents like R9 did.

I remember seeing an interview with Diego Maradona in black and white, possibly in his own native country as the interview has English subtitles. When the interviewer asked him about Pele , Diego was not so impressed, so the interviewer asked him who he thought was his favourite player of all time, Diego replied, Best, George Best. He got my respect straight away. Thought the 1986 World Cup was almost modelled around Maradona , great player.

Unfortunately I didn't see Eusébio nor croyft . But I'm a very lucky man to have had the pleasure to watch the last seasons of Diego Maradona .
After Diego , Romário was the best player I've seen live .
But Maradona was so ahead of everyone else . Not just his skills .. we go to Copacabana and we see hundreds of "Maradonas" on the beach , it was the games he had . OMG , games that will forever be in the books of football , many other world star players they get scared in the decision moments . Not Diego Maradona .

I've lived to an age where I have seen Pelé, Eusebio, Gerd Müller, Beckenbauer, George Best, Cruyff, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zico, Socrates, Messi, Kevin De Bruyne and others I forget, but there's one that will always be head and shoulders above the rest and that's Diego Armando Maradona. Maybe he wasn't the best footballer, but still he was because he was the best at manipulating a ball, or anything that came across one of his feet. Be it an empty can, a rolled-up pair of socks or a bottle of water, the man treated it as something he could get a hold of, and he did and lucky for us, he demonstrated his skill, over and over again, on the football field. As in "Highlander", there can be only one. And that one was, and forever will be, Maradona. End of line. Rest in peace, amigo.
